A/N: Uhm, let’s not talk about this…
Evan was in love.
For the first time in his life he was truly, head over heels for someone. Even he himself couldn’t believe it. His friends all noticed the change in demeanour. The excessive happiness that he seemed to radiate at all time. They couldn’t find it in themselves to be anything but happy for him.
He’d had his fair share of relationships, but of course they didn’t last. Whether it was off on travels, untrustworthiness or a bad connection. They didn’t last. But with you, he knew you were the one. From the way you looked up at him, the way you smiled when he held your hand. You never judged him, dealt with his family issues as well as his own recklessness.
You were perfect, in every way. And Buck knew it. It’s why when he found out you were think about breaking up with him that he found himself spiralling.
He’d been using your phone to text Bobby, to tell him he wasn’t coming in the next day. You’d both planned to have a beach day, since the both of you had been busy lately. After texting Bobby, a text from your friend has caught his eye.
Just break up with him!
Evan could feel his heart racing, what the hell?
So he pressed on the conversation and found his worst nightmare. You’d been talking to her about how you found yourself with less time alone, almost always being dragged out to a restaurant or some other place by Buck. You felt smothered, but didn’t have the heart to tell him. If you’d told him he was being clingy he would’ve tried to dial it back. But speaking about him behind his back? To your bitch of a friend?
It wasn’t right of you. And it wasn’t right of her to encourage these thoughts. She’d met Evan before, multiple times. She always talked about how perfect the two of you were for each other. And here she was, trying to get you to leave him, your soulmate.
So he texted her, on your behalf.
I’m not breaking up with him, don’t text me. I don’t want to see you anymore.
Then he blocked her number.
“Evan?” His head rose from the pillow, looking down at you as you walked into the apartment. “Yeah babe? Everything okay?” He heard you jogging up the stairs, “Maya blocked me, I think. I tried to talk to her on Insta and she told me to screw myself. I don’t know what I did wrong.” Bucks heart hurt at the sight of you crying.
“Oh baby, you didn’t do anything. You shouldn’t be thinking about a friend who can be so rude with no explanation. C’mere.” He held his arms out for you as you settled into his arms, tears dampening his shirt. “I’ve got you, you’re okay.” He cradled your head against his chest. “I— I just don’t know what I did.”
“Shh, don’t waste your energy on her. Okay?” Your head lifted, “Okay…” He could sense your uncertainty, you’d been friends with Maya for a while, almost a year. He knew it’d be hard for you to get over it, but it was for the best. Evan knew what was best for you.
Your boyfriend was acting strangely, to say the least.
He’d been much more involved with your friends now. Always asking after them, what you guys were doing, whether or not Maya came back in touch. It felt as if you couldn’t breathe in their presence without a million texts from him.
Evan ❤️
Where are you right now?
Who’s with you?
When are you coming home?
Home. He always assumed you were coming to his place. As if you were already living together when you’d only been together for five months. Even when you brought it up to him, he’d brush his actions off.
“I mean we’re practically living together already no? What’s the point in you having your things somewhere else when you can have it here. Saves you a trip in the morning baby.” Evan murmured into your neck as you stood in the bathroom. “I… I have my own place Evan. I like having my own place. It’s not just my things that are there. It’s my place.” His arms briefly tightened around you at the sound of your protest.
“I know, but don’t you want to live with me? Be with me?” Buck retracted his face from your neck, his arms circling around your neck as your hands held on to his arms. “I do! I do want to be with you. I am with you baby.” His frown disappeared in a second, replaced with an unsettling smile. “That’s what I thought.” He kissed your cheek before walking out the door.
You stared into the mirror. What the hell does that mean? That’s what I thought? You shook your head in an attempt to collect your thoughts. Did you want to be in this relationship? Where you felt like you were being babysat? As if Buck was your parent, always asking where you were and who with. As if you couldn’t handle yourself, needing supervision.
It took you another month to realise this isn’t what you wanted in a relationship. You wanted to be equals, to rely on eachother and trust each other. The ability to go out and not give your exact location every ten minutes. To not feel as if you have an overwhelming pressure behind you, always looming. Like a shadow.
But it was a month too long. You’d given Evan even more access into your life. He’d sweet talked you into sharing your live location with you. Even your bank account was accessible to him, being able to overlook your transactions. He had keys to your apartment and even his face ID on your phone (not that you knew he had access to your phone).
You’d confided in your best friend. And she’d encouraged you the whole time. She herself hadn’t noticed Evan’s overbearing behaviour, he always handled himself properly in public. Not a single person would suspect him of being so controlling. He was to sweet for that. And even if they noticed his clinginess, they viewed it as a sweet trait.
He loves you so much he can’t breathe without you. Half of his personality had become you. His wallpaper was a photo of the two of you, his password was now your birthday. His pantry and fridge were filled with your favourite foods, even when you weren’t staying over.
It was all you. Evan finally had someone to love, to spoil and to hold with all his might. He’d be damned if someone tried to take you from him. So when he used your phone to call an Uber since you’d both walked to the restaurant, imagine his surprise and anger in finding another friend of yours against him.
Y/n: I think I’ll tell him tonight, at his place. Somewhere he feels comfortable and won’t be embarrassed.
Rebekah: Good idea, I hope he takes it well. I don’t think he means to cling in all honesty. Might just be a subconscious decision since he hasn’t had many long term relationships. Hopefully he finds someone for him.
Y/n: I know, me too. I just feel so bad, he’s had like two or three girlfriends before me and none of them worked out :(
Rebekah: I know babe, but don’t stay with him out of pity. That’s even worse for him.
Y/n: It’s not pity, I’m not still with him out of pity. I really do love him, but I can’t help feeling as if I have no space. He’s always asking for where I am, and with whom. It’s overbearing. And he seemingly can’t handle me being independent, as if I need him to do everything for me. I’m not a child.
Rebekah: You aren’t, no where near it. I get that you love him, but this isn’t healthy. You both deserve better. Some girls love a guy who cares so much. Wishing you all the best, I have a wine bottle waiting for us x
Y/n: Maybe I can wait to do it another night? I’m having a good time, reminds me why I love him :(
Rebekah: No!! If you keep going you’ll never get away.
Y/n: Pleaseeee??
Rebekah: Breakup sex isn’t a horrible idea. Might soften the blow lmao 🤣
Y/n: That’s not what I meant! I’m gonna go, and am NOT leaving to have sex.
Rebekah: Whatever you say, happy break up day xx 💋
Happy break up day? What a bitch.
If there was one aspect of your relationship that never suffered, it was in the bedroom. And Evan couldn’t help but notice when he was closing your open apps, your cycle tracking app. His thumb hovered over it, he looked around to make sure you weren’t returning from the bathroom. Only a few words stuck out for Evan.
High chance of getting pregnant.
You soaked in the ride back to Evans place. One more night with him, that’s all you were giving him. The idea of breaking up with sounded alright over text, but actually facing it? Your hands were sweating, heart racing. You didn’t want to let go, but you knew you had to.
Now or never.
Your eyes darted around Evans apartment, soaking it all up for your last time, when his hands came around your waist as he kissed your neck. “A bit eager aren’t we?” You joked as his hold tightened, “Mhm.” He grabbed you by the hips before turning you to face him, “You look amazing, and you smell so good.” You couldn’t help but blush at the compliments, Evan always knew how to make a girl blush.
“I do?” His hands cradled your face, kissing you on the forehead, “You do baby.” Evan’s hands travelled down to your butt, “Up.” He only needed one word, and so did you. He carried you up the stairs, then softly laying you down on the bed.
Evan was swift in taking your dress off, then his own outfit. “I love you.” He spoke as he thrust into you, your hands held on tightly to his hair, “Oh god Evan!” He couldn’t contain his smirk, he loved you like this. An absolute mess, all for him.
“Say it back.” His fingers dug into your hips.
“Ow! What?” Your brain was foggy, Evans words went in and out your ears.
“Say. It. Back.” His voice held no sweetness, it was purely demanding. His pace was brutal, and again it felt as if you couldn’t breathe. The pleasure was overwhelming, you felt so good. “I…” Your heart was racing again, it felt wrong to tell him you loved him.
His teeth bit down on your collarbone, “I love you!”
You shouldn’t have said it back. It was all that you could think about as his demeanour changed again, a lovesick grin on his face as he kissed you passionately. His hands felt heavy on your skin, burning into you. All you could feel was Evan. Your head was hazy as he carried you, bridal style. The water was warm, and so was he.
Evan slid in behind you in the bath, his arms were strong around you. He took his time in cleaning you off, savouring the moment. “You hungry?” He sounded so casual, as if he hadn’t literally bruised you moments before. “A little.” Your voice was quiet for some reason, you didn’t know why. “We’ll have anything you want.”
That night you spent with him was one of the weirdest of your life. You felt safe with him, more so than you felt with anyone else. But you couldn’t shake the memories of prior times. Him literally crashing a birthday party to make sure you were where you said you were. Evan dragging you back into bed when you needed to work. Him telling you to not reach for the top shelf, saying it was ‘too much for you’. Or him cutting up your food.
Everytime he looked at you, you felt conflicted.
Was this what love was? Uncertainty? Through the night you found yourself tired. Your brain was constantly filing through a million thoughts, about Evan, about yourself and your life. You loved him, but would it be wrong to stay with someone who seemingly infiltrated every aspect of your life? You didn’t know, all you knew was that the pizza was amazing and he was snuggly.
