You thought the world of Maddie, always had and always will.
So when she showed up on your doorstep, tears running down her face with bruises everywhere? You couldnât believe your eyes. âMaddie? Oh my god, come in.â You ushered her in quickly closing the door behind her.
âWhat happened sweetheart?â You always called her nicknames.
She shook her head immediately as you opened your arms, âIâve got you, donât worry. Wanna tell me whatâs wrong?â You took her hand and sat her down on your couch before sitting next to her.
âDoug.â
Just one word was more than enough for your blood to boil. Her husband, the piece of trash he was, always treated her horribly. Ruining her mental health and wearing down the strong woman you knew she was. He never deserved such a wonderful woman.
âHe⌠I canât do it anymore Y/n.â Her eyes were glossy as her lip quivered. You could make out a forming bruise on the side of her face, as you softly traced it. âThatâs okay, youâre so strong. I know you are baby, I can help you leave him. Is that what you want? Cause I swear, I will pack my shit up and we can leave.â
Maddies heart was racing, most likely the adrenaline from running away. But also having you so serious, so attentive and determined to helping her leave.
Through her years as your best friend she found herself naturally drawn to you, and you were always there for her. The first night she confided in you, you didnât ask any questions. Just opened your door and your arms as refuge. You never had any good vibes when it came from Doug, and your anger only amplified when you realised what he was doing to Maddie.
âNo, you canât Y/n. Your life is here.â She shook her head at the idea of you leaving with her, for her. âThatâs not your decision to make Mads. I have friends here sure, but most of my family is either in L.A or out of America. Friends come and go, but youâre more than that.â Her eyes flicked up at your words, eyebrows furrowed.
What is that supposed to mean?
âWhat does that mean?â You sighed as you grabbed onto her hands, âThis isnât the right time to say this to you Maddie.â She clutched onto your hands tighter.
âPlease, just say it.â
âI love you.â
Her world stopped, the words sheâd dreamed of hearing.
âI- Iâve loved you for so long. How was I supposed to not? Maddie you are unbelievably sweet, and kind, gorgeous, intelligent. God youâre perfect. And I am so sorry that Doug took that away from you. But you deserve to live. You deserve to help people, to live life without looking over your shoulder or worrying about angering him. If we leave. I promise I will do anything to keep you safe.â
She didnât stop the tears as they rolled down her face, wiped away courtesy of you. âLetâs go.â She nodded as you grinned, âReally?â Maddies face broke out in a small smile, âAnywhere to be with you.â
And you did.
For the next hour you spent grabbing all the essentials, clothes, memories, documents etc. You texted another one of your bestfriends that you were leaving, and that she should come over and take inventory before selling your furniture. She was an avid user of Facebook Marketplace.
Luckily you were on good terms with your landlord and your lease was expiring in a week. As long as your friends sold everything of yours, youâd be in the clear.
Home isnât a place, itâs a person.
And yours was currently right next to you.
Itâd taken you and Maddie a bit of time to get on your feet, having crashed with her brother Buck who was nothing but welcoming.
âSo youâre the reason she finally left him?â Maddie was currently in the shower, allowing Buck to finally question you. âNo, she wanted to leave. I just helped her, I mean you did steal her car.â Buck jokingly gasped as he clutched his chest, âShe gave that to me!â
âSure thing Buckley.â You replied as you took a sip from your glass. âBut, seriously, thank you. I have no idea where sheâd be right now without you. And she really does love you, I can see you love her too.â Your smile was evident at his words.
âI do, I have for a long time. Iâm just lucky. Now speaking of gay couples, you and Eddie.â Buck groaned as you giggled, âI see the tension everyday! You canât tell me thereâs nothing going on there!â
âSheâs right, Evan has a crush.â Maddie joined in as Evan shook his head, âThe two of you are menaces to society.â The three of you sat down on the couch and continued to bicker. Seeing you getting along with her family so well made Maddieâs heart swell. You were everything and more.
And you proved your love for her over and over. Always supporting her, handling her emotions and caring for her. When she woke up in the night after a nightmare, you were always there to calm her down. When she felt anxious, you listen to her concerns and assured her.
The two of you settled into life in L.A easily. Youâd always wanted to live there, longing for home when you moved to study. Your parents were nothing but lovely to Maddie, which made her feel at ease.
She became close with Josh, and Chimney whilst you grew closer to Eddie, Evan and Hen.
So when it came time to the two of you discussing starting a family, you were nervous but confident in asking Chimney.
And out of respect for him and his mother, you named her Jee-Yun.
Maddie couldnât help but become emotional when she thought about how far sheâd come. From the days where she feared returning home to now, when she counted the minutes till she could home to her daughter and wife. Her family.
But she wasnât in the clear yet.
Doug was still alive.
This is abt the 911 show, buck would definitely call his partner sunshine or something cheese and then have a giggle about it
no youâre so right! especially when theyâve been together for a while. and if his partner is a ball of sunshine then itâs suuuper fitting in his eyes đ¤
-
âsunshine?â evan called out.
chimney furrowed his eyebrows at buck, âyes, the sun is shining buck.â
you turned around and smiled, âyes buck?â
âohh!â
evan shook his head before making his way over to you, âyou are my-,â
âisnât that a meme?â
-
and evan would be forever annoying you by calling you his sunshine since that meme has ruined the word for you đ (iykyk)
YOU DONT UNDERSTAND AHHHH WEVE GOT IT!!!!!

Summary: Eddie is surprised when his little sister comes to LA, pregnant, and asks to stay with him. She needs a fresh start away from her ex, but things take a bad turn when she finds out her ex works with her brother. And he won't let her go so easily.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Do you fancy going to get a coffee?"
There was something about Maddie that felt safe. Something that made (Y/n) feel calm and at ease and like she was around someone she could trust.
She glanced down at her phone, wincing when she saw the few messages she had gotten from Evan. He wanted to see her and (Y/n) didn't know how many times she could put him off before he decided to turn up on the doorstep unannounced. But (Y/n) didn't want to worry about that right now, and she had an hour to kill before she needed to go and pick Chris up from school, a coffee with Maddie wouldn't be too bad.
"Sure."
She followed Maddie out of the call centre. It was strangely comforting that their shifts seemed to line up these past few weeks, they had lunch together on their breaks, they chatted in the break room and they got along really well. (Y/n) finally had someone here in LA who was her friend, not just her big brother and his team or her ex- if Evan could still be classed as her ex.
If she was being truthful, she didn't know what Evan was to her anymore, but it had to be more than an ex. She was having his baby. She was being drawn back into the web he created around her to keep her close and this baby was going to stop her from ever getting completely free from him. But (Y/n) didn't help the situation.
She still found herself drawn to Evan like a moth to a flame, it was inevitable. There was a string of fate drawing them both together and (Y/n) couldn't get away from him even if she wanted to. She had barely been back a week and she found herself in bed with him again and now, when she met with him at his apartment to talk or just catch up, she always found him wrapped around her like a blanket.
A warmth spread through (Y/n) bones and stopped her mind from racing away without her when Maddie looped their arms together and they walked into the coffee shop just around the corner from work.
When each of them had their respective drinks, Maddie an iced coffee and (Y/n) a mint hot chocolate- something the baby craved a lot recently- they moved over to a small table in the corner.
(Y/n) could have melted when she sat down in the cosy pink chair that felt like she was sitting on a feather pillow. It was a lot comfier than the desk chairs they sat at all day long at the call centre. Being sat down all day was good so (Y/n) wasn't always on her feet with the baby, but it didn't exactly help her back. Or her circulation that seemed to cut off when she sat down.
She sank back into the chair, dipping her head down when Maddie smiled sweetly from where she sat opposite her.
Her hand moved to absentmindedly glide across her stomach, something she had been doing rather a lot since it became noticeable. It also happened to be something that Evan always did whenever he was around her. And Chris had taken to touching her bump too, very excited to have a little girl in the family soon. "So, how have you been?" Maddie relaxed against the arm of her chair and crossed one leg over the other, nursing her coffee between her hands despite how cold it made her fingertips become.
"Good⌠busy, Chris has been helping me buy a few things."
It had cheered (Y/n) up immensely last week when she and Chris went out and he started pointing out baby clothes that he thought would suit his cousin. They ended up getting quite a few things ready and (Y/n) was slowly starting to get used to the fact that quite soon, she was going to become a mother.
Chris and Eddie were both under the same impression; (Y/n) would be staying with them for the foreseeable future.
Eddie didn't want her to get a place of her own yet when she wasn't settled and was still anxious. He and Chris loved her company, they were one big family together and he didn't want (Y/n) to rush around, if she had the baby Eddie wouldn't kick her out. He wanted her to stay.
"Have you told your folks yet?"
"At the weekend, it went better than expected." (Y/n) knew Maddie saw the grimace cross her face as she spoke.
Eddie had done as promised and explained the situation to their parents over FaceTime. They had the reaction (Y/n) expected. Shock, panic, then they begged (Y/n) to go back home to Texas with them or go back to staying with Chrissy to be closer to the rest of their family.
It was hard to explain to them that she was settled here in LA, she had friends, she had Eddie and Chris and she wanted to stay. But at least her parents hadn't gotten into the conversation about her ex. They hadn't asked if he knew, where he was, what he thought about all of this. They knew (Y/n) had a bad relationship and they figured she moved to LA to do this on her own.
Oh, how wrong they had all been.
"That's good."
(Y/n) could feel herself relaxing more and more and for the first time since she moved here, she finally felt like she had a friend. She had someone she could talk to who wasn't her overly worried brother or her brother's friends. Maddie wasn't someone on Eddie's team who (Y/n) had to watch what she said around.
Granted, she was closer to Evan than anyone else here, but she was still separate. Maddie felt impartial to (Y/n), someone she could keep to herself like a little secret. Someone she could talk to freely, to an extent, who didn't look worriedly at her or like she was making mistakes.
Maddie didn't look at her with panic and sympathy like Eddie and she didn't have that possessive streak like Evan.
She wanted to get to know (Y/n), they were friends.
(Y/n) began drawing her fingertip around the rum of her cup that was practically empty, save a few dregs of chocolate mix at the bottom and remnants of cream. She slouched down a little more, feeling the baby kick every now and then as they seemed to have come to life in the last twenty minutes.
"Can I ask you something?" Maddie pursed her lips and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. The soft creases around her eyes as she smiled made (Y/n) feel at ease and like this wasn't something to worry about.
"Sure."
"Are you and Buck, involved?"
