Progress!

So the whole "write on tumblr more often"- thing is not going too well, partly because of the added workload, and partly because I'm just lazy :P

Work with the play is getting along pretty well, seeing as we had our first complete runthrough last saturday, and our dance teacher (who is doing the coreography for Carmen & co. and is overall very much involved in the process) said it went better than imagined. Personally I had a hard time of remembering what scene came after the one currently going on on stage, and had to consult the script several times in order to remeber when I'd be up next, not to mention that none of us actually had our real costumes or props on hand, or that the scenography is going to be built during this week. I think it went well though, and all of us left the theatre for a well deserved four days off. When we get back on friday most of the scenography is supposed to be ready, and hopefully we'll get at least some of the costumes next tuesday. Even though we've got a whole month 'till the premiere I feel like there's a thousand things we still have to take into account, but on the other hand, those of the group that have been in theatre before this say we're on a pretty good schedule, and that progress is going well. Eh, I suppose I'll just have to trust them.

I'll try to post more often as thing progress, but I can't promise anything. Here's to continued success!

“Aroace people aren’t straight but they still have straight privilege!”

Not being able to talk openly about my orientation without fear of ridicule isn’t “straight privilege”.

Not being able to mention my orientation without worry that it will impact my reputation as a professional or as a student is not  “straight privilege”.

Not being able to talk about my orientation in front of most of my family without fear of them rejecting me isn’t “straight privilege”.

Not seeing any representation of people like me in the media isn’t “straight privilege”.

Not having any education that people like me exist isn’t “straight privilege”.

People telling you that you’re making your orientation up to be special or different isn’t “straight privilege”.

People being uncomfortable with you mentioning your orientation and telling you that no-one needs to know isn’t “straight privilege”.

Being told that your orientation isn’t real isn’t “straight privilege”.

Being told that your orientation is probably a symptom of some medical condition isn’t “straight privilege”.

People assuming things about your life and history based on your orientation isn’t “straight privilege”.

Your orientation being treated as a political stance or a lifestyle choice is not “straight privilege”.

No, aroace people are not systematically oppressed for our orientation. As far as the system cares we do not exist. Not existing, as far as most of society cares, is not “straight privilege”.

The only time I have  “straight privilege” is when I don’t talk about my orientation. At all. The only time I have “straight privilege” is when I let people assume I am straight.

And frankly, having to be silent about my orientation to be respected by the straight majority, isn’t a privilege.

Starting... please hold

Wow, this is difficult. I just started this account in order to follow a couple of people on Tumblr, but then I have to follow a bunch more just to get an account! Well, let's see how long I'll be bothered to continue with this.

staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront. I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.