So you stayed the night. You’d fallen asleep in his arms halfway through ‘Me Before You’. You’d spent majority of the movie arguing over whether she should’ve stayed with him or left. And whether he should’ve lived to be with her. “It’s not right! He’s miserable! She should be understanding of him wanting to leave! Which she is in the end.” Evan shook his head as he tossed his slice into the box. “You’re so wrong.” You gasped.
“He should stayed for her. He knew she loved him and it was selfish of him to leave.”
“He was miserable Evan!”
“Would you leave me if I lost my ability to walk?”
Well that sentence shut you up quickly. “I—, I wouldn’t. I’d stay with you. But the movie is different, she meets him afterwards. He’s already miserable, and she makes it better, yes. But he knows he can’t give her the life she deserves. So he’s selfless in letting her go. And also, if you wanted to go, I’d support you. I’d be sad, yes, but you’re not happy. And I’d want you to be happy.”
“I’d never tell you to leave me. You’re too good to let go. Having you by my side is all I need.” You remained staring at the screen, unable to move. “Thank you.” Evan raised his eyebrows at your dismissal of his words.
“I love you Y/n.”
You turned to him with a small smile, “Love you too.” And within ten minutes, you were sleeping in his arms. Evan glanced down at you with a smile before pulling out his phone. He typed out the date of yesterday. It seemed like a date he’d need to remember. And it was lucky, in about nine months, he’d be holding a mini you in his arms.
You woke up with Evans arm draped over you, locking you in place. You slipped out slowly, grabbing a shirt and leggings of yours. You’d failed in breaking up with him, you knew you had. Last night had sucked you right back in to the storm that was Evan Buckley.
He looked at peace when he slept. Content. Maybe you could have a talk with him about boundaries. You weren’t ready to let go of him yet. And it was exactly what he was counting on, he’d wormed his way into your life. To the point where you weren’t sure what life was like without him.
Evan kept his eyes closed as you left. Letting you think you’d gotten away without him knowing. Last night was amazing in his opinion, and when you didn’t respond through out the day he surprisingly kept his cool. He had a good feeling about the night, and if he was lucky, you’d come crawling back either way.
The day had been quiet, you ran some errands, completed your laundry. And with only one text for Evan compared to the usual twenty.
Have a good day ❤️
You found yourself smiling at the text. Simple and sweet. Maybe he’d read your mind and was now reeling back? God you hoped he was adjusting his behaviour. And through the rest of the week, he didn’t show up. He didn’t randomly come to pick you up from work, or bombard you with calls and texts when you went out for drinks. You’d become so accustomed to telling him your location that he didn’t have to ask.
You called every day, barely over an hour. Just debriefing eachother about your days and gossiping. It felt as if you were both improving in your relationship. You were lowering your guard, and he was working his way in. He wasn’t being too pushy, and you weren’t being protective.
And it was a new chapter in your eyes. Since he’d stayed that way. You found yourself even happier than usual. Going out with him more willingly, especially to dinners with the 118. In two months, they saw more of Bucks girlfriend then they had in the previous 7-8 months.
And whilst you may not have noticed any changes of your own physically, Evan sure did. He felt them, your chest was heavier, and a slight bump was developing. You’d recently been an avid sushi lover when it came to eating out, and you’d been having cravings.
You’d confided in Evan about missing your period, and whilst he acted concerned, it was probably the best news he’d ever gotten. He’d come home the next day after his shift with about six different home pregnancy tests. And you’d been willing to take them.
His world stopped when each one came out positive. But first he had to gauge your reaction, the relief was unmatched when you turned to him with a smile. “We’re having a kid.” You whispered as he nodded, “A mini you, or me.” Tears fell down your face as you squealed before jumping onto him. He laughed as you buried your face into his shoulder before facing him, “You’re gonna be a daddy.” And he couldn’t help but cry himself.
You were going to be a family.
Evan was outstanding when it came to taking care of you. Anything you needed was in front of you within the hour. You’re tired? Here’s a pillow, blanket and soothing sounds to help you sleep. You’re hungry? Here’s every craving that he’s logged of yours, with delivery on the way. You’re sore? He’s got oil in his hands and eager look on his face, to which you tease him.
“Missed me that much huh?”
“You have no idea.” He whispered before kissing you.
It was a Friday dinner at Bobby and Athena’s when you announced the pregnancy to them. To which you were met with blank stares which eventually erupted into cheers and hugs.
“Oh god, Bucks having a kid before me.” Chimney shuddered as Evan slapped his bicep, “Evans going to be an amazing father.” You smiled as he grinned, “Why thank you Mrs Buckley.” He kissed you before you could react, is marriage around the corner for you?
“Well actually…” Maddie spoke out as you all turned, “Oh my god, are we pregnant at the same time?” Her small nod caused chaos to erupt amongst the home, “Two new additions to the family!” Bobby cheered. Chimneys mind was close to exploding as he hugged her.
“I’m so happy they all know.” You spoke happily as Evan sighed, “I can’t believe she’s pregnant.” You kissed his cheek before holding his hands, “Do we need to have the butterflies and bees talk?” He rolled his eyes as you pretended to pout, and he poked your cheek.
“Can’t believe we’re going to be a family. The three of us, forever.” Evan kissed the top of your head as Athena and Bobby smiled, “They’re going to be great parents.” Bobby nodded along, “Can’t believe Buck’s going to be a father. I remember his first day, and now he has a whole family.” He couldn’t help the slight tears in his eyes.
As Evan stood in the middle of the room he felt happier than ever. He had a family he loved and a family member on the way. He knew he finally had everything the could’ve ever wanted. Especially with the girl he loved in his arms, and he’d never let go.

HIS POWER / TIM BRADFORD

PAIRINGS: Dark!Tim Bradford x Fem!Reader
SUMMARY: After providing a statement to an officer about a robbery, he seems to be everywhere. Even after you start avoiding him.
WARNINGS: Obsession, stalking, abuse of power, breaking and entering, suggestive content
WORDCOUNT: 3.3K Words
A/N: Just started watching the rookie and I’m in love!!🥰
Gif not mine, credits to the owner!
It’d been a normal day at first.
You wanted to run errands through your Monday since you’d been working pretty hard through the last week. But being higher up in the company meant you were able to take days off to work from home when wanted.
You’d been in the confectionary isle since you were throwing a watch party of Harry Potter with all of your friends. As silly as it seemed, you were in the mood for a night of childhood friends and fun.
You had finished up shopping, and as you were making your way up to the register when you heard it.
“Get on the ground, now!”
It was as if time has frozen as you noticed everyone drop to the floor. Luckily your body followed suit and dropped down as well. But you were a minute too late as one of the men noticed you. “Didn’t I say to get down bitch?”
The word sounded foreign in your ears, to the point where you didn’t even realise he was talking to you, until he came over to you.
He pulled you up by your hair as he waved the gun around, “You ain’t talking now huh?” His grip on your hair tightened as you clenched your eyes shut. When you opened them you noticed someone reaching for their phone. You may as well try to buy her time.
You looked over at her as she mouthed, “911.” You acknowledged her by closing your eyes before talking, “What do you want me to say?” You could hear him chuckle, “Now you’re chatty.”
You shuffled until you were able to turn around to face him, taking his attention away from the woman calling the police. “Please, just take the money and go.” One of the other men came back from behind, seeming to have a mass of purses, most likely from the employees.
“I just want to talk to you baby.” Whether it was the nickname or his demeanour, you sure as hell didn’t want to talk to him anymore. So you took a risk.
Kicking him in the crotch.
You could hear him groan before falling to the floor, his gun slipping out of his hands as you grabbed it. You quickly slid it to the woman on the phone with the police before kicking him in the stomach. “You b—,” before he could continue you kicked him in the face.
You remembered there were only two others that had entered the store. One in the back and the other across the store. So you took the time to tie the man up using someone’s scarf, then stuffing his mouth with plastic bags. You had two other shoppers guard him as you took the gun back.
There were four men in your view, you quickly waved them over before making a plan.
“She’s having her baby! Someone help!”
Footsteps echoed through the place as the other man ran to the woman shouting, Sierra, “Who is it?” This man was seemingly calmer than the other you’d dealt with, “Here!” And as he turned you bashed his face with the end of your gun, and as he fell one of the shoppers took his gun. “Good job Jack, two down and one to go.”
“Bad idea, not taking me out first.” The last robber left standing had his firearm to Sierras head, with an arm around her neck. You and Jack immediately raised your guns in his directions, “Go ahead, shoot. Wonder what this pretty girls head’ll look like across the floor. Got nothing left to loose.”
Your saving grace came not only in the sirens outside.
“Put your guns down, slowly.” You and Jack hesitated, which proved to be a mistake as he aimed towards one of the other hostages, aiming and shooting at her leg. As she screamed out you folded, “Okay! Just don’t hurt anyone else.” Jack followed your lead as you put your guns down. The second you did he pushed her to the side, coming for you.
“You ruined my plan. For what? To be a hero?” His breath was heavy against your cheek, spite filled and hot. You shook your head immediately. “Well because of that, you can help me get out of here.”