A surge of panic shot through (Y/n)'s chest and rippled all the way to her heart. She did her best to steel her expression and make sure not a single muscle twitched in her face and gave away the terror that was now gripping her completely.
Why would she ask that?
(Y/n) had never once uttered Evan's name in Maddie's presence. She had been on edge at work for the first few shifts with Maddie in case she said something and let slip that she knew Evan. But after that, she relaxed. His name never came up except in passing and (Y/n) never commented about him. Why would Maddie suddenly guess something like that?
"What?" Her voice was controlled and as calm as she could muster, but she could feel her fingertips going cold as her hands started to feel numb and shaky.
"Buck told me you two knew each other, before you moved here. The way he smiles when he talks about you makes him light up, but Eddie doesn't know you know each other. I just, I wondered if that's because you two are together?"
Oh God.
He had spoken to Maddie.
He promised!
Evan promised he would let (Y/n) have the call centre to herself, something she didn't have to divuldge with him, a place where he wouldn't hang around like he used to at her old job. She wouldn't finish work and find Evan waiting for her like before, she wouldn't have him checking what shifts she was working or who she was working with.
When someone at her old job asked her out and subsequently got a bit too close to (Y/n), Evan threatened him and ended up punching him. She didn't want that happening here.
She wanted work to be a safe space where she didn't have to think about Evan at all. She wanted Maddie to be included in that, someone she could talk to and confide in and have a friend in rather than a conspirator.
But if Evan was talking to his sister about (Y/n), then that meant he would use Maddie to keep tabs on (Y/n). He would ask subtle things, check in on her, know what shifts she was working and who she was working with and how she was getting on. He would know every aspect of her day like he used to and that made him worse. Because if Evan got to that point again, he would keep tabs on her and then if he didn't know what she was doing, he got manic.
He got desperate and started to worry she was trying to leave him or deliberately avoiding him.
(Y/n) ran a shaky hand through her hair as she desperately tried to think of a response. What was she supposed to say? If she said no and Maddie relayed that to Evan, it would upset him, it would spark a row. If she said yes, she was giving in to him and his demands. If she said yes, she was making herself isolated.
She wouldn't be able to talk to Maddie anymore, the dynamic would change and Maddie would become family, no longer just an impartial friend.
"I⌠I didn't tell Eddie, they're friends, I d- I didn't want toâŚ"
"I get it, when I got together with Chimney, it did feel awkward with him being friends with Buck and all."
She had to get her story straight. (Y/n) had to know what to say because it would have to be the same story she relayed to other people. To Eddie. She had no idea what to tell Eddie and if Maddie somehow spoke to Eddie in passing and mentioned anything, Eddie would get suspicious.
She didn't realise she had been dwelling in her thoughts for so long until Maddie's hand softly rested on her arm.
"Is he the father?" Her eyes darted down to (Y/n)'s stomach and the spark of hope in her eyes made (Y/n)'s eyes well up with tears.
She couldn't find her voice, but she managed to nod. Evan would tell her anyway. If he was laying the seeds all around and telling Maddie they were together, he would undoubtedly tell her the baby was his. This was his way of making sure (Y/n) didn't try and disappear with the baby. If everyone knew, she couldn't make a quick exit like she had back home with Chrissy.
"Oh, this is so lovely. Buck's always wanted kids, and I'm gonna be an aunt, oh." Her free hand moved to her chest as tears overwhelmed her eyes. Maddie had always heard her little brother remarking how he wanted kids, he wanted to raise them the way Maddie had loved and raised him. He wanted to be a better parent than their parents had been.
She knew he would be a good dad and a baby in the family would be so lovely. Plus, now that Maddie was close to (Y/n), it made everything even better that they were all so closely knitted together into a family.
"Don't- please don't tell Eddie. We, we want to make it special." God, she was making things worse for herself. (Y/n) was digging a bigger hole that she wouldn't be able to get out of, but she had to buy herself some time.
"Of course I won't. I'm sure he'll love the news."
When Maddie looked up and realised tears were trickling down (Y/n)'s face, panic and alarm flooded her features. She gripped (Y/n)'s arm tighter and shuffled closer, leaning over the coffee table to try and find out what she had done wrong.
"I- did I say something-"
"No, no⌠I just, he's protective. An ex was, he was frightening me, and I- I go to Eddie when something's wrong. I hate worrying him, I want to make him proud."
She wasn't sure if she was making much sense, but Maddie squeezed her arm and nodded all the same.
There was no way to explain without letting Maddie know that her brother had a darker side that no one else had witnessed. She could hardly tell Maddie that Evan used to stalk her at work, he punched people who got too close to her, he would call and text incessantly and need to know where she was going. She couldn't explain that Evan wouldn't let her breathe on her own or be out of his sights for longer than an hour.
She couldn't explain how suffocating he had become unless she wanted to upset everyone and ruin everyone's lives.
But what was she going to do now?
(Y/n) had the choice of either lying to everyone and living the fantasy Evan was trying so hard to create. Or she could try and tell everyone the truth and shatter so many lives in the process.
Eddie would never look at his best friend the same way again and he wouldn't be around Evan or let Evan near (Y/n) because Eddie had heard what (Y/n)'s ex had done to her and he wouldn't let it continue. Maddie would be scarred for life and would have a fractured relationship with her brother. Chimney, Hen and Bobby wouldn't know how to go forward.
The dynamic within the team would forever be changed, and it would be all (Y/n)'s fault. And if she told people, then she would have to have this baby on her own which was something Evan would never allow.
He would fight everyone to be in his daughter's life, and (Y/n) didn't dare think what extent he would go to in order to get what he wanted.
"I know it must feel like you're hiding away or letting people down, but trust me when I say you aren't. Eddie will be proud of you for getting up every day and pushing forward, and it always gets better."
"But I let it happen, I always let things happen-"
"So did I." Those words trickled through (Y/n)'s ears like they were coated in sugar and when she looked up, she realised Maddie was almost crying. "I let my ex-husband make all the decisions, I stayed with him and let him ruin so many things. But his behaviour wasn't my fault, and I got away. Buck saved me in so many ways, and now you've gotten away, and we'll all help you. Buck thinks your so special, he'll look after you."
It was overpowering just how right Maddie was at the same time that she was undoubtedly wrong.
Her words were somewhat comforting but also frightening.
(Y/n) had gotten away, but Evan being here in LA put her back at the start again and she couldn't run away from him. But she didn't know how to move forward with him either when she was lying to so many people, and to herself.
Here was someone she felt close to, someone so kind offering her comforting words and friendship and discretion, and (Y/n) was lying to her. She wasn't able to tell Maddie the whole truth and she couldn't tell Eddie either no matter how badly she wanted to.
Everything was falling apart when (Y/n) was trying so hard to hold the broken pieces together.
What was she going to do?
***
Evan's apartment didn't look as unruly as last time. She let her eyes wander around the kitchen while Evan busied himself making them each a drink. She felt a little bit calmer being here this time.
(Y/n) wasn't sure why she felt so calm considering this was Evan's territory and if he wanted to lock the door and somehow prevent her from leaving, he had every opportunity. But that was just (Y/n)'s imagination running away without her. She had come here because he wanted to talk and she couldn't keep avoiding him.
The longer they didn't sort this whole situation out, the worse (Y/n) was starting to feel. She couldn't keep lying to Eddie. Not when it was eating her alive and every passing day made her panic that Evan would say something and all Hen would unleash.
They had to get this situation sorted, they had to work out what they were going to do and if they were going to tell Eddie the truth or come up with something plausible he would accept.
Leaning forward, (Y/n) arched her lower back out and folded her arms on the counter. She felt like she could fall asleep standing up. With anxiety eating away at her, she was finding it hard to sleep and then she was busy and coordinated at work which left her feeling even worse and drained of her last reserves.
She rubbed her palm over her eyes, trying to wake herself up and she glanced over her shoulder when she felt Evan walk behind her to get the milk from the fridge.
His hand danced across the small of her back as he passed her and when he leaned down to kiss the top of her head, a shiver coursed down her spine. If she closed her eyes, (Y/n) could almost imagine she had gone back a year. Back to where Evan had an apartment across town from Chrissy and where (Y/n) ended up spending most of her time. Back when Evan had been the best thing in the world to her.
Why couldn't things have worked out? Why couldn't they have managed to stay together? If Evan's temper and control issues had been curbed, they could have moved down to LA together with their own place and their own little family. Their friends and families would have been happy and knitted together properly, everything would have been perfect.
She smiled softly when Evan placed a cup of decaf coffee in front of her and finished off making himself a strongly caffeinated one. But when she glanced up at the calendar pinned to the side of the fridge, her eyes narrowed.
He had drawn a small red heart on next Tuesday's date, along with a time. 12pm.
That was the date and time of her next scan; something she specifically hadn't told Evan about yet.
How did he know that?
"EvanâŚ" She couldn't quite find the words, so she tapped her finger against the date instead. (Y/n) didn't want to accuse him of anything and be wrong, or worse still, be right and see that controlling side of him come into play.
"What?" His eyes narrowed slightly and he shrugged his shoulders, not sure what she was trying to ask. "Your appointment," He waved his hand as if it was obvious and leaned his hips back against the counter while he took a large gulp of coffee.
"You knew?"
"Eddie said he's taking you."
(Y/n)'s teeth sank down into her lower lip and she nursed her cup between her hands, letting the warmth ward off the adrenaline trying to gather in her stomach. She didn't want to argue, but Evan had to know what if Eddie said he was taking (Y/n), then Evan couldn't go. How would they explain that to Eddie? And they couldn't just say Evan had offered to take her instead, Eddie would be suspicious why his friend was trying to help his sister who Evan supposedly barely knew.
"I'll be off shift in the afternoon, so you can let me know how it goes."
(Y/n) was a little more than surprised that Evan wasn't pushing harder to be there, that he wasn't going to try and get a shift swap or finish early to be there. He had been eager to go to the last one and he told her before that he wanted to be at every appointment and see how their daughter was developing. He didn't want to miss a thing.
Knowing he was going to give in on this one and let Eddie take her made (Y/n) feel a bit better. If he could just keep doing this, being considerate instead of controlling, they might be able to find a way to move forward instead of going round in circles.
"Sure." She nodded and managed a small smile as Evan pushed off the counter and motioned towards the dining table so they could sit down and talk.
(Y/n) gathered her cup and slowly followed after him. She watched as he sat down and nudged the chair next to him with the heel of his boot so it was pushed out ready for her to sit down.
She set her cup down next to her bag that was laid in the middle of the table but when she slowly eased down, her hand moved to cradle the side of her stomach, causing Evan's brows to knit together.
"You okay?"
His head leaned to one side and he inched closer to her until their knees bumped together. But he was taken by surprise when (Y/n) reached out for his hand. Evan wasn't sure what she was doing until she softly tugged his wrist closer and pressed his palm against the underside of her stomach.
The baby was kicking. Evan pushed his palm a little firmer against her abdomen while his fingers started to tap against her skin, letting the excitement rattle through him in waves. His thumb started to stroke across her stomach as he leaned closer, resting his left arm on the table to balance himself so he didn't fall too far forward into (Y/n).
He liked this feeling.
That was his little girl.
Even after the kicking ceased and she settled down again, Evan kept his hand there for a few extra moments when (Y/n) didn't push him away or seem to mind.
The thought of missing out on this made his skin crawl. If he didn't live in LA, if Eddie didn't live here, if she had gone back to her parents rather than coming all the way out here or if she stayed with Chrissy. If any of those things happened, Evan wouldn't have had a clue he was going to have a daughter. He wouldn't have known anything until he went back there to find (Y/n) and found out too late.
Or if she'd had the baby and Eddie had shown pictures round the station. Evan knew his temper would have flared if that had happened.
It had been fate that (Y/n) was Eddie's sister and had come down to LA at the exact time that she did. Fate was finally on Evan's side for once, fate was agreeing with him. It knew he wanted this, he wanted a family, and now he had it. He wasn't letting (Y/n) take this away from him.
"She's happy," Evan murmured softly, and he couldn't help but lean over and peck the top of (Y/n)'s bump.
"She's always lively, lately."
(Y/n) reached for her cup and took a few sips while she slouched back in her seat and tried to get comfy, something that seemed inevitable lately.
A comfortable silence enveloped them for a while as they sipped their drinks, and when Evan kept one hand on her bump, (Y/n) didn't pull away or have the heart to move him. She slumped her right elbow on the table and then stretched her hand out when her phone buzzed in her bag.
It would probably be Eddie asking if she was alright, he would of finished his shift by now and realised she wasn't at home. He was a worrier just lately and he knew the only person (Y/n) would be out and about with was either Chris or Maddie. He liked to make sure she was okay.
She set about sending a quick response, praying Eddie didn't have any contact with Maddie and that she and Chimney hadn't gone out anywhere right now. Or else Eddie might find out she was lying to him and that was the last thing she needed.
"What's this?"
(Y/n) almost didn't feel Evan's hand slipping away from her stomach but when she lifted her eyes from her phone, she could feel her blood running cold and another kick jostled her stomach.
He couldn't help himself. Evan had seen a few pieces of paper she'd folded up in her bag and before (Y/n) could try and explain, Evan was already reaching into her bag for them to see what it was.
The only reason those printouts were in her bag was so they weren't lying around Eddie's home. (Y/n) couldn't have those laid about the house because Evan was a frequent guest and she specifically didn't want him to see.
"I- I'm looking at a few places nearby." She set down her drink and her phone on the table, but when she tried to take the pieces of paper from Evan, he leaned back in his chair and lifted his arm out of her reach.
They were apartment listings in Eddie's area, across town from Evan.
If (Y/n) was going to try and make a home for herself here in LA, then she had to start looking for a place of her own. She couldn't live with Eddie and Chris forever, despite how comforting and safe she felt being with them. She needed a place of her own to raise her daughter, but she wanted to be close by her family like when Eddie used to live in Texas and had been around the corner from her.
(Y/n) hadn't told Evan or wanted him to find out because she didn't want him to know yet. She knew there was no logical way she could keep him from finding out where she lived. If she moved and Evan asked Chris, her nephew would tell Evan outright. If he asked Eddie in passing or brought it up, Eddie wouldn't see Evan as a threat and would tell him.
If Evan pushed and ended up being involved in their daughter's life then he would have to know where they lived. But she just didn't want to tell him yet, not until she found somewhere and was settled and until she knew if Evan could be trusted.
"Why? This is our baby, you should stay here with me, you can't do this alone."
He tossed the scraps of paper next to her bag and reclined in his seat, crossing one leg over the other as he arched a brow at her. The way he sat with his left arm on the table and his right hand cradling his cup close to his chest made Evan look relaxed, but that wasn't how he felt.
He could feel adrenaline coursing through his stomach and igniting in his chest. If he was going to help and be involved, it was logical that they live together. (Y/n) couldn't do this alone and Evan wasn't about to let that happen.
"I'm not alone, I've got Eddie."
"You know that's not the same. She's my girl too, it'd be better her dad looking after her than her uncle. Come on, just think about it, for me?" That smooth, sugary tone in Evan's voice made (Y/n) coil an arm around her waist, resting her trembling hand on her bump.
She couldn't. She couldn't get back into Evan's grasp unless she knew for certain that he wasn't going to be as menacing, conniving and controlling as he had been before. She wouldn't put herself or her daughter through that mess again. Evan had to prove himself if he wanted any chance at co-parenting or being in a relationship again.
"I'm safe there-"
"You really think I'd hurt either of you?" His lips curved into a lopsided grin that used to make (Y/n)'s stomach erupt with butterflies and had her giggling and melting in his grasp.
She squirmed in her chair, sitting up straighter to click her back into place while she started feathering her numb fingers up and down her stomach.
She knew the answer to that.
Evan wouldn't hurt her, per say. He would never get physically violent, at least, he never had so far. And (Y/n) just knew he wouldn't hurt their daughter. But physically hurting them and being controlling and abusive were two very different things.
Evan could scare (Y/n), he tried to control her and what she did, check who she went out with, what she was doing each day. He liked to check her phone and her emails, he liked to validate the fact that she was with him and wouldn't run off and leave him. He threatened people he deemed got too close to her, he suffocated (Y/n).
And she had a feeling Evan would feel that incessant need to control (Y/n) and their baby too. He wouldn't want (Y/n) taking their daughter anywhere without consulting him first. He wouldn't want other people looking after their daughter or being around her, he would want to know where she was every moment of the day. (Y/n) doubted she would even be okay taking their daughter on a day out without Evan in case he thought she was going to take her and never come back.
"Do you?" His words were slow and precise, but his tone had a razor sharp edge like he was becoming impatient for an answer.
Evan dropped his leg so both feet were firmly planted on the floor and he drained the last dregs of his coffee before he leaned forward. He arched over and curled his hand around (Y/n)'s thigh, tilting his head to the right as he leaned close enough that their breaths mingled and their noses were almost touching.
"Baby?"
"You⌠you scare me Evan, isn't that bad enough? And what would Eddie say if I moved in with you? We'd have to lie to him or worse, tell him the truth. He knows, Evan, he knows why I left."
He wasn't thinking this through or if he was, Evan was somehow placid and calm at the thought of having a rift come between him and Eddie.
If (Y/n) moved in with him they would have to lie to Eddie and say they had very quickly fallen in love. Or lie and say Evan was the father, but somehow make it plausible that he wasn't the ex that (Y/n) was running away from. And if they told him the truth, Eddie would go mad. He would explode if he knew his best friend, the person he trust more than any other friend in the world, was the one who had scared his sister and caused her to run away.
He wouldn't take it lightly that Evan was the controlling, abusive ex that his sister was fleeing from. Eddie would do his best to keep Evan away from (Y/n) and her baby and that would mean cutting his contact with Chris too. Everything was going to get messy from here on out.
"Do you think he'd let you near me or Chris when he finds out you're the ex I wanted to get away from?"
(Y/n) couldn't help but wince when Evan gave her thigh a rather tight squeeze until it felt like his nails were piercing through her leggings into her flesh. She wasn't trying to rile him up, she really wasn't, but she had to be realistic.
They had to think of what they were going to do and come up with some sort of solution or agreement here.
"You seem to think that once our daughter's born, I won't be telling anyone she's mine. Do you think I'm gonna hide that?"
A wave of sickness washed over (Y/n) and she leaned her head on her hand to try and ward off the feeling.
She knew he wouldn't. She knew once their girl was here, Evan wouldn't hide his involvement. He would take pictures, have her as his lockscreen. He would want to hold her and feed her and watch over her and take her out and show her off. He would be open and honest even if (Y/n) didn't want him to be.
This was his daughter and he was going to be involved in her life.
All Evan ever wanted was a family, and now, (Y/n) was giving him that. She was the mother of his baby, they were going to be tied together with the thread of fate until the end of time.
He wasn't going to hide his involvement with his daughter and that meant everyone, including Eddie and Chris, were going to find out. Somehow. Eventually. Soon.
"So what do we do?" It felt like they had reached a stalemate. Neither of them were making this easy and Evan wasn't going to be satisfied with telling Eddie the truth and having everyone think bad of him. Or have his best friend try and keep him away from (Y/n) and their baby.
(Y/n) let her eyes fall closed and a sigh tumbled past her lips when Evan leaned forward and let his temple rest on her shoulder. His hand moved back down to her bump and his lips attached to the side of her neck. She could feel each soft breath he took, no harsh, ragged breaths like when he was getting riled up ready for an argument. No shaking in his system, no panic or anger visible compared to how unsettled and shaky (Y/n) felt right now.
"We'll work something out to tell everyone, you're my girls."
***
Tears cascaded down (Y/n)'s cheeks as she furiously tried to wipe them away, desperate not to break down into fits of tears that would only slow her down.
She could feel her eyes starting to sting and the familiar sensation tickling in her nose, giving away that she was ready and about to start sobbing. But she was doing everything she could not to do that. Her teeth were biting down on her lower lip so tightly she was drawing blood and her muscles were taut and tense to try and keep control and not let the shaking take over her system.
Just a few days.
(Y/n) needed a few days to figure out what she was going to do. She couldn't stay here any longer, not when she was getting herself into a panicked state and Evan was going to tell Eddie soon. He was going to say something because he wanted to be at the scan in two days. He wanted to be there and that was putting a deadline on (Y/n) to either tell the truth or come up with something plausible.
But she couldn't think of anything to say and she couldn't ruin everything her brother had built here. After all Eddie had been through with Shannon, he deserved some happiness. He and Chris were happy, they had the team, they had each other and Abuela and they had Evan. He was the brother Eddie never had and the uncle Chris desperately wanted.
(Y/n) being here was going to ruin that once Eddie found out the truth and she couldn't stand it any longer.