He had you pick up the guns and stuff them into his duffel bag before leading you to the back at gun point. “Might just have some fun with you while we’re here.” He laughed as he opened the door.
“Hope you’re ready for some fun in prison.” As the two of you exited the store you were met with four cops, the one speaking standing in front of you. As he was momentarily distracted by being caught you turned to push him to the floor before running into the cops arms.
His partner rushed forwards to cuff him whilst reciting his rights. You clung onto the man as he held you, “You’re okay, I’ve got you.” You buried your face into his chest, taking a second to breathe before stepping back.
You read his badge, Bradford.
“Thank you, Officer Bradford.” Your smile was small, but more than enough for him. “Call me Tim.” His partner, which you learned was Lucy, eyed him up. It wasn’t everyday the grumpiest guy she knew allowed his first name to be used by a stranger.
“Let’s get you down to the station huh?” You nodded as he directed you to the back of his car. Lucy rose an eyebrow, “Couldn’t we have taken her statement here?” Tim aimed a pointed look her way, which screamed ‘shut up’. “She was actively involved, taken hostage and helped to disable every robber. Her account is more serious than the others and she might need to get checked up on. It’ll be a long statement so we’ll interview her at the station. Anything else boot?”
Lucy shook her head, “Good, now get in.”
You’d been waiting for someone to enter the room, luckily it was Tim. “I’m going to be taking your statement okay? I need you to detail everything that happened since the start of your day. Don’t leaving anything out.” You nodded along as he sat down, offering you a smile.
“Let’s begin.” You didn’t leave anything out as he asked you not to. Tim was nodding along, jotting down key bits of information as you spoke. It felt like time had passed by quickly talking to him, even if you were doing most of the talking. It’d been over an hour already.
“Alright, hang tight in here. You’ll be home in no time, probably best to take some time to yourself to recuperate. No friends.” He stood up, tucking his notepad and pen away before offering you a nice smile as you returned it. “Thank you, for not being rude and actually listening.” Tim stopped in the doorway, turning back around to you. He raised his eyebrow, waiting for more. “Why would I be rude?”
“Just, lately I’ve been seeing about a million horror story cop interactions. And I was scared to be interviewed. But you were really nice, so thanks. If there’s anything I can do, or tell you then let me know.” Before he could respond someone walked past and asked if he’d gotten your information.
“She’s free to go if you have.” You felt a weight lift off of your chest, as much as you liked being across from the gorgeous cop Tim was, you wanted nothing more than to sleep. He nodded as she left, turning his attention back to you. “Well, you’ve done more than enough regarding information. As for something you can do,” You straightened up in your chair.
“You could buy me a drink tomorrow.”
The bar was packed, but apparently Tim was a regular to the point where he had a seat waiting for him. Being the kind person he was, he let you sit on the seat. But the place was crowded so he ended practically between your legs. “So what’re you having Officer?” Tim scoffed at the title, “I’ll have what ever you’re having.” You giggled, “You want a martini?” He cringed at the words.
“Maybe I won’t have what you’re having.” You waved down the bartender, before ordering for the both of you. Whilst ordering you could feel his eyes on you, staring intently, “Is there something on my face?” He shook his head, “You’re just so gorgeous.”
You could feel the heat rush to your cheeks, “Don’t.” He swiped away the hair that fell in front of your face, “Why not, you are. I always tell the truth.” Your drinks were slid over as you both grabbed your respective drinks. Taking a sip, he stared at you as he drank his beer.
The night progressed quickly, the two of you getting lost in easily flowing conversation. “I’m gonna head to the bathroom.” You held your thumbs up to him as he walked away, weaving through the sea of people.
Taking a sip of your fourth drink, you noticed that he’d left behind his phone on the counter. You didn’t mean to pry, but your hand had a mind of its own as it swooped his phone up. You wish you hadn’t. His wallpaper was somehow a photo of you and you’d only known him for two days.
If there was one thing you didn’t think you were, it was stupid.
You swiftly swung your purse over your shoulder before making your way out of the bar and outside. It was then that you realised the fact that Tim had picked you up. “There you are.” His voice was quieter than before, now outside and not interrupted by others.
“It was getting stuffy in there, needed to breathe. I’m feeling pretty tired, you mind if we call it a night?” He shook his head, “Not at all, I’ll drop you off.” You smiled before making your way to his car.
“Doesn’t someone need to pay?” You were praying he’d take the bait and leave you to flag down a cab or call an uber. “I’ve got good credit here, we’ll be fine.”
You just needed to get home. That was all. Once you were home you could avoid him and not see him ever again. Just get home Y/n.
The ride home was filled mostly with Tim talking at you and your short replies. You didn’t want to seem suspicious but you were too scared to have a proper conversation with him. All you could see was the wallpaper burned into your mind.
As he pulled up to your apartment you felt a tiny spark of relief, you’d made it home. “You okay?” His hand rested on your thigh, “Yeah I’m alright, just tired.” You pressed your lips into a tight line, you hadn’t looked at him yet.
You wished you hadn’t, he looked pissed.
His hand tightened, “You’re lying. Did you meet someone else at the bar?” Your face scrunched up in confusion, “What? No! You were gone for minutes. How the hell am I striking up a conversation with someone and liking them in that time? I need to go.” You were met with a locked door.
You turned back to him with an awkward smile, you wrapped your hand around his in an attempt to calm him down. “Tim, I promise. Nothing happened. Please let me go inside, you can walk me to the door. I want you to.” Your lie seemed to take, as he retracted his hand to open the door. You grounded yourself by clutching onto your purse, leaving crescent indents in the leather.
His hand came around your waist, holding on tightly as you made your way into the apartment building. You quickly pressed for the third floor, not your own. “Goodnight Tim, I had a good time.” You turned to him, pressing a kiss to his cheek before running into the elevator. As the doors closed you could see him, momentarily stunned at the kiss.
You exhaled the second the doors closed. If you were lucky, you wouldn’t be seeing him after this. You’d survived the night, as well as him.
The next few days had been normal, thankfully. You’d been paranoid to a fault, and rightfully so.
Tim Bradford is a cop.
Which meant he had access to so much more than any regular person. He not only knew where you lived from the information he’d collected, but he could search you up. He could find out so much about your life with just a few clicks of a button.
And he did. He utilised his resources to find out as much about you as he could over the week or so since your date. When you’d gone to the bathroom, he’d accessed your phone and was now successfully tracking you. Never leave your stuff with an obsessed cop, am I right?
After the robbery, he couldn’t risk your safety.
But the biggest mystery of all in Tim’s eyes was why you hadn’t called him yet. You’d been working a lot recently, early days and late nights. You needed a break from work. The only places you went which weren’t your workplace or home was your gym.
You were done for the day.
The sweat that you were covered in made you shine in the fluorescent lights of the gym. You couldn’t wait to take a shower, but the gym was currently repairing their facilities so you’d have to wait until home.
If you’d been paying attention to your surroundings rather than yourself you would’ve noticed Tim hovering in the background. You grabbed your waterbottle and made your way to the locker rooms. Patting yourself down with your towel before changing your sweaty clothes into normal clothes. The more laundry the better?
You walked out to your car, blissfully unaware of the shadow following you. As you fiddled with your Airpod case you accidentally let your keys slip through your hands. Sighing in annoyance before bending down to grab them from underneath your car. Not expecting to be met with him once you got up.
“You scared me Tim.” Your hand clutched onto your shirt, over your heart as you rested against your car.
“Sorry. just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“I am, thank you for asking. I just… I feel like I’m seeing you everywhere. Like I’ve gone crazy.”
“Maybe it’s a sign.”
“For what?”
“To go out with me? Tonight?” You awkwardly laughed, holding onto the back of your neck. “As much as I’d love to, I’m not really in the market for a partner. I’m sorry. And I’m already going out with friends tonight.” His smile was wide, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “No need to apologise, just figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. We had such a nice night last time. You looked amazing.”
You felt bad for turning him down, but again, you couldn’t help but think. He never showed up before, but you see him once and now hes everywhere? It didn’t seem right to you. You chuckled dryly, “Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself. And yeah, I meant it as a friendly outing.” As you opened your door, it slammed in front of you.
Tim stood closer than before, and his nice smile and sweet voice seemed so far away. His hand rested on your door, having shut it. “You sure as hell didn’t dress like it was a friendly outing. Go out with me Y/n/n.” Your eyes squinted at his use of your nickname, which you hadn’t told him to use.
“I’m sorry, I just— Oh god.” Your eyes widened behind Tim as his head whipped behind, “What is it?” The door quickly slammed shut as you sat in the drivers seat. Tim turned back, you tricked him. He tried to open the door but you quickly pressed the lock.
“Open the door.”
His voice was low, it was a threat.
You pressed the button to start your car up, not daring to look his way. God knows what you’d be met with. You quickly pulled out of the gyms parking lot, mustering up the courage to look into your rear view mirror.
He wasn’t there.
You couldn’t tell if him not being there was more frightening than comforting. But you did need to put as many miles between you and Tim as possible. A night out with friends would help take your mind off it.
As you came home, you couldn’t help but sigh. The night had been totally exhausting as well as exhilarating. It’d been a while since you’d seen your friends, since your marathon had been cancelled after the attempted robbery. And you had also subconsciously taken Tims advice to not have any friends over.