When a twinge shot through her stomach, (Y/n) leaned one hand forward on the bed and moved the other to cradle her bump. She let the tears trickle down her nose as she tried to take in a deep breath and calm herself down. She was upsetting the baby and making herself feel sick, getting so overwhelmed.
Her hands started to shake as she tried to stuff a few things into the bag she had placed on the bed.
Just a few clothes, a few essentials. She only needed to get away for a few days, three at most. Just so she could calm herself down and think things through without Eddie and Chris unknowingly making her feel guilty. Without Evan snaring her back into his arms, into his trap.
She didn't know where to go. She couldn't go to Evan for obvious reasons, he was the problem. She couldn't ask Maddie if she could stay with her because Maddie would worry and tell Evan. She couldn't go home to her parents, (Y/n) couldn't face them right now and they would try and make her stay there and move back home. Maybe she could stay with Chrissy. She always understood, but Chrissy was far away.
She would get out of town for a day or two. Stay by the beach, in a hotel somewhere. Just to clear her head.
"(Y/n)! Dad said we can go out-" Chris barely knocked on the door before he swung it open and hurried into (Y/n)'s room.
He was used to bursting in now that she was staying with them and he loved it. He loved having his aunt's room right next to his, out of all their family, Chris had missed (Y/n) the most when they left Texas.
But he took one look at her and the smile instantly fell from his face. His jaw dropped down to the floor and his brows furrowed tight until he was barely able to open his eyes. What was she doing? Why did she look distressed? Why was she moving her bags around and opening her chest of drawers?
"Where are you going?" His hand clung to the door handle as he sucked in three breaths all at once, feeling like his chest was going to explode.
(Y/n) rubbed her hand beneath her eyes quickly to try and wipe her expression clean and stop Chris from realising she had been crying. She did her best to put a calming smile on her face and pushed the bag to the other side of the bed, out of his view.
"Nowhere, baby⌠I- I just, I might go to the seaside, for a day or two."
"You said you were staying, for good."
The panic-stricken expression on Chris's face caused (Y/n)'s stomach to drop down to her feet and when his lips turned into a pout, she felt a tear trickle down her face. She couldn't. She couldn't even escape for a day unless she wanted to panic her brother and nephew.
There was no way for (Y/n) to win this situation. She either stayed and upset everyone or she tried to remove herself from the situation and caused even more panic.
"I am-"
"You won't come back."
"Chris-"
"Dad!" A horrid whine burned at the back of Chris's throat before he bit down on his thumb and stomped his foot down so hard the bedside table rattled behind the door.
(Y/n)'s hand moved to cradle her temple that was starting to ache and throb while her other arm curved over the top of her bump like she was trying to give herself a hug. Chris was going to have a meltdown. Eddie was going to panic and wonder what on Earth (Y/n) was trying to do. She had hoped they wouldn't be home yet. She hoped she could of snook out the house and messaged Eddie to say she was down the beach with a friend and would be back in a day or two.
"Chris, buddy what's the matter?" Eddie jogged down the hall and stopped abruptly outside (Y/n)'s room. He had been prepared to speed into Chris's room until he realised his son was actually in the other bedroom.
He moved into the doorway, both hands reaching out for Chris's shoulders as his boy stomped his foot again and leaned back into him with a lot of force.
"What's up, buddy?"
"Auntie (Y/n)'s leaving." He wailed loudly, tears welling up in his eyes as he leaned back into Eddie and clawed his free hand up Eddie's arm.
He didn't like people leaving. He didn't like changes in routine. (Y/n) was his favourite person. They knew that when (Y/n) eventually got a place of her own, they would have to let Chris adjust because he would hate the day she moved out even if she lived nearby, he would still hate the transition. But now he was under the impression she was trying to leave without telling anyone and it was panicking him.
"What?" Eddie's eyes snapped up to look at his sister who shook her head and wiped her hand beneath her eyes. "(Y/n), what's wrong?" The wary tone in Eddie's voice made (Y/n) feel protected and worried all at the same time. He could see it written across her face that something wasn't right and this situation was frightening him.
(Y/n) could feel her head going dizzy as all the blood travelled down to her stomach and she couldn't seem to take in enough air.
"You can't leave," Chris's voice came out a lot quieter this time as he spoke around his thumb and swayed back and forth against Eddie.
When (Y/n) shook her head and tried to mutter "I'm not leaving," Chris barrelled forward. He bound his arms around her waist but he leaned into her with just a little too much thought and sent (Y/n) stumbling backwards until she fell onto the bed with Chris on top of her. His knees bent awkwardly but he seemed to like this contact much better. He burrowed his face against her stomach and kept his arms bound tight around (Y/n) until Eddie hurried over and reeled him back up by his waist.
"Christ, Chris be careful buddy." Eddie heard the small groan (Y/n) let out when she and Chris landed on the bed.
He couldn't be as playful or demanding with (Y/n) as he used to, not now she was pregnant. Chris was used to playing games with her and having (Y/n) mess around with him, jumping on the bed or running around or picking him up like he weighed nothing. She couldn't do that right now.
Eddie lifted Chris up and stood him back on his feet and when his eyes looked down at his little sister, he watched her tilt her head to one side. She wanted to talk, but they couldn't talk in front of Chris.
"Buddy, you go put the tv on while I talk to (Y/n), she's not leaving, I swear."
"Promise?" Chris looked to (Y/n) as he spoke and he finally started to take in proper breaths instead of wheezing when (Y/n) kissed his temple, murmuring "I promise," against his skin.
Eddie kissed the top of Chris's head and watched him scuttle off down the hall to do as he was asked. Once he was out of sight, Eddie leaned his hip against the bedside table and folded his arms over his chest as a look of confusion mixed with sympathy washed over his face.
"What's going on?" His voice was soft and understanding because he could always read his sister like the back of his hand, just like she could tell what he was thinking without him having to say anything.
He could see his sister was panicking. There was something upsetting her and she was going into fight or flight mode. He could see from the way she hadn't ransacked her drawers or the beside table that she wasn't planning on running away, at least not for long. But the bag on the other side of the bed was a bit alarming. She was trying to leave for a while without telling him or trying to talk things through with him first.
(Y/n) always ran to Eddie, not away from him, which meant this was something very serious.
"I don't know what to do." Tears streaked down (Y/n)'s face again as she lowered her head and rubbed the back of her hand against her eyes. "I just thought, if I got away for a day or two, I could clear my head-"
She wished she hadn't of looked up. Her voice stopped abruptly and a wave of panic consumed her entire body.
Evan.
He was here. He was stood in the doorway, arms folded over his chest and one leg crossed over the other with his body slanted against the door frame. But it was his expression that made the baby do summersaults and made (Y/n)'s hand press down on her bump.
He looked angry. The end of his nose was crinkled up and his lips were formed into a broken frown that made his lips look like a ruler that had been bent in the middle. It caused his jaw to jut out to one side and made every cut of his jawline look defined and angry. Even the way his arms were folded made his biceps bulge like he was expecting a fight.
He had seen the bag half packed on the bed and the drawers hastily opened and half-shut. He had heard Chris's panic and seen the confusion. He knew what she was doing. He knew she was trying to get away again, but he didn't seem to understand that (Y/n) wasn't trying to run away with their baby. She wasn't trying to leave⌠at least, she didn't think she was.
"Running back to stay with Chrissy? I thought you usually ran away during the night?"
The rage was all consuming in Evan's eyes and caused (Y/n) to shrink in on herself. She wrapped both arms over her bump and shuddered, praying she might just pass out so this conversation didn't happen and she could evict herself from this awkward, bubbling situation.
She could feel her head going woozy while she glanced up at her brother when it struck her what Evan was doing.
She tried to shake her head but Evan's eyes bore into hers with a demanding, all-consuming rage. He was going to tell him. He wasn't playing around. He had just given away that he knew more about the situation than he should have. Evan shouldn't know who Chrissy was or that (Y/n) had even run away from there in the first place.
"What are you talking about⌠how do you know about that?" Eddie's eyes narrowed into a frown and he twisted to look over his shoulder at his friend.
How did Evan know (Y/n) used to live with Chrissy? Eddie mentioned that (Y/n) had been back home before she came out here, but he never said she lived with their other sister. And he never mentioned her name.
And how did he know she had run away more than once? That statement implied Evan knew that (Y/n) had ran away from home the first time, when she left at midnight to go and stay with Chrissy. Eddie never told anyone that and it wasn't something (Y/n) ever shared with people.
"You really think I'm letting you take her from me?" Evan's voice darkened into a gritty, coarse grumble and when he stepped into the room, (Y/n) curled in on herself like she was starting to melt.
"Take who⌠Buck what the Hell are you talking about?"
Twisting around, Eddie bolted both hands down on his hips and cocked one hip out to the side as he glared at his best friend.
What was he doing?
Eddie had invited him over because they were all going to go out for tea, but this was a private conversation he was trying to have with his sister. His sister who Evan barely knew. Why was he suddenly so interested in her and talking as if he was trying to start a fight?
Eddie waited impatiently for whatever words were about to come out of Evan's mouth next, but he glanced back over his shoulder when he felt a sudden hand on his arm. He felt (Y/n)'s fingers dig bruisingly into his arm as both hands clutched his forearm and she leaned on the edge of the bed so she could pull Eddie closer.
But a shiver crawled down his spine when he stumbled and realised (Y/n) was pulling him to stand in front of her. Was she afraid of Evan? He felt her lean into his hip and he realised a second too late that her hands were trembling causing him to shake with her. And when he saw a flood of tears pouring down her face, every inch of his blood ran cold.
"It's him. Eddie⌠it's him, he's the father."
When you and Eddie started dating, you waited quite a while before meeting Chris as you wanted to be sure in your relationship so as not to unsettle Chris. After about 8 months, you were pretty sure Eddie was it for you, and you eventually met Chris. Within 6 months of meeting Christopher you had pretty much moved in with the boys, and when the lease on your apartment was up for renewal Chris was the one who suggested you move in. That was over a year ago and since then the three of you had been living life as a happy little family.Â
Today, you had a day off from work but Eddie did not, so you had decided to take Chris out for the day. For weeks, Chris had been saying his shoes were starting to get tight so you had decided you would take him to buy some new shoes and buy him a couple extra treats. It wasnât often you and Eddie werenât both at work at the same time, even if you didnât have the same shift, you often overlapped so Chris would spend time with Carla.
Eddie was at work before you even woke up, so you and Chris had a slow morning before heading to the mall. The car journey was filled with music and laughs, you loved spending time with Chris and you guys always had an amazing time.Â
Once you got to the mall you found yourself chasing Christoper, the shoe shop was all the way on the other side of the mall so you had decided to do fun shopping first. The first stop was at the ice cream parlor, and then the two of you made your way quickly over to the lego shop. You both bought a lego set, as you planned to watch a movie and build lego together in the afternoon. Once the pair of you had gone to all the shops you wanted to, you slowly walked back to the car, trying to agree on a movie to watch while you were building your legos.Â
You were nearly at the car, when the ground started to rumble. Small tremors weren;t uncommon living in LA, but this was not that. The slight rumble turned to full blown shaking and the lights in the parking garage started to come loose and smash to the floor. You quickly dropped your bags and grabbed Christopher and headed for the car, it might not have been the smartest idea but in your panic it seemed like the safest option if the garage was to crumble.Â
Somehow, you managed to get to the car in record time as you were opening the door, you noticed a piece of debris falling and you quickly pushed Chris into the car. Within seconds of you getting Chris safely into the car, the debris had come down, knocking you down in the process. You hit your head on the concrete and briefly lost consciousness, but you quickly came around to the sounds of Chrisâs cries.Â
âIâm here Chris, Iâm okay,â you mumbled as you tried to wriggle free. Although, your right leg was trapped under the piece of the parking garage that had knocked you to the floor.
Not long after you regained consciousness, sirens were all you could hear and it became nearly impossible to keep your eyes open, and you were soon consumed by the darkness.
âCap, get Eddie over here!â You heard being yelled from close by. Squinting at the bright light you started to blink your eyes back open and were met with Buckâs face looking down at you.Â
âChris, is Chris okay?â you forced out, your throat was hoarse and felt as though you had woken from a deep sleep. You could feel yourself being rolled onto a stretcher, presumably to move you to an ambulance, or at least a safer area.Â
âChris was with you?â Buck panicked.Â
âI think I got him in the car,â you coughed, âCheck him first.â
A couple minutes later you heard a car door be forced open, and then Buckâs shouts.Â
âChris!â Eddieâs shouts were so loud. He had arrived onto the scene and saw Buck carrying Chris over some rubble away from the car. You turned your head slowly and saw Eddie embrace his son tightly.Â
âWhereâs Y/N?â Eddie suddenly asked. The panic in his voice was palpable.
âOver here,â You heard Buckâs voice get louder as he led Eddie to you. Eddie placed Chris down next to your stretcher and cradled your face.
âBaby, are you okay?â he questioned, whilst scanning your body for any obvious injuries.Â
âMy leg got crushed but Iâm fine. How is Chris? Is Chris okay?â you spoke so fast.Â
âIâm fine,â you heard Chris speak. You could have cried with relief upon hearing his voice. You had seen Eddie carry him, but hearing him speak and confirming he was okay made you so happy.
âNow, let get you taken to hospital, Buck can you take Chris to Athena and get her to call Carla please,â Eddie said as he began to wheel you out of the area. You saw Buck begin to usher Chris towards Athena who you could see a while away directing people.Â
âNo.â
You and Eddie both stopped and looked at Chris who was avoiding Buck and walking towards the two of you.Â
âChris, bud, y/n is okay. Your dad is just making sure she gets her leg checked out,â Buck tried to convince Chris.
âNo,â Chris shook off Buckâs arms and carried on walking in your direction. Eddie sighed, letting go of your stretcher and turning to Chris before squatting down to his level while holding onto him.Â
âChris, I need to take y/n to get checked out. Can you please go with Buck?â Eddie begged.
âNo.â Chris was being stubborn.Â
âChris please,â Eddie was starting to get desperate.
âI want to stay with mom.â Chris yelled.Â
You, Buck and Eddie all went still. Suddenly, the atmosphere had changed. Chris had never called you mom before. The three of you all looked at each other in shock unsure what to say or do next.
âCome here Chris,â you beckoned the boy, before helping him to sit on one side of the stretcher after you had collapsed the arms, âYou can stay with me.â
Eddie was still looking at you in shock, starting to feel love swell in his chest. The idea that Chris saw you as a mother figure made him so happy.Â
âChris, it looks like your dad is frozen,â you laughed whilst looping one of your arms around the boy. You had managed to get him in a place where he wasnât near your leg which was causing excruciating pain.Â
This brought Eddie out of his shock and he walked over to the two of you.
Out Of Stock [Eddie Diaz] đ
Description: Eddie is desperate to find a popular toy for Christopher, but it's been sold out everywhere. Y/N helps.
Warnings: Cursing.
A/N: Day 5 of 12 days of Christmas!Â
Y/N and Eddie are best friends. They have been since they met in the military, so since she doesn't have family in Los Angeles, she spends it with Eddie, Christopher and the rest of their family.
Y/N owns her own business. A home goods store called "Home Remedies". She designs, and oversees everything, but she still had time to keep Christopher when Eddie's family couldn't or needed a break. Sometimes she just wants to spend time with him, especially since his mom died. She never wants to or will replace his mother, but she wants him to have a mother figure, and everyone thinks she's the perfect person for it.
Y/N has been their shoulder to lean on since she left, and she continued to do so after she died. Eddie knew he loved her, but after Shannon coming back he was so confused. Here lately though,
Today was one of those days where Eddie was working and Christopher wanted to stay with Y/N, so she stopped working for a little bit, and picked him up from school. Y/N brings him back to work with her but stops by the bakery next door to get him something sweet to snack on while he does his homework.
"You excited for Christmas break Chris?" She asks as the walk into her store.
"Yeah." He sighs.
"Chris, what's wrong?" She asks as she takes him into the conference room where she was working before to get him set up.
"I'm not sure if Santa is going to be able to gift me the one thing I put on my list."
"Why's that?" Y/N asks as she helps him get in the chair and get his stuff out of his bag.
"Because everyone asked for the new hot wheels mustang LEGO set. I don't think the elves will have enough supplies to make everybody one." Chris replies as he writes his name on his math paper.
"Well, I'm sure Santa and the elves have it covered Chris. They are magic after all." She squats down to his level and presses a kiss to his head. "Don't worry ok? I'll put in a good word with Santa."
§§§
"Y/N, I seriously can not find this mustang anywhere! That's the only thing he asked for. What am I supposed to do?" Eddie asks as Y/N grabs a new science kit for Christopher off of the shelf.
"It will be ok Eddie. We'll make sure he gets it." Y/N turns and sees his scrunched up face before sighing and putting the box in her cart. "Now I know where your son gets his constant worrying."
Eddie pouts and pinches her side. "Y/N, stop picking on me."
"Sorry, I wish I could, but I don't want to."
He scoffs and puts his arm around her shoulders.
"Oh come on. I thought you loved me."
"I do love you Ed."
§§§
Y/N had a meeting with a store she sells to today. The store carried everything you could think of, so she wasn't surprised to hear that they got the last shipment of the Hot Wheels Mustang LEGO set. She perked you at the statement and turned to the owner.
"How much do those LEGO sets normally cost?"
"One hundred and twenty. Why?" The man asks.
"I'll give you double for one." She proposes.
"I don't know, I mean is that ethical or whatever?" The man questions.
"Look sir, I really need one of those for my best friends son, Christopher. That's the only thing he asked for this Christmas and neither his father nor I can find it anywhere." She explains. The man sits for a few seconds, still contemplating until she speaks up again. "How about three hundred?"
"You've got yourself a deal Ms. Y/L/N." The man smiles.
§§§
After completing her meeting and grabbing the LEGO set, Y/N makes a quick stop at the station to see Eddie.
She walks in, set in her hands, Eddie looks up and his eyes go wide.
"Oh my god. How did- Did you- Holy shit." He lets out a sigh of relief and wraps Y/N in his arms, picks her up and spins her around.
The rest of the 118 gathers to see what's going on and Buck immediately recognizes who the woman is.
"That's Y/N. His best friend, and also kind of Christopher's mother figure." He whispers to everyone, and they all nod.
Eddie sets Y/N down and hugs her even more.
"Oh my god I could kiss you right now I love you so much!"
He doesn't even realize what he said until he sees the confusion in her eyes, so he quickly diverts.
"Christopher is going to be so happy Y/N! How much do I owe you?"
"Don't worry about it Ed. Just tell him it's from Santa and that he always has enough for the good girls and boys." Y/N smiles as she hands it over.
"Are you sure?" Eddie asks.
"Of course! He deserves everything he wants." She replies.
As Eddie was about to reply the tones went off throughout the fire station and everyone started running to their trucks.
"Here, I'll put it in your closet when I take Chris home."
Eddie hands it over and quickly thanks her before running to get his gear and get in the truck.
Once he's settled and has his seatbelt on Buck turns to him.
"If you don't marry her, I will."
§§§
It was finally Christmas Day and Christopher was up early to open gifts and have breakfast before getting ready to spend the rest of his day with family. Y/N and Eddie have started getting more comfortable with the idea of maybe becoming something more than just friends and everyone could tell that it would work out in their favor, as well as Christopher's.
"All right Chris, this one is from Santa!" Y/N exclaims and hands him the gift that she wrapped because Eddie could not wrap to save his life.
Christopher took the gift from her and started ripping the paper. Once he saw the logo on the box he got excited.
"Oh my gosh! No way!" He exclaims.
"What did you get?" Eddie asks and leans over to see.
"The Hot Wheels Mustang LEGO set!"
"Santa and the elves did good this year didn't they?" Y/N asks from beside Christopher.
"Yeah! This is so cool!"
After Christopher opened his gifts, it was now time for Y/N and Eddie to open theirs.
Y/N and Christopher got Eddie a new punching bag and gloves. Eddie and Christopher got Y/N a fancy coffee machine and travel mugs since she uses them all of the time, but Eddie and Christopher have a surprise for Y/N.
"Hey Chris, can you grab that box beside you and hand it to her?"
Christopher nods and hand it to her excitedly. Y/N gives Eddie a confused look and he just tells her to open it.
She unwraps the box and opens it to see a picture of the three of them and a letter taped to it. She smiles at the picture and then grabs the piece of paper.
"Read it out loud." Eddie urges.
"Y/N. I do not know where Christopher and I would be without you. You have always been our rock and have never left our side even when things got really tough, or when we moved to a different state. You were there for me and my son when no one else was. I love you and I have since I first met you. I know you love me too, and my son. You are his mother. You have cared for him and loved him even when his biological mother didn't. Thank you for loving both of us, now we just hope you will let us continue to love you by being ours. My partner, and Christopher's mom." She reads aloud. She started crying during the third sentence, so the only way she could answer was by nodding her head and sobbing. Eddie sits down on her other side and presses a kiss to her head and then moves onto Christopher doing the same.