As much as you hate to admit it, he was right. It was nice to take some time to recuperate and understand what happened before seeing friends. The millions of questions they threw at you tonight were even worse than when they were over the phone.
‘Are you okay?’
‘We don’t have to go out tonight!’
‘We can stay in, order some food?’
‘If you need to talk, I’m here.’
You were definitely grateful to have so many friends that cared about you after something pretty traumatic, but all you wanted was to drink, dance and forget. Which was partially successful. But he wouldn’t leave your mind.
Tim had basically infiltrated your life since you first met him that afternoon. And you had no clue what about you screamed to him, enticed him.
You wracked your brain trying to think about any time you would’ve given him any sort of signal to needing him. To inviting him into your life. And you couldn’t come up with a single sign. Maybe he was just insane?
How could you even get rid of him?
He was a literal cop. When at the station, you couldn’t help but notice how often people talked about him. Whether it was how amazing he was, or how reckless. The overall consensus was that he was a good guy, just a bit odd or impulsive. You couldn’t help but feel bad as well. He’d literally saved you from being hurt, or worse. And when you’d talked to him, he seemed so sweet.
Tim Bradford was respected, and you were just a civilian.
But to Tim? You were so much more. Having you in his arms, fully reliant on him to help save you. He knew you needed him, you just didn’t realise it yet. But he’d help you realise, there was no need to worry. He’d keep you safe, you’d never be in such a situation ever again. He wouldn’t fail you like he failed his ex.
“Had a nice night?”
Your blood ran cold and your bubble of bliss from the night out had effectively been popped. He was in your home. How did he know where you— he’s a cop. He probably knew more about you than you knew. “I did.” Tim stood from your couch, making his way to you.
“Meet anyone?” You shook your head adamantly, “No one Tim.” You needed to play your cards right if you were going to get away from this psycho alive. God knows what he wanted to do or what he was after.
By the time he was in front of you he had you pinned to the wall, right by the hallway. His hands came around your hips, fingers digging in. He smelled your neck, savouring the sweet perfume. “You smell amazing, and you look…” He was practically undressing you with his eyes. “Bet you danced a lot tonight, should take a shower.” Of course you’d love that. Which is what you wanted to say, but with his eyes burning into you?
You couldn’t respond. Not when his hands began to roam, and tug on the strings of your dress. Not when he led you into your bathroom, and let the bath fill up or when he undressed you and himself.
You were practically frozen as he bathed you.
He acted as if it was where he belonged, as if this was a daily occurrence for you and him. You knew you couldn’t get away now,
You were too late and scared of his power.

Buck was enjoying his day off when he first saw you, waving his way. He turned his head, expecting a friend of yours to be behind him but was thoroughly surprised when you approached him. “You’re a firefighter aren’t you? I saw you on the news.”
Buck smiled at the recognition and nodded along, “Yeah I am, how’d you know?” You laughed at his joke before smiling, “You did an amazing job there, just wanted to let you know. I know sometimes you don’t get the props you deserve so… just wanted to come over.” You looked gorgeous, and your smile was infectious. Buck had been lonely lately, feeling as if he’s behind everyone else.
Always wondering what would’ve happened if he never changed, at least he’d have girls around, right?
But then, he met you. And all of a sudden, he was glad he wasn’t the original Buck. The Buck who felt the incessant need to get into bed with almost every girl he wants. “I sadly have to get going, but it was nice meeting you.” Enraptured with your smile, he watched you walk away. As he smiled to himself he realised, “Wait! I didn’t—,” You’d entered your apartment already, and he didn’t know your name. But you had left your purse on accident.
He sighed deeply, settling back into the bench he was sat on as his hand tightened around his coffee cup. “Stupid Buck, should’ve asked her name straight away.” Whilst plotting about how he could find out your name, the smell of smoke invaded his senses.
Your building was on fire.
He sprung up straight away, his hands sliding all over his phone whilst calling 911.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“23 Rayweo Drive, there’s a fire!”
“There’s already been multiple calls sir, units are on their way. May I ask who’s calling?”
“Uhh, Evan Buckley. I’m a firefighter!”
“Okay Evan, can you please—,”
All composure faded away the second he saw you at your window, arms waving frantically. “Help! The doors blocked!” The muffled voice coming through his phone was discarded as he made his way up the fire escape. The conjoining apartment had a balcony only about three to four metres from yours, Buck jumped across before grabbing the metal table on yours.
Your apartments glass door shattered as Buck made his way inside, the sirens were getting closer. “Hello? Where are you?” Buck held his arm infront of his face, searching the place for you. “In here!” Your apartment wasn’t fully engulfed yet, the kitchen and entrance were inescapable. But the rest only had small fires, yet to grow. Your bedroom door was untouched but had ceiling debris blocking you from leaving.
Buck went right into action, carelessly throwing the debris to the side before bracing himself, “Move away from the door!” You stood in the corner of the room as Buck pummelled through, ending up on the floor. You rushed over, “Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?” His coughs were rapid, “I’m— i’m okay, let’s get you out of here…” A soft smile came across your lips, “Y/n.” He smiled back, “Buck.” The two of you slowly made your way out, but you stopped and stared.
A painting of yourself and your best friends, hung on the wall. The frame was gold, and melting. Your first ever apartment, up in flames with some of the most precious memories and moments of your life. “Hey, I know it’s a bit of a shock but we need to go.” Buck turned around to look at you, and at the right moment since the ceiling caved in on you. “Wait!”
Your hand waved around trying to grasp something as you held your breath. Were you going to die? All you could feel was a throbbing pain in your head, you’d fallen head first. And as your eyes closed you felt two hand grasp your arm, attempting to pull you out. “Stay with me!” Buck pleaded.
You woke up as you were being lifted onto the stretcher, eyes adjusting to the brightness. “Where— what’s happening?” The paramedic to your right smiled, “Welcome back, can you tell me your name?”
“Y/n/n!” Buck rushed to your side as you smiled, “Buck.” His hands brushed away the hair from your face, “Yeah, I’m here. Right here baby.” You smiled as they lifted you into the ambulance. Buck looked up, “I’m riding with you guys Hen.” The girl, who you assumed to be Hen nodded. You held onto Bucks hand the entire ride, earning some stares from Hen and Chimney.
When they thought you were out, they started questioning him. “You know her don’t you?” He nodded, “I do.” You opened your eyes, as everyone’s attention fell back on you, “Hey there, how ya feeling?” Chimney asked as you smiled, “Good, heads hurting a lot though.” Hen nodded, “You did take a bit of a fall, it’s a given. Your vitals look normal, seems like it’s just a concussion and some smoke inhalation. A few nicks and bruises, you’ll be out in no time sweetheart.”
“She’s right, you’re gonna be okay. Is there anyone you’d like us to call?”
“My mom. Her number is…” Your eyebrows furrowed at your lapse of memory. “Her number is…” You tried again to no avail, “Oh my god, I can’t remember. Why can’t I remember?” Hens face drained, “Uhm, you may have hit your head harder than we thought. Is your phone on you?” You shook your head, “It broke when I fell.”
The ceiling was all of a sudden the most interesting thing in that ambulance. How the hell did you forget your own mother’s number? You tried your hardest to recall but it was hopeless. You tried your fathers, and nothing.
“Maybe a sibling? A boyfriend?”
“I don’t have siblings. No I do, a sister maybe? Or is it a brother? My boyfriend… I—,” Buck watched as you tried your hardest to remember things, and he hated it. He felt horrible, watching you struggle. He just wanted to shout at you that he was here, you didn’t need anybody else. He muttered under his breath, “I could be your boyfriend.” You turned your head, “You’re my boyfriend?” Hen and Chimney looked up at him, “You’re the man? Why haven’t you said anything?”
He was going to disagree, he really was. But with you looking up at him so hopefully he couldn’t help himself. “I didn’t want to confuse her, especially if she didn’t remember. That’s not wrong.. is it?”
You shook your head. “No, no it’s not. I’m just glad you’re here.”
The last few days had been a blur, sitting around or laying down. Nurses fluttering in and out with a million questions of ‘How are you feeling?’ or ‘Do you need anything else?’
Yes, to go home. You wish you could yell at them, but then again, you didn’t have a home. But through it all, you had your boyfriend. Who was nothing short of a gentleman. Always with a smile on his face, always asking how you were. And with him you just wanted to answer his questions.
“Discharge papers are all signed, you’re free to go sweetie.” The nurse beamed as you sighed, “Thank you so much. Have a nice day.” As she left you squealed before hugging Buck, “Whoa there, slow down sweetheart.” You rushed back, “I’m sorry, I’m just so ready to leave this place, and eat real food.”
Buck laughed at your growling stomach, “I promise to cook for you every night.” He pledged with a hand to his heart, “Oh shut up! Quick question, does this mean I’ll be staying with you? Until I find a new place and talk to my insurance company?” Buck frowned at the idea of you leaving him, “I know this might seem a bit quick but, what’s the point in you moving out? When you could just move in with me? I mean… you’d never have to worry about a fire with me.”
You grinned at him whilst picking up your purse and slinging it over your shoulder. “I already look like you since I’m wearing your clothes. You sure you want me 24/7?” He’d want you glued to him if he could. “Of course, I could never get sick of someone so pretty.” Buck flirted as your cheeks heated up, his hand traced your back sending tingles up your spine. He cupped your face and brought you closer.
Your lips were soft and sweet, the lip-balm you used was flavourful and he couldn’t get enough. His hand traced down your back, pulling you closer into him as you smiled into him, “Buck.” Your voice was muffled as he continued on, you put your hands on his chest and pushed back, “Stop, we’re in public.” You giggled as he threw his head back, “If anyone looks at you I’ll just punch em’.” You gasped, “Buck!”
He raised his arms, “What?” The two of you finished packing up before saying your goodbyes to the nurses that had taken care of you. “You never told me you had a jeep.” Buck laughed, “I was kind of hoping you’d remember, you love her.” You nodded at his words, “I can definitely see why I did, or do.” When you arrived at his place you were irrevocably in love.
“I love the exposed brick!” Buck set your purse down on the counter as you ran your hands along the walls before making your way to the couch. “And the couch is tucked away, it’s like a bit of privacy yknow?” Buck leaned against the counter with his arms crossed, “Well duh, you’re the one that helped me pick it.” He knew you hadn’t of course, but it was somehow easy for him to block her out and replace her with you.
“I did?” You looked his way as he walked over before standing in between your legs, “You loved this place a lot. So I got it as a surprise.” You smiled at him before pulling him down on top of you, “Why don’t we spend the rest of the day at home, and you tell me all about you and me?” He smiled at the sound of ‘home’, your home.
And that’s exactly what happened, the rest of the day he spent making up an ideal version of the two of you. Of how you met, how the two of you were yet to tell anyone since you really loved keeping it to the two of yourselves. And how he was always a ‘in the moment’ type person, explaining the lack of photos together. You then went out to buy yourself a new phone, and trade over the SIM card.
“Hey babe?” You called out to him as he cooked in the kitchen, “Yeah what’s up?” He glanced over his shoulder to you, “I can’t find you in my phone.” Buck breathed in, he forgot about that. “We… had a bit of a fight the day before. Pretty sure you blocked me or something, and since I’m petty, I did the same thing.” You stared at your phone in confusion, “I’ve never blocked someone, especially over something as simple as an argument.”
“Well, you have. Your brains a bit fuzzy babe, it’ll come back to you soon enough.” You glanced up at him, suspicion filling through you. “Alright, can I grab your phone and put my number in?” He nodded before pointing to the bed upstairs. You jogged upstairs before unplugging his phone. “My birthday.” You quickly filled in the password and were met with a million messages and calls.
Hen: Buckkkk, reply to us. Are you okay?
Cap 🔥: Buck, you need to call in if you’re not coming.
Maddie ❤️: YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?
Eddie: There’s no way you have a girlfriend and just forgot to tell me.
Eddie: I’m coming over.
These guys must be his friends and coworkers. But you couldn’t help but wonder, had he seriously not told any of them that he has a girlfriend? Not even a hint? The last text from Eddie was only half an hour ago, which meant—
RING!
The doorbell rung out as you made your way downstairs, “Hey, no I’ll grab the— door.” Buck was late to it, as you swiftly opened the door to reveal, “Eddie!” He smiled, “Hey Buck, and you must be?” You grinned, “Y/n, but you can just call me Y/n/n. Please, come in!” You opened the door wider to reveal a kid, “And who’s this?” Eddie had his hand on the kids back, “Y/n, meet my son Christopher.” You kneeled infront of him before stretching out your hand, “Well hello there Chris, I’m Y/n and it is very nice to meet you.”
“Hello Y/n. Buck never told us he had a girlfriend.” You laughed at the comment as the two shuffled in before settling on the couch, “Well, if it’s any consolation, we hadn’t really told anyone yet. So technically you’re the first to officially meet me. None of my friends or family know about Buck yet.” Chris smiled, “What do you mean officially?”
“Well technically, everyone’s kind of met me already but I was rescued from a fire.” Eddies face dropped, “Oh my god, I completely forgot to ask, are you doing okay? It must’ve have been hard to recover.” You appreciated his empathy, “Yeah, it was a bit difficult at first but I was in the hospital. I mean, it was my first apartment and it went up in flames, it’s pretty hard to just get over it. But Buck has been an absolute angel, I’m really lucky to have him with me. I’ve been having memory issues, to the point where I wake up and forget where I am,”
“Oh god, have you been put on any medication?” You nodded, “I have, and it’s been helping. I think with the days my memory will come back. I mean I didn’t even remember Buck and I were together in the ambulance.” You laughed as you looked over at Buck, he chuckled at the joke whilst Eddies eyes flicked between the two of you before laughing dryly.
“Dinners ready!” Buck shouted out, the conversation was getting a bit too much for his liking. The four of you stuck to light topics at the dinner table on account of Christopher as well as you. And it was super enjoyable for you, Eddie is an amazing father and you could see how close Buck was with him and Chris.
“Well I think it’s time for this one to go to bed.” Eddie rose up before collecting the plates, “Hey no, you’re a guest, you don’t have to clean up.” You spoke as you grabbed the plates from him, “No no, you should be resting Y/n/n.” You both made your way around, “Okay we can both do them. You wash, I dry.” Buck sat on the couch with Chris playing video games, whilst simultaneously trying to eavesdrop.
“It’s way too late for the two of you to be driving home no? I’m sure you could stay. Me and Chris upstairs and the men on the floor seems just right,” Eddie threw his head back laughing, “Ohh, I see how it is!” You bumped his side and he bumped right back.
If all of Bucks friends were this great, he would’ve had to be one of the luckiest people around.
Chris and Eddie did end up staying the night, but the two men couldn’t sleep. So Eddie and Buck ended up having a few late night drinks, “So, Y/n. She’s absolutely incredible. So I have zero clue how you ended up with her.” Buck shoved his arm, “Hey I am a catch.”
“That I’d throw right back out.” Eddie joked as Buck rolled his eyes, “But you never told us anything about her, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit disappointed. We usually talk about everything Buck. And I know you well enough to know when you’re talking to someone.” Buck sighed, “It’s… complicated.”
And the weight of his secret was bound to come crashing down at some point, right?
Eddie stood with his head in his hands trying to understand everything his best friend had tried to tell him. “So you kidnapped her?” Buck immediately turned to him, “What? No! We were in the ambulance and she assumed I was her boyfriend, and god if you’d seen the look on her face you’d understand why I said yes. She was all alone, her apartment was burned down and her phone was broken. Maybe if it was some random person I wouldn’t have said yes, but I’d talked to her before. I knew she didn’t deserve anything that was happening to her. And she wouldn’t have a place to go if she couldn’t even remember her friends or a phone number.”
“So you took her in, to be a nice person? Were you going to kick her out when she remembered? What if she calls the cops?” Eddies head had about a million scenarios rushing through right now, “Eddie, please. You know me, I’m not a bad guy. If she starts to remember then I’ll tell her. But, we’ve gotten along so well these past few days, like you said she’s incredible.”
“Oh god, don’t tell me you fell in love with her.”
“Well…” Buck scratched the back of his neck as Eddie groaned, “Buck are you serious?” Eddie screeched, “Shh! Do you want to wake her up? Look, if she realises then I’ll explain everything I promise. But it’s not like I’m holding her hostage. I’m just trying to give her a place to call home before she gets back out there.”
“Buck, she calls you ‘babe’, and you do too. You have a million nicknames for her. Every time you get the opportunity you kiss her. It’s wrong, she has no clue what’s happening here.” Eddie tried to rationalise with him but it was no use. Buck sighed, “I know, it’s just— I know her. I met her before the fire and she was so nice, I was going to ask her out but then this all happened. And it’s not like she doesn’t like me either, is it really so wrong?”
“I guess not, but you need to tell her. If she really likes you, then I guess she’ll give you another chance to actually take her out.” Buck rushed forwards and hugged him, “You think she’ll give me another chance? Thank you Eddie!” Eddie scoffed, “You really like her huh?” Buck couldn’t help but look back up at you, “I do.”
Your eyes were wide open, adjusted to the dark. Eddie and Bucks conversation was playing over and over in your head, he lied to you. But again he wanted to keep you safe, would you be homeless right now if it weren’t for him? Or would you have found a friend?
The good and bad parts of the situation were equal in your eyes. He’d been lying to you, kissing you and treating you as if you were his girlfriend. Taking advantage of your state of mind, but you’d met before, and he was going to ask you out. And if he had, you knew what your answer would have been.
Yes.
And it wasn’t as if he was dangerous, or at least you hoped not. Tiredness came over you, the last thing you remember hearing being the sound of Bucks voice wishing you sweet dreams.
By the time you woke up Eddie and Chris were long gone, Buck was busy cooking up breakfast. “There you are sleepyhead.” His smile was always bright when directed at you, and with the morning glow you could only see the good. “Buck, we need to talk.”
Who knew five words could strike such fear?
And you sat infront of him, “I know. I know about the fire, and the fact that you aren’t my boyfriend. And hey—,” Buck didn’t waste a second apologising, “I’m so so sorry I knew I should’ve told you straight away. But when you said I was I went along with it and that was stupid. But I didn’t want you to be alone and if you want to go I will—,” Your laugh stopped him in his tracks, “It’s okay Buck. I’m not mad, well I am a little since you’ve been kissing up on me every chance you get but… you’re just a bit dumb in how you went about it.”