"I love you guys. So much." She kisses Christopher's cheek and then pulls Eddie in for a quick kiss.
"I love you mom." Christopher says as he snuggles into her side.
She may not be his mother by blood, but she is Christopher's mom and the love of Eddie's life.
Prove It To Me [Eddie Diaz]â ď¸
Description: Eddie and Y/N fall in love after Eddieâs wife dies. Eddie gets into fighting and it tears them apart.
Warnings: Curse words, beaten body.
A/N: This will have more than one part!
After Eddie's wife died, everything seemed like it would never get better, then he met Y/N.
She was in the middle of a consult down in the Emergency Room when one of the nurses yelled for her. She excused herself and jogged over to the commotion.
A group of firefighters were bringing a woman in who was actively giving birth. They pushed the gurney into a trauma room and she put a fresh pair of gloves on.
The Emergency Room was short staffed that evening, so she asked the group of firefighters to stay.
After the baby was born and the mother was cleaned up she stepped out to thank the firefighters for their help and a man with brown hair and a very cute smile introduced himself first.
"I'm Eddie."
"Hi Eddie, I'm Y/N." She smiled.
After that they were almost inseparable, so it's not surprising how fast their relationship developed.
"Eddie, where have you been?" Y/N asked as he walks into their shared bedroom, four hours later than when he was supposed to be home.
"I've been out. Why does it matter?" He grumbles as he grabs pajamas to change into and heads into the bathroom and shuts the door.
Y/N gets out of the bed and follows him. She pushes the door open, just as he's taking his shirt off.
"Because we-. Eddie, what happened?!" She exclaims, but quiet enough so Christopher can't hear her. She reaches her hand out for his arm, but he rips it away.
"Don't worry about it. I'm fine. I don't need your help." He snaps, throwing his shirt in the dirty laundry basket.
"Okay, continue to not tell me what's wrong with you, whatever, but these gashes look nasty, so let me help you." Eddie rolls his eyes.
"No, I'll let you know when I'm a woman and have a vagina. Until then I don't need your help." He turns away from her with a huff and starts the shower.
Her mouth drops and her cheeks heat up with anger.
"You know what? Fuck you, Eddie Diaz." She turns around and slams the door shut.
He ignores her and jumps in the shower, and after thirty minutes, he finally gets out of the shower. He puts his clothes on and steps out into the room, expecting his fiancĂŠe to be asleep but when he sees suitcases, stuff thrown around and multiple bags his heart drops into his stomach.
"What are you doing?" He asks quietly.
"What does it look like?" She responds coldly.
"Like you're packing."
"Oh, one point for Eddie."
"Why?"
"Because, I am tired of this. I'm tired of you not showing up when you say you will. I'm tired of you snapping at me, and our son. I'm tired of the way you're acting lately. And I am so sorry I wasn't in the military and I'm sorry I'm not a hero firefighter but I worked my fucking ass off to be who I am today. I am the best OB/Gyn in Los Angeles and I have done so many nearly impossible In-Utero surgeries you wouldn't be able to count them on your fingers and toes and all of those babies and their mothers are alive because of me. So I'm leaving until you get your shit together and start being the Eddie I know and love. The one who loves and cares about Christopher and I." She finishes as she zips up her last bag and takes it into the hallway.
"You can't leave." Eddie says as he follows her.
"Who says I can't?" She retaliates.
"You can't leave me. You can't leave Christopher."
"I'm not leaving Christopher. I'm leaving you. He can come stay with me whenever he wants." She says as she walks into the child's room and over to his bed. Eddie stands in the doorway and listens.
She kneels down beside his bed and puts her hand in his hair.
"Chris?" She whispers as she presses a kiss to his head.
"Is it time for school already?" He sighs sleepily as he pops one eye open.
"No honey, it's not." She smiles. "I'm going to go for a while, okay? I'll be back, but for now I need to go."
"Is everything okay?" He asks as he notices the tears in her eyes.
"Yes. Everything is okay." She whispers and kisses his cheek. "I love you, please don't forget that."
"I love you too momma."
A tear falls down her cheek and onto his comforter and she takes in a shaky breath.
"Go back to bed." She tucks him in and makes a quick exit of his room.
She shoves past Eddie, who has tears falling down his face as well before grabbing her stuff and walking down the stairs with them.
Eddie slowly follows her and watches as she takes her stuff and places it in her car. She comes back inside and stops right inside the door.
"I'll come back to get the rest of my stuff and then we will talk." After she finishes she turns to leave, but Eddie's voice stops her.
"I love you." She turns and looks him in the eyes.
"Prove it to me."
Well, Now Youâre Caught [Evan âBuckâ Buckley]
Description: Y/N is a new Paramedic, and she is placed at LAFD's 118. There she meets Evan Buckley and a secret relationship ensues, until itâs not a secret anymore.
Warnings: Should I even put cuss words anymore or should we just expect it from me?
Y/N walked into the One-Eighteen and glanced around. There were quite a few people in the big station. Some were cleaning apparatuses, some were upstairs lounging and eating and some were working out. She looked to see if Hen was there and as if she felt the younger girls presence she descended down the stairs.
"Y/N! You're here!" She exclaims and quickens her pace. When she reaches the girl, she throws her arms around her and brings her in for a hug.
The sudden commotion catches people's attention, specially the group that was working out. Eddie, Chimney and Buck all stopped what they were doing and looked at Hen and the other girl.
"Who's that?" Buck asks the two. Both Eddie and Chimney shrug and return their attention to the girls. "She's cute." He mumbles.
"How's your sister?" Hen asks.
"She's doing great. Jack just turned two months old so he's finally starting to sleep at night." Y/N replies.
"I need to go see them, I haven't seen her since the day after he was born." Hen says.
"I'll show you some pictures later after I get settled." She chuckles. "Is Captain Nash available? I was told to ask for him when I got here."
"He was on the phone, so I can introduce you to everyone and show you around until he's done." Y/N nods and follows Hen as she introduces her to some other firefighters.
She finally makes it around to their group and Hen immediately gives Buck a warning glance.
"Guys, this is Y/N. She's a paramedic and will be working with us for a while. She's my best friends little sister, so be nice." She again, glances at Buck. "Y/N, this is Chimney, Eddie and Evan, also known as Buck." Y/N smiles and shakes everyone's hand. Everyone behaved until she got to Buck, who held onto her hand longer than needed and winked at her.
"It's nice to meet you guys." Y/N says.
"It's really nice to meet you." Buck blurts. Chimney smacks his back and Buck looks at him. "What?"
"Behave."
Then, Captain Nash comes down and says hello before taking her up into his office to fill out paperwork. Buck watches as she walks up the stairs and everyone starts laughing.
"Oh my god, I think this is a new record." Chimney laughs.
"Buck, you just met her." Eddie sighs.
"Listen I know she's attractive but she's a sweet girl and if you hurt her I'll have to hurt you." Hen threatens.
"She's not just attractive, she's absolutely gorgeous." Buck says as he continues to watch her through the glass.
"Oh he's already gone." Chimney starts dying of laughter and eventually pulls Eddie with him and then Hen, reluctantly.
"I bet two months."
"Oh shut up."
§§§
It took three months. Three months of longing glances, heart eyes and constant affection for Buck to ask Y/N out. Their six month relationship had been kept a secret and so far they'd been doing great at hiding it.
For dates, they'd either stay in, or go out of town. Anytime they'd go out with their friends, they'd act normal, not touch each other too much or act "coupley". They'd also stay at each other's house, but they made damn sure either no one would stop by, there wasn't any evidence of the person being there, or they weren't in a compromising position.
Lately though, Buck had been less careful. Honestly, he didn't care anymore. He knew what he wanted, and that was Y/N, for the rest of his life. Sure, he wouldn't tell her that yet, just so she didn't get overwhelmed, but he knew. He knew he was done the second he met her.
Y/N knew she was done too, but she's never been one to easily admit her feelings, and she felt like she might've been moving too fast, developing those feelings already.
Y/N was in the bathroom, just getting out of the shower after a call where a patients carotid artery was cut, so as expected it was a mess. Buck wanted to see his girlfriend, so he walked into the bathroom and stood outside of the shower.
Y/N stepped out in a towel and squealed when she saw Buck standing there.
"Evan, what the hell? You canât just stand outside of the shower while Iâm in here. I could of been naked." She whisper yells.
"Itâs nothing I havenât seen before. Multiple times." He smirks and pushes himself off the wall. He stops right in front of her and wraps a arm around her while his other hand goes to cradle her face. "Youâre really beautiful." He kisses her forehead.
"I know, you tell me all of the time, just like I tell you youâre handsome all of the time." Y/N smiles.
"You deserve to be told youâre beautiful twenty-four seven, but if I did that youâd deck me."
"I would not deck you Evan." She laughs.
"You donât like attention all of the time. Youâd tell me to stop." Buck looks down at her.
"Yeah Iâd probably do that." He kisses her cheek. "Weâre going to get caught."
"I donât care." He kisses her nose.
"Well I donât either but Iâd rather not get caught at work while Iâm only in a towel and my underwear."
"We wonât get caught." Then her kisses her lips.
The door opens and Hen stands there with Eddie and Chimney.
"I knew it! You owe me twenty bucks Chim." Eddie exclaims.
"Damnit guys, you couldnât have waited two more months." Chimney grumbles.
"Well, now youâre caught." Hen says. "What do you have to say for yourself Mr. Buckley?"
Buck turns to look at Y/N and she shrugs.
"I love her. This isnât one of my short flings. Weâve been dating for six months and I really do love her." Buck explains. Y/N blushes and grabs his hand.
"I love him too. He wonât hurt me, I know he wonât."
Hen sighs and looks at Eddie and Chimney who both have "awe" faces.
"Fine, but you have to tell Bobby. Y/N's like his baby now, so you need to tell him." She tells Buck.
"I will, I promise." Buck replies.
"And I will be telling your sister. That woman needs some entertainment." Hen turns and runs out of the room grabbing for her phone to call her friend.
"Oh god. Sheâs going to tell my parents." Y/N groans and buries her face into Buck's chest.
"Your parents are sweethearts." Buck giggles. "Iâm not scared."
"My mom is but when you met my dad we were just friends, now that he knows youâre my boyfriend heâs going to try and intimidate you."
"Your dad is going to love him." Eddie says.
"Yeah! Your dad is going to love me."
Prove It To Me [Eddie Diaz] â
Part Two
Description: Eddie and Y/N experience a few bumps in the road trying to find their way back to each other.
Warnings: This is long. Mentions of getting sick, cursing, traumatic injuries.
"Dr. Y/L/N, your son just got here with his caretaker Carla." Missy, one of the secretaries for her office, announces through the phone in Y/N's office.
"Okay, I will be up there in a second. Thanks Missy!"
Y/N closes her laptop where she was finishing her last patients chart and stands to go up to the front of the office.
She opens the door and is greeted by Christopher's big smile as he comes over to meet her.
"Hi my sweet boy! Did you have a good day?" She asks as she squats down to his level and pulls him in for a tight hug.
"Hi momma!" He giggles, "I did, we got new word searches that we have to make for our English class and I brought supplies home to do it." Christopher replies as they pull away from each other.
"You did?! Well how about we do that later tonight once you've got some food in your belly, okay?"
Christopher nods and Y/N stands back up, a little too quickly, making her lose her balance a bit.
"Momma?" Christopher reaches out for her.
"Oh, Y/N. Are you alright sweetheart?" Carla asks and helps steady the woman.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I just haven't had a chance to eat today." Y/N makes up an excuse quickly.
Carla studies her for a second, trying to see if she's telling the truth, before letting it go. At least for now.
"Okay. Well, Eddie packed his bag for the weekend and he will be by Sunday night to get him."
"Okay great. Thank you Carla." Y/N gives her a hug and releases quickly so Chris can too.
"I'll see you guys later, have a nice weekend!"
"You too Carla, be careful going home!"
§§§
It's been two months of this.
Christopher going back and forth between two houses.
Only talking when it comes to Christopher. (Since Y/N had told Eddie to stop trying to be her friend. She didn't want them to be just friends. She wanted to marry Eddie, but he needed to work out whatever problems he had that he wouldn't let her help with before that ever happened.)
And it's been one month of pregnancy symptoms.
Y/N found out a month ago that she was five weeks pregnant with Eddie's child and since then she's been having a rough time.
"Mom?" Christopher's voice pulls Y/N out of her head as she continues down the road.
"Yeah Chris?" She replies.
"Did you fib to Miss Carla when she asked if you were okay?"
Oh shit.
"Well, not really. I haven't been able to eat since my granola bar I had for breakfast because I had a busy day at work."
"But you weren't feeling good last week either. You looked a little green while making hamburger for tacos." He points out. This kid is able to see through anybody, so of course he noticed. "I just don't want you to be sick momma. I can't lose you!" Christopher cries.
Y/N immediately pulls off into a grocery store parking lot and puts her car in park. She gets out and goes back to Christopher who's in his seat and engulfs him in a hug as best as she can.
"Christopher Diaz. You will never lose me, okay? And your mom may be in heaven, but she will always be in your heart and believe me when I say she loved you more than anything." She places their conjoined hands over his heart and presses a kiss to his head. "I know daddy and I aren't on the best of terms right now, but that's only temporary, okay? We still love each other very much, but there were some things that needed to get worked out before we could continue." Christopher nods, feeling slightly better hearing that his momma still loved his dad. "Chris, I promise that I'm okay sweetheart, some foods have just been making me feel nauseous. It's okay, nothings going to happen to me. I promise." Y/N sticks out her pinky finger and Chris wraps his around hers.
"I love you momma."
"I love you too my sweet boy."
§§§
"So, Karen is taking Denny and Nia to the pumpkin patch this weekend and she wants to know if she should let the kids get huge pumpkins or not." Hen says as she reads her wife's text messages.
"I say let them get huge pumpkins. I mean aren't the kids all going together? It could be fun and it gives them extra room to carve." Chimney replies as he takes a bite of an apple.
His statement peaks the interest of Eddie and Buck who are sitting on the couch watching a movie.
Hen gives Chimney a 'shut up, stupid' look and shakes her head no.
"The kids are all going together?" Eddie repeats, "What kids?"
"Well..." Hen trails off, "Karen and Y/N are taking the kids to the pumpkin patch and going back to our place afterwards to carve pumpkins."
"Oh, okay." Eddie replies.
"That's it?!" Buck asks.
Eddie gives Buck a weird look and shrugs.
"Yeah... Why would there be anything more?" Eddie questions.
"Because she's taking Chris somewhere and didn't let you know."
"If she wants to take our son on a play date to the pumpkin patch that's fine."
"But she's not really his mother and you guys aren't even together anymore and you won't say why, so why can she just take him somewhere without saying anything?!" Buck exclaims, standing up and pacing around.
"Not that my relationship problems with Y/N are really any of your guys' business but none of this is her fault. I have been shitty these last few months and she finally put me in my place and gave me an ultimatum. I either get my shit together or she's done, for good. I stopped doing what I was doing but I said stuff to her I can't take back, so I am trying to prove to her that I am still the man that she fell in love with, but I need to give her some space. And Christopher is her son. Maybe not legally yet, but he is. Shannon never even treated him the way Y/N does. And she's a great woman because she always tells Christopher that even though she's there she will never try to replace Shannon and she always makes sure he knows that she loved him." Eddie rants.
"That woman is way too good for this world and I'm trying my best to do everything right to keep her by my side." He sighs, "I am the one to blame for our problems, not her." He abruptly stands and makes his way into the bunk room.
Hen, Chimney, and Buck all share a look. And at that moment they all silently decided they will help bring Eddie, Y/N and Christopher back together.
§§§
The next few weeks were even more difficult. Y/N was starting to get emotional, and the sickness hadn't eased up at all, it had just gotten worse. She'd been getting sick at least three times a day and couldn't keep more than a few crackers and water down.
She knew what was going on, but she wanted to try everything before having to go to the last resort, which is IV fluids, and a NG tube. Y/N had been monitoring the baby's growth every week after she was done for the day and the baby was measuring smaller than normal for the gestational age, meaning her body wasn't providing her baby with enough nutrients.
Y/N had yet to tell Eddie, but she noticed Chris was getting more anxious because of her condition and suspected it would come out that she was pregnant soon.
§§§
Y/N finally was able to take a lunch break. Not that she would be able to eat, but she was laying down in her office, trying to rest.
Her phone dinging caught her attention. She picks it up and opens the text from Hen.
Hen-
Hey! Give me a call when you're not busy.
Y/N decided to just call her, since she wasn't doing anything at that moment.
"Hey Hen, what's up?"
"I was wondering how you were doing, Karen had said you weren't looking too hot at the boys play date the other day." Hen replies.
Y/N sits up on her couch and sighs.
"I'm okay, I must just have a stomach bug." She fibs.
In all reality she felt like she was going to get sick right then and there.
"Y/N sweetie, you know you can tell me anything and it won't reach Eddie's ears if you don't want it to, right?" Hen assures.
"Yeah, I know. I don't know what's going on. I think it might just be stress." Surprisingly Y/N had become a good liar since finding out she was pregnant. "I feel like I don't know how to talk to Eddie since that whole blow up when I told him I didn't want to be friends. I really love him, Hen. I want him to be my forever but I think he took it the wrong way."
"Wrong way, how?" Hen questions.
"Well I think he takes me not wanting to be friends as me not wanting him to talk to me or hang around. Sure, we both needed space but I feel like this isn't progressing." Y/N's sniffles can be heard, even though she's trying to stay quiet. "I'm just so tired Hen. I want my life to got back to normal. I want to go home." She cries.
"Oh Y/N. I'm sorry sweetheart, I wish I was there to give you a hug." Hen sympathizes.
"No, it's okay." She hiccups, then gets that sick feeling again. "I gotta go Hen, talk to you later."
She doesn't even know if the phone is hung up before her face is in her trash can.
§§§
Later that day Y/N was called down to the Emergency Room for a thirty-eight week pregnant woman who was in a car accident with a possible placental abruption.
She got down there at the same time as her patient arrived, unconscious, bleeding and barely alive. She pulled on some gloves and started giving orders to the ER staff and to the group of firefighters and paramedics bringing the patient in.
When Y/N gets into her zone she doesn't pay attention to the people surrounding her, so she didn't notice that her patient was brought in by her friends at the 118.
She gets the ultrasound machine and places the wand on her patient's stomach. Her eyes go wide and she quickly places it back where it goes.
Then her patient flatlines.
"Cardiac arrest, start CPR." Dr. Elliott, the Trauma Surgeon says.
Y/N rounds to the head of the bed, while one of the nurses starts compressions.
"Intubation kit, push Etomidate, and someone please try and shift her uterus to the left. She's got a complete abruption. Call up to the OR, we will be doing a crash C-Section." She orders.
Meanwhile, Eddie is standing off to the side with his hand on the patient's husband's shoulder and admiring the love of his life, doing what she does best.
He does notice the paleness and green tint to her skin though. She looks like she hasn't been taking care of herself and it breaks his heart.
All he wants to do is hold her and never let go. He doesn't want to push her, but he's ready to have his family back together. He's ready to continue to prove to her and their son that he is still the same man that they love.
It was a long surgery, but Y/N was able to save both the mother and the baby. She had to perform a complete hysterectomy to save the mother, but in the end everyone will make it.
After telling the new dad that his wife and baby girl were both going to be okay she stepped into the elevator to go up to her office and finish some charts.
She closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the wall, the adrenaline crash and the motion making her dizzy and nauseous. Then the elevator stops, causing her to open her eyes and the door opens to reveal Eddie.
He steps on and presses floor seven, the floor to her office.
"Hey." He greets.
Y/N rolls her head towards him, "Hi."
After a few beats of silence Eddie turns towards her and sighs.
"Y/N, I really think we should talk."
Y/N sucks in a breath and nods.
"Yeah, we should." She agrees.
The rest of the elevator ride is silent, and so is the trek into her office.
Her staff was gone for the day, so the lobby was dark until the motion sensor lights turned on.
"Is it really that late?" Y/N asks as she checks her watch.
"Yeah, it's eight-thirty."
"God, it's going to be a long night." She grumbles as she makes her way down the hall and into her private office.
The first thing she always sees when she opens her office door is a framed picture of Christopher, Eddie and herself at the firehouse. It always makes her smile, but lately she finds herself longing for that again.
She glances at Eddie and sees that he is also looking at the picture.