Buck smiled as he set out breakfast for the both of you, “Now how about this. We finish up breakfast and then you take me out on a proper date where we get to make all of our firsts for real. I really do like you Buck, your heart was in the right place, execution? Not so much.”
And the rest of the morning you spent laughing at Buck and his love sickness. “You know you’re kind of obsessed with me, it’s a bit creepy.” Bucks face immediately drained, he stared at your back as you washed the dishes. “But my heart was in the right place right?” He sounded desperate with the sentence, “Sure.”
You liked Buck, there was no denying it, but you couldn’t shake the feeling of weirdness.
As the two of you continued getting to know eachother Bucks happiness sky rocketed. And everyone could tell, “If you smile any longer we’ll need to tattoo it onto your face Buck.” Bobby joked as everyone teased Buck, “I am in a happy, loving relationship. Be proud of me.” Eddie couldn’t help himself, “Does she know that?”
The whole table burst out laughing as Buck groaned, “She has her memory back can we please not joke about it.” Hen pointed at him with her fork, “Trust me, we’re not laughing at her, we’re laughing at you Lover Boy!” The footsteps coming up the stairs were drowned out by the sea of laughter, “If Shakespeare was alive you’d for sure be an inspiration Buck.” Chimney spoke from the kitchen.
“Wonder what he’d name it.” Your voice caused the five of them to turn your way, “Y/n!” Eddie shouted as you engulfed him in a tight hug. “If I squeeze too hard you’ll forget my name,” He joked as you punched his abdomen, “Don’t make me hurt you.”
“There’s the famous Mrs Buckley.” Bobby smiled as you made your way over to him, “Cap!” He opened his arms up to you as Buck grinned, his team finally meeting you made him feel happy. “Great to finally meet you, but I feel like we already know you.” He spoke as he pulled out a chair for you. “He’s right, Lover Boy never shuts about you.” Chimney teased as you kissed Bucks cheek.
“Well aren’t you sweet? We all know how lovesick he is I presume?” The team laughed as Buck rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah let’s get the jokes out the way.” You smiled before holding onto his hand.
Buck downplayed just how much he loved his team, they were like a family, and now you were apart of it too. Buck was grateful to be in it, especially with you being the new addition. But every once in a while he couldn’t help but remember how he got you.
Love At First Sight.

Summary: (Y/n) makes her escape to LA for a fresh start, but she gets more than she bargained for with her two roommates. Two firefighters. One who doesn't seem to like her very much. And both make her realise she can't run away from everything.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Oh!" Closing her eyes on instinct, (Y/n) tensed her muscles and went rigid, freezing on the spot when she crashed into what was as hard and rough as a brick wall. But when her hands reached out for something, anything, to steady herself, they found a pair of broadened shoulders.
The sudden jolt made (Y/n) shiver but her mouth fell open and her jaw hung slack when she suddenly felt water dribble down her neck, onto her shoulder and trickle down her shirt towards her bra. She shivered, trying not to make another sound while her mind went into overdrive trying to figure out what had just landed on her. She was inside, so it couldn't be raining unless she had some sort of personal thundercloud hovering over her head like in a cartoon.
Her nails scrunched up the silky, somewhat damp material her hands landed on as her shoulders unintentionally rose up towards her jaw.
She hadn't walked into a wall. She had walked into a someone.
It took a lot of effort and inward persuasion for (Y/n) to make herself open her eyes and glance up to see what- no, who, she had walked into.
He was tall. Her eyeline barely scraped his shoulders that were round and tense and hunched up in a way that made (Y/n) think of anger. The material she was still clinging to, which happened to be his shirt, looked like gym clothing. It was a pastel grey with dark blue stripes running down the sides beneath his arms and she realised it was damp beneath her touch because he was sweating.
The shirt was glued to his chest like a second layer of skin and it showed every ridge, every tense muscle and each deep, sensored breath he took.
For some reason, (Y/n) wasn't sure she wanted to drag her eyes up and see his face. She knew why when she looked up at his rather handsome face. He didn't look happy.
His pupils were dilated, they were so black and deep that all (Y/n) could see of his iris was a small ring of turquoise blue outlining each pupil. Despite his wide eyes, they were starting to narrow in on her like he was scrutinising her and why she was suddenly leaning on him with bent knees and timid eyes.
A trickle of sweat rolled down the bridge of his slightly curved nose and dropped over the upturned end, falling onto his very deep rouge lips that were slightly parted so he could pant. And his hair was a dark shade of blond like when the tide took over the sand and dragged it into the ocean. His hair was forming small ringlets and tiny curls that were growing frivilous with sweat.
When (Y/n) looked back down to his lips, she realised it wasn't just sweat that was clinging to them. He had a trickle of water smearing his lower lip and tracks down his chin that glistened in the bright sunlight from the windows behind her.
The water bottle in his tense, clenched hand made (Y/n)'s eyes widen. She had walked straight into him when he was having a drink; that was why her neck and shoulder were now wet.
"I- I'm so sorry," Before she could stop herself, (Y/n) brushed her thumb over his chin, cleaning the trace of water but her action took him by surprise. He wasn't expecting such a gesture or the very delicate touch from a stranger and it made his eyes constrict and zoom in on her with curiosity.
With a shuddering breath, (Y/n) realised she was still leaning on him and she corrected herself immediately. She leaned back on her own two feet and retracted her hands from his chest, folding her arms up to her chest and interlocking her fingers to stop her bursting sense of panic.
"Who are you?" Evan swiped the back of his hand against his mouth, cleaning away the last bit of water he had spat out when she stumbled into him.
It hadn't been his fault. He walked into the apartment and round the corner, not expecting anyone to be inside his home, much less a strange girl who hadn't expected him to be around the corner either.
He couldn't stop his eyes from following the trace of water that trickled down the side of her exposed neck like a raindrop falling onto a window. He watched it pass over her collar bone and sneak beneath her top which was when Evan lifted his eyes back to her face before he stared at the wrong place.
He watched her take her lower lip between her teeth and stretch her entwined fingers, pressing them down against her chest almost like she was giving herself CPR.
She looked as frightened as a wild rabbit.
"(Y/n)… I- um," Her head turned to the right and she peered over her shoulder before anxiously looking back at him.
"Eddie!" Evan hollered, tilting his head back and rolling his lips into a thin line. He moved one hand to hold (Y/n)'s elbow, about to walk past her to find his roommate when a set of footsteps came from behind the stairs.
Eddie appeared in full view, a cup of coffee in his hand and a placid smile on his face with narrowed eyes. He looked between the pair of them before a light seemed to go off in his head and his smile turned into a wide spread grin that reached his chocolate brown eyes. Eddie moved to stand beside (Y/n) and pressed his free hand to her lower back.
"I see you've both finally met. This is Buck, the one I told you about. Buck, this is (Y/n), our new roommate."
A sudden pale complexion washed over Evan and he let go of (Y/n)'s elbow, realising he was still holding onto her like she was a criminal he was trying to apprehend.
So Eddie really had found them another roommate to fill the spare room and try to 'socialise' them both. He had ignored Evan's unease about having a female roommate sharing with the two of them. He had gone and asked her to move in anyway, knowing Evan had been at work for almost three days straight so he wouldn't have time to object and the new girl could move right in.
"Hi," (Y/n) did her best to smile up at Evan but she felt like he had reached right into her chest and curled his fist around her heart as tightly as he was gripping the water bottle in his fist.
He wasn't smiling at her. He wasn't trying to shake her hand or introduce himself or make any sort of small talk. He wasn't even acknowledging that she was going to be living with him for the foreseeable future. All he was doing was staring at her like he was trying to see into her soul and scrutinise every aspect of her person.
"Hi." He finally spoke. One little, careful word aimed towards her along with a nod of his head before he weaved past them both and moved to the stairs, tossing a quick "I need a shower." Over his shoulder as he went.
Turning on her heels, (Y/n) stared up the stairs after him, watching the way his running shoes bounced against the wooden stairs and his elbows pointed out behind him like guns aimed right for her.
"I don't think he likes me,"
(Y/n) moved her hands to hold her forearms like she was trying to give herself a comforting hug and her head hung down as her shoulders hunched over.
This wasn't going to be the fresh start she was hoping for when one of her roommates clearly didn't want her to be living with him. She thought this was going to be different. When Eddie told her about Evan, he described him as someone completely different to the person she'd just walked into. He described Evan as a loveable goof, someone who always made you laugh and smile and who could see the light in any situation and had a fact file of the most random things in the world.
He never mentioned that Evan would be so cold and uncaring about having her live here.
(Y/n) didn't want to have that sort of arrangement where she had to avoid someone she lived with. Trying to shower at different times and use the kitchen at different schedules so they didn't have to talk and interact with each other.
She had hoped to make friends with them both.
"He's just being a grump. He was expecting to have another guy share the flat,"
"Am I going to be an inconvenience?"
A frown pulled at Eddie's lips when he saw the light start to fade in (Y/n)'s eyes and noticed that she was almost drawing blood from how deeply she was biting her lip. He didn't want to upset her or have her think that he and Evan didn't want her here. Evan had been apprehensive but he had agreed, he just didn't realise how soon (Y/n) would be moving in and that it was all finalised.
"No! Buck's not himself… he's just had a bad breakup, he's beginning to think he's cursed. And he is superstitious, you know, believes in signs and that having a girl here might lead to something." Eddie's corny smile unravelled one of the nerves in (Y/n)'s stomach just a little.
Evan couldn't help but believe he might he cursed when it came to relationships. The only person he could rely on was Eddie and every woman had either left him or broken a small piece of him.
Soon enough there was going to be nothing left.
And a female roommate was a complication. Evan didn't like coincidences or superstitions and he knew how quickly a friendship could lead to something more. It was like a temptation, if they had a girl live with them who he liked, it could form into something more and that would lead to complications if the relationship went sour.
"I don't want to be a nuisance or have him avoiding me all the time,"
(Y/n) followed Eddie into the kitchen and nodded kindly when he pointed to the kettle, silently asking if she wanted a drink.
"Trust me, you'll be a Godsend, not an inconvenience. I am curious though… why move in with us? I was surprised when you said yes."
Eddie didn't know (Y/n) that well, he met her a few weeks back and they got to talking. (Y/n) mentioned she was looking for an apartment that was cheap since she had been living in a hotel since she moved to LA and Eddie happened to mention he and Evan had a spare room they were looking to rent. He didn't expect (Y/n) to agree.
Not many girls would move to the city and agree to move in with two men she didn't really know. It wouldn't be something Eddie would advise his sisters to do, it was something he would warn them against. He and Evan were stand up people, they were devoted to their job which kept them both busy so a roommate wasn't going to distract them or get in their way and they weren't dangerous by any means. But he was still surprised (Y/n) was so eager to move in with them.
(Y/n) folded her arms on the kitchen counter and arched her back and bum out, looking over at Eddie through thick lashes that hid her anxiety.
"I'd say it's because you're really nice and the price is cheap but… back home I didn't feel safe. I didn't want to rent and live alone when I moved here and- and two firemen offer me a place to stay? How much safer can it get?"
She wasn't stupid, not by any means.
(Y/n) knew better than most that monsters could come in all shapes and sizes. They could have stand up jobs, they could be doctors or nurses or work on the city counsil or be a lawyer. Monsters could have the most sweet, sincere smiles that would melt the harshest winter, but when they bared their teeth, they were frightening.
Eddie didn't seem like a monster to (Y/n) and from what he had said of Evan, he wasn't one either.
(Y/n) was desperate to feel safe. She couldn't live alone, she was too nervous and afraid to be alone in a new city and come home every night from work, desperate to add more locks on the door to keep the monster out. Eddie and Evan were firefighters, their job was to protect people and help them out of any situation.
They were the safest people to live with and (Y/n) already knew she could count and rely on Eddie. And if in time, she and Evan still couldn't get along, she would still feel safe living here with them.
Safe was all (Y/n) dreamed to be.
"Safe? Did someone hurt you?" Eddie asked before he could stop himself.
He straightened up and pressed both palms down on the kitchen counter, his brows furrowing as he looked across at (Y/n) in concern. There was a difference between being afraid of living alone and being afraid of your safety, Eddie knew that better than most. She wanted to feel safe and two firefighters who weren't afraid of doing the right thing and getting into fights made Eddie wonder if she agreed to stay here for protection.
As if she thought living with them would stop someone from finding or hurting her.
He watched her shake her head and try to smile but it didn't reach her beautiful eyes and it made a stone set deep in the pit of his stomach. Eddie managed a smile and relaxed a little, leaning back down against the counter so she could feel more at ease. He didn't know her well enough to push the subject when he knew the answer to his question was yes, even if she was trying to pretend it was no.
"Well you'll be safe here, I promise."
He would make sure of it and he knew Evan would too, even if he didn't show it at first.
"What're you making?"
A timid voice broke Evan out of his thoughts and he turned his head, sneaking a glance over his shoulder towards his newest roommate. He dragged his eyes up and down her frame, soaking her in, taking in her appearance that was different from the other day.
Her hair was pulled up into a loose ponytail that left a few curls straggling around her ears, framing her cheekbones like curtains. She had an oversized jumper on that pulled down over her hands making her look like a child in their parent's clothes, but it was a somewhat sweet look. Both her arms were rubbing into her sides and scratching along her thighs through the thick material of her jumper.
Evan realised a second too late that his stare didn't give off the best impression. He could see the unease flood her face and it dawned on him that maybe she thought he was scrutinising her rather than simply drinking in her appearance.
"Lasagne," He finally responded, clearing his throat and swiping his tongue out over his lower lip which had suddenly gone very dry.
His eyes followed (Y/n) as she folded her arms over her chest and slowly walked into the kitchen where he was hard at work, continuously stirring the mince in the pot.
(Y/n) stood close to Evan's side but made sure to keep a membrane of space between them. An air of safety.
The steam from the cooker made a shiver roll down her spine and she realised it was making Evan a bit tense, his arms were straining against the short, and rather tight sleeves of his shirt and a trickle of sweat rolled down his cheek and traced along the vein in his neck.
"Smells good,"
Her eyes cast over the cooker and the worktops in front of her, taking in how much effort he had put into making a simple lasagne, making it anything but plain. He had made the white cheese sauce from scratch by the looks of it, he had pre-cooked the sheets of pasta and was just finishing off the bolognaise which also looked like the sauce was homemade. Evan had to be a good cook to make this all from scratch.
A gentle smile formed on (Y/n)'s lips and with an air of nervousness, she stretched her arm over Evan's outstretched hand, reaching across to pick up the few utensils left on the counter. She took the empty pan, the spatula and the knives he had been using to cut up the onion and carrots and moved towards the sink to start washing up.
"You don't have to do that."
"I don't mind," (Y/n) had already rolled up her sleeves and started to wash before Evan could try and talk her out of it. He was busy, the least she could do while she had nothing to do was help keep the kitchen clean. They both lived here now, after all. She wasn't a guest in his home he was preventing from cleaning, she was his flat mate who wanted to help with the chores.
"Well I hope you're hungry."
Evan turned off the stove and grabbed the tea towel from his shoulder, drying his damp palms before he rummaged around to find another spoon. When he didn't hear a response, he turned and leaned his hips against the counter and tilted his head at an angle. His brow rose while he watched (Y/n) dunk her hands into the sink and tilt her head to look at him.
He could feel his heart rocket in his chest when she looked over her shoulder to catch a glimpse of him. Her chin pressed down on her shoulder and she looked up through her lashes, her pinched lips parted in an oval shape that made his stomach clench.
"Oh, um… uh me?"
"What, you don't trust my cooking?" Evan bit down the tension building in his stomach, feeling a small unease growing at the thought that she didn't think he was any good at cooking or that she didn't want to try whatever he had made. He was only joking but in the pit of his stomach he was worried she would answer his joke seriously, and not in a good way.
When he and Eddie cooked, they made tea for both of them, not just themselves. It was an unspoken rule and a habit they had kept since they moved in together. Why cook for one and not the other? They both shared the same food tastes, Evan would eat anything and Eddie certainly wasn't the best cook in the world, far from it. Evan thought (Y/n) would be the same, that they would all share the cooking as well as cleaning and she would eat with him and Eddie.
Maybe she didn't want to eat with them. Perhaps she was a fussy eater and wouldn't eat most of the stuff they would cook. Maybe she didn't think Evan was a good cook and didn't want to bother with his food.
Evan was trying hard to change his dynamics. He had lived all his childhood trying to prove himself and make people notice him, a lot of that involved getting hurt in order to be seen.
He valued himself on the reaction he could gouge out of others. He lived his life trying to please people and make them like him and to help people and it wasn't the healthiest way to live, everyone was trying to tell him that. But it was hard to shake old habits and Evan couldn't take rejection well.
"No! No I do I just, I just didn't expect you to cook for me too, that's all,"
(Y/n) swiped the teatowel from Evan's hands and hastily dried her hands that were covered in bubbles that dripped down her wrists. Her fingers scrunched the tea towel up tight, holding it against her chest as her big doe eyes stared up at Evan, praying she hadn't upset him.
She had been doing her best to be a good roommate, trying not to be loud, clean up after herself and making sure she didn't get in their way, but she couldn't get a good grip on Evan. She couldn't work him out. One moment he was practically ignoring her and the next he was trying to talk to her and all (Y/n) could do was fumble over her words and make herself look like a foolish child in front of him.
"That's what we do here. At work we all eat together as a family, me and Eddie brought that rule home."
(Y/n) didn't know how to respond to that other than to smile as brightly as she could to something that sounded so homely and warm it made her melt like butter.
She'd never had a family dynamic in any of the jobs she worked at. Back home with her mum, it hadn't been the best time of her life and where she lived before she came here, it had been awful. (Y/n) wanted to forget that part of her life that she was running away from. Meals had been rushed or done with shaking hands and eating in silence always made (Y/n) want to be sick.
Being with Evan and Eddie, chatting and cooking and eating together was going to give (Y/n) the homely feel that she had missed out on for most of her life.
Reaching out, she held the tea towel back out to Evan like some sort of peace offering and he took it, swinging it over his shoulder before his large hands clamped down on his hips. He looked like he was posing for something, maybe not a picture or a poster, but like he was looking for something or expecting something. It made (Y/n) stare up at him for a bit longer than necessary.
When Evan moved to start layering the pasta sheets in a dish, (Y/n) leaned over the pot on the stove to take a peak at the bolognase.
"You could add some oregano and put some garlic cloves in to flavour it while it cooks." Turning he back, (Y/n) moved towards the fridge and pulled out a clove of garlic before she moved to the spice cupboard and rummaged through, seeing if the boys had any oregano to add in.
"Uh, Cap's recipe doesn't have those." A smile tugged at Evan's lips but when he turned around, he rose a brow and slouched his shoulders.
He picked up the slightly crumpled piece of paper and hovered it near (Y/n) so she could see that those ingredients weren't on the recipe Bobby had written out for him. Bobby was always teaching Evan new dishes to try out, especially the ones Evan craved when Bobby made them at the station. Evan was nowhere near as good as his captain but he was trying his best and it was going well so far.
Evan wasn't about to add new ingredients or change the recipe, he wanted to follow it to the letter.
"It's just herbs," (Y/n) cut up the cloves of garlic and held out the small rectangle jar of herbs towards Evan with a gentle look. Would his Captain really write down all the herbs and spices Evan should add in? It wasn't strictly changing the recipe and he had followed it in every other aspect.
"Cap hasn't written them down," His arms folded over his chest and he jutted one hip to the side, watching (Y/n) with scrutinising eyes that made her shrink in on herself.
"Evan I was only-"
"No."
The way he tilted his head from left to right made him look sassy and for a second, (Y/n) couldn't decide whether he was tormenting her or teasing her or being deadly, ruthlessly serious. Either way, she took a step back and coiled her arms to herself.
She didn't notice the shiver that tore through Evan when she said his name. No one called him Evan, not even Maddie anymore. He was known and referred to as Buck and to hear his name when he wasn't at a hospital appointment or in a deadly situation was almost concerning.
Except when it came from (Y/n)'s lips.
"What are you two bickering about?"
Eddie sauntered into the kitchen, breaking up the tension as he stood behind (Y/n) and pushed his hip out against the counter. One hand gripped the worktop to keep himself propped up and the other rested on his hip as his eyes worked between the pair of them, wondering what he had missed so far.
"(Y/n) is trying to add extras to Cap's lasagne," Whipping the tea towel back off his shoulder, Evan tossed it onto the counter and grabbed the pan of white sauce. He was layering this up now because it needed to cook and he was already starved.
Closing her eyes, (Y/n) tried not to jump or jerk when she suddenly felt Eddie's hand on her left hip. His fingers were oddly warm and smooth and they pressed into her flesh like he was trying to imbed them there and feel for her hip bone. It wasn't the kind of touch (Y/n) was used to, it was softer and gentle rather than harsh and menacing.
It made nerves spark to life and send tingles running down the side of her left leg right down to her ankle. And when His chest suddenly merged up against her back and his chin peered over her shoulder, (Y/n) almost squeaked.
A grin quirked on his lips that made (Y/n) go weak at the knees as she turned her head to the right, suddenly realising it might not have been a good idea with how close it put her to Eddie's dark lips. They parted enough for him to swipe them with his tongue and at the same time he squeezed her hip, he hovered his other hand near his mouth, silently asking her to be quiet.
His chest pressed out into her back so that she could feel every shallow breath he took and if she concentrated and dared to enough, she was sure she could feel his groin if she moved an inch in the wrong direction.
Her jaw fell open and she sucked in a sharp breath when Eddie grabbed the handful of garlic cloves she had peeled and sprinkled them into the pot.
But then his hand moved to curl around the back of (Y/n)'s right hand that was still holding the oregano jar. This thumb clicked the lid open and he cautiously moved her hand over the pot, shaking in a generous amount of herbs. (Y/n)'s hand felt cold and limp when Eddie let go so he could mix the bolognase, trying to hide the new ingredients so that when Evan found out, it would be too late to argue or do anything about it.
"He'll thank us later," Eddie's lips were so close that if (Y/n) pushed her chin up half an inch, they would kiss.
She liked the flecks of light she could see pooling in his chocolate brown eyes and the way the tip of his nose crinkled when he smiled down at her. It almost made her forget to worry about Evan's reaction.
He was not going to thank them for this.
***
A shockwave rattled through Eddie's chest and he bolted upright in bed, gulping down deep breaths as shivers and tremors rattled through his body like he was being electrocuted.
He adjusted his eyes to the darkness and looked around his room, wondering what on Earth had bolted him awake from a dream so suddenly and sharply. But he didn't have time to think when a scream vibrated through the walls and rattled around in his mind that started to shake and melt in pain.
That wasn't Evan. He had bad dreams, but he never screamed himself awake. The only time Eddie remembered hearing Evan scream was when someone shot Eddie on duty.
It had to be (Y/n).
Without a second thought, Eddie tossed the cover to one side and scrambled to his feet, stumbling on the cold wood floor that made his feet jump and jerk from the contact.
Oh God, had someone broken into the apartment? Had a shelf fallen down in her room? Had she had some kind of medical emergency at midnight?
Anything and everything rattled around in Eddie's mind as he bolted out of his room and ran four feet towards (Y/n)'s room. He heard Evan's distinct footsteps that sounded like earthquakes when he was tired and drowsy, they followed a few paces behind Eddie.
"What the fuck?" Evan muttered as he rubbed at his eyes, trying to move a bit faster but his body wasn't working with him tonight. He had barely been home three hours and both Eddie and (Y/n) had retired to their rooms before he came home off shift. He had done a twenty four hour shift with no chance of sleep, Evan was desperate to be in bed.
Why was (Y/n) screaming the roof down?
"(Y/n)? (Y/n), Jesus what's happening?!" Eddie flung the door open so quickly it bashed into the wall and it made him think of a gunshot ringing out through the night. It seemed (Y/n) had the same idea because when his eyes found her, she flinched, jerking back in the bed with her arms bolted up in front of her face like iron bars and her hands digging into the back of her head.
Evan leaned into the room and switched on the light while Eddie heaved himself down on the edge of the bed, trying to be careful and gentle when he stretched his arms out towards (Y/n).
"No intruder, no damage, you're breathing… did you have a nightmare?" Evan spoke softly and leaned against the doorframe, rubbing the base of his hand against his eyes that were burning from lack of sleep.
He couldn't see anyone breaking into her room. There was nothing out of the ordinary, no broken lamps and no blood splattering the walls. She was breathing rapidly in a panic and she didn't look to have any injuries. All that Evan could guess was that she had scared herself awake from a bad dream and one look at (Y/n)'s petrified frame told Evan he was right.
Part of Evan wanted to move. He wanted to go and sit down near Eddie and try to calm (Y/n) down. Something had to have shocked her badly for her to scream murderously like that and be sat trembling, unable to move or speak to them.
But he didn't.
What could Evan do when Eddie was already sat there working his magic to get (Y/n) to calm down and open up. (Y/n) didn't need Evan sat like an awkward statue or hear him try to relate and tell her it was okay, he still had nightmares about seeing Eddie be shot in front of him.
He wanted to say she would be alright or refer to Eddie and say she was in good hands, Eddie had the situation handled. But all that came out was "I'm going back to bed."
Evan couldn't do anything, so he left.
"(Y/n), look at me… it's just you and me." Daring to reach his hands out, Eddie brushed his fingertips along (Y/n)'s arms, waiting for her to stop flinching at his touch before he curled his hands around hers that were going to bruise into her scalp by now.
He gently uncurled her hands from her head and lowered them down until her arms were limp and left trembling against her exposed thighs.
"Just you and me. Whatever you dreamt, it's gone now. Nothing's gonna hurt you, I swear." Eddie wasn't sure his words were getting through to her until something crossed his mind and he murmured "You're safe."
Those two little words made her flitting eyes lock on his and before he knew it, her fingers were curled around his wrists, pulling him closer until he almost bashed his temple into hers. He smoothed his fingers up and down her lower arms and brushed his thumbs against the inside of her wrist, trying to give her something to focus on and ground herself with.
With a twitching frown, Eddie moved his fingers around her wrist and pressed them firmly down on her pulse, trying to count the beats and form a mental note. His eyes narrowed but stayed locked with (Y/n)'s intense gaze, noticing the slight constriction in her pupils and how her uneven breaths sucked in a suddenly sharp intake.
"Do you normally have palpitations?" The concern was evident in his voice and he tried to keep counting her pulse in his mind. He couldn't tell if she was having palpitations because she had scared herself awake in shock or if this was something she usually had.
(Y/n) couldn't answer, but she managed to nod her trembling head, almost tucking her chin into her chest to try and give her answer. Her heart was the least of her worries right now. Palpitations were an old friend that always told her when she was panicked and starting to suffer.
"Okay, well it's not too bad-"
She hugged him.
Eddie wasn't expecting her to want or seek out his touch, not in her panicked state when his presence in her room had clearly been offputting at first.
But she grabbed him with such intensity that Eddie almost fell on his back on the bed. He could feel her fingers pushing into his shoulders but it was her face, burrowed deep into his chest, that shocked him the most. Unsure what else to do, Eddie balanced his weight on his upper thighs and hips, keeping his back straight so they both didn't topple backwards. And he moved his arms, curling one very lightly around (Y/n)'s waist while the other moved towards the base of her neck. He didn't want to scare her, but he also wanted to give her some reassurance and comfort if he could.
He didn't care what time it was, how badly (Y/n) was shaking and quietly crying into his chest or the tears and hot breaths soaking into his shirt.
He only cared about making her feel safe.