"Y/N..." He trails off, "I've worked through my problems and I'm ready to talk about it. And I'm hoping that you will want to try again." He admits. "I promise you I will spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to you. I know what I said and what I've done was wrong and it hurt you, and I am so sorry. Everything that has happened caught up to me. I felt numb and I didn't want to drop all of my problems on you, so I tried to deal with it myself, in a stupid way." Eddie continues, and Y/N starts to notice the tears pooling in his eyes.
She grabs his elbow and guides him closer to her.
"It was so stupid Y/N. So, so stupid and I'm so sorry. I can't believe I put you and Christopher through this. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He apologizes.
All of a sudden Y/N starts to feel lightheaded and her heart starts beating too fast. She loses her balance and grabs onto Eddie.
"Y/N? Are you okay?" Eddie straightens up, now worried about her.
"Ed-." She breathes. "I'm pregnant." Then she becomes dead weight.
Eddie looks into her eyes as they roll back and close and brings her to the ground gently.
"Y/N?! Come on baby, wake up please!" He tries to get her to wake up, but it doesn't work, so he takes his coat off and places it under her head, before going over to her phone and dialing the number to the nurses station in the ER.
When it finally picks up his heart jumps.
"Hello? This is Eddie Diaz, Dr. Y/L/N has gone unconscious in her office and I need help! Please send somebody up with a stretcher!
"Mr. Diaz, is Dr. Y/L/N breathing? Does she have a pulse?"
"Yes. She does. She's just not conscious, we were talking and she said she was pregnant and went unconscious. I don't know if she's been having any issues, she just told me. She has been pretty sick the past month or so though." He rushes, "Just please send somebody up here to help me bring her down to the ER." He begs.
"Okay Mr. Diaz, I'm sending a couple of nurses now."
"Thank you." He hangs up the phone and goes back over to Y/N. He lifts her head up and slides underneath her to keep her propped up.
His eyes land on her face. Now up close he can see that her face is sunken in, pale and overall just not her normal glowing and cheerful look.
Eddie's eyes then trail down to her stomach. There is no sign of a bump and she should have one with his mental calculations of how many weeks along she is.
She had to be in the second trimester by now.
§§§
Y/N ears started to ring as she came to. She knew where she was because of the bright light shining down on her. She grimaced as she opened her eyes and took a deep breath.
As soon as she set up a tiny bit she felt the urge to get sick, and frantically looked for a bag or literally anything.
Thankfully there was a bag sitting on the side table and she grabbed it just in time.
Eddie had been asleep in the chair against the wall until he heard her.
He jumps up and goes over to her to hold her hair and rub her back.
"It's okay mi amor." He soothes.
When the sickness finally lets up Y/N lifts her head.
"God I hate this so much." She cries.
One of the nurses walks in after hearing movement and smiles.
"Dr. Y/L/N I'm glad to see you're awake. That sickness is still kicking your butt isn't it?" She asks as she takes the bag.
"Yeah it most definitely is. It's more than morning sickness though, I am ninety-nine percent sure it's Hyperemesis Gravidarum." Y/N says.
"I would say so." The nurse agrees, "I'll send the doc in and if you guys need anything just press the call button okay?"
They both nod and then she walks out.
Eddie immediately turns to Y/N.
"So how long have you known?" He asks.
Y/N sighs and looks down at her fingers.
"For about ten weeks." She admits.
"And how far along are you?"
"Fourteen weeks as of two days ago."
Eddie chuckles and runs a hand through his hair.
"So were you going to tell me or were you just going to show up with our baby one day?" He pushes.
Y/N stares at him for a few seconds trying to figure out if he's serious or not.
"Of course I was going to tell you Eddie! Things obviously haven't been going well the past few months and I quite honestly didn't know how to bring it up." She cries.
Eddie sighs and nods, agreeing that the last few months haven't been easy. He places his hand over hers and squeezes.
After a few moments of silence he finally speaks.
"Y/N, I want you to come back home, and I want you to take a leave until the baby is here and you're ready to come back."
Y/N immediately shakes her head no, "Absolutely not. I've got patients, I can't just drop them."
"You've got fellows who you've been training. They can take over for now and you can oversee their work until you come back."
"Eddie-." Y/N starts.
"Mi amor, you're a doctor. What would you tell your patients to do if they were in your position." Eddie tries to reason with her.
Y/N leans back in the bed and stares up at the ceiling, trying to think of a way to do what she wants. Even though she knows he is right.
"Y/N."
She turns her head to him and reluctantly nods.
"What are we going to tell Chris?" She whispers.
Eddie smiles, and leans in to press a kiss to her cheek.
"I think he already came to this conclusion himself. He's mentioned wanting a sibling a few times the past couple of weeks."
Y/N chuckles and turns over onto her side to face Eddie.
"He's too smart for his own good."
"That he is."
§§§
Eddie unlocks the door before leading Y/N inside with a few of her bags they got from the apartment she had been renting.
Buck is sitting on the couch watching TV while Christopher is knocked out on the couch.
"Hi Evan." Y/N smiles, passing him to go put away her medicine.
"Hi." Buck returns.
He glances at Eddie who is setting the bags down on the other couch.
"What happened?" Buck asks.
"Well, it's a lot to explain." He starts, "But I will tell you now. Y/N's pregnant."
"What?" He whisper yells. "How far along is she? She's not even showing."
"Fourteen weeks. And that's the long story, but it's late so I will explain later."
Buck gets up and brings Eddie into a bear hug.
"Congratulations Eddie."
"Thank you, Buck."
After a few more minutes Buck heads home, leaving the small family to themselves.
Y/N walked into the living room with a pack of crackers and water to see Eddie picking up Christopher to get him in bed.
"Momma." Christopher's sleepy voice calls as he rests his head on his father's shoulder.
Y/N smiles and walks over to him.
"Hi my sweet boy. Are you going to bed?"
"Can I go to bed with you guys?"
Y/N turns to Eddie to get an answer. Eddie, knowing Y/N can't say no to Christopher, nods in agreement.
"Yeah, we can make it a family sleepover." She says and runs a hand through Christopher's curly mop of hair.
"Chris, before we do that we need to tell you something." Eddie starts.
He shifts Christopher to where both he and Y/N can look at him and gestures to Y/N.
"Momma, is everything alright? Are you okay?" Chris rushes.
"Yeah sweetheart. I'm okay." Y/N grabs his hand and squeezes. "So, the reason I've been sick a lot here lately is because dad and I are having a baby. You're going to be a big brother."
Christopher perks up and a huge smile graces his face.
"Really?"
"Yes really. And mom is going to be off of work until after the baby is born." Eddie adds.
"So mom and I can hang out after school!" Christopher excitedly exclaims.
"We can definitely hang out after school." Y/N laughs and presses a kiss on Christopher's cheek.
"We're glad you're excited, Chris."
He nods at his dad and then looks at his mom.
"Can it be a girl? I really want a sister."
Y/N laughs, "We'll see. We can find out next week hopefully."
Eddie smiles at his family and brings Y/N into a hug with Christopher and himself.
"I love you guys so much. Don't ever forget that."
Forty-Eight Hours [Evan âBuckâ Buckley]đ
Description: Buck tries to tell Y/N about his feelings before her date in 48 hours.
Warnings: Mentions of a house fire.
"Buck, where is the extra wrapping paper?" Y/N asks as she walks over to him from their storage closet.
"Uh-. Check in Bobby's office." He suggests. Y/N nods and heads upstairs.
Chimney and Eddie, who are standing on the other side of the table share a glance.
"So, when are you going to ask Y/N out?" Chimney asks.
Buck rolls his eyes at his friends.
"Really guys?"
"Evan, come on. You need to get over Abby. Y/N is a good girl, and she's already good for you. Just open yourself up."
"I just don't want to mess up. I like being friends with Y/N and I don't want her to leave." Buck says as he rips some tape off of the roll.
"Y/N isn't leaving Buck. She just bought a house, she's staying." Eddie points out.
Buck yet again rolls his eyes. They're right and he knows it.
Hen walks into the bays with more gifts under her arms.
"Wow, who donated those?" Buck asks, changing the subject.
Now it's Eddie and Chimney's turn to roll their eyes.
"Oh, they're actually from Y/N. She adopted a family this year and wanted to wrap the gifts while she was at work since they need to be dropped off right after shift." Hen explains, "There's more in her car if you guys want to help bring them in!"
Buck smiles and shakes his head.
"Yeah, it's unlocked right?"
Hen nods and continues towards the empty table.
The guys all walk out to Y/N's car.
"I love this kid, she's an angel in human form." Chimney says.
"Yeah she's definitely got a heart of gold." Eddie adds.
"I know what you guys are doing." Buck huffs.
"Yeah? Is it working?" Eddie asks as he opens the passenger door. He pauses for a second before a smile breaks out on his face. "Guys, look at that." He points to her dash, right under the speedometer.
It's a picture of Bobby, Eddie, Hen, Chimney, Buck, Christopher and Y/N last summer sitting on the front of the truck.
And another one of Buck and Y/N at fire prevention day.
"She has a picture of us in her car?" Buck asks.
"Seems so." Chimney claps his shoulder and rounds the back of her car.
"Evan, seriously. You need to ask her out. And I wasn't going to say anything but she's got a date the night after shift ends, so you've got forty-eight hours to find your balls and do what you want to do." Eddie says bluntly before going to help Chimney, leaving Buck to his thoughts.
"Oh shit."
§§§
Buck had been trying to talk to Y/N, but of course they've had back to back calls and there wasn't any time.
Y/N and Hen had just got back from a medical assist for a trauma patient, and Buck was waiting for them.
"Hey guys, how'd that call go?" He asks as the girls get out of the ambulance.
"It went okay, the guys probably won't make it due to his injuries though." Y/N says as she goes to the Medical Storage cabinet.
"That's too bad." Buck replies walking over to her, "Y/N, I wanted to talk to you about something-."
"All Units, Structure Fire." The PA system from dispatch cut Buck off.
"Shit!" Y/N grabs everything she needs and throws it in the back of the ambulance. "We'll talk later Buck."
Buck sighs and jogs over to the Engine.
Eddie comes up beside him and pats him on the back.
"You just need a Christmas miracle Buck. You'll talk to her." He encourages.
"Not at this rate, I won't."
"You've just got to believe." Eddie jokes.
"I can't believe I'm going to miss my chance because I was too stupid to say anything before." Buck complains as he takes his seat in the truck.
"Miss your chance at what?" Bobby asks.
Buck groans and puts his head in his hands.
"Y/N has a date after shift, in now forty hours and Buck is realizing he should've said something to her about his feelings before. He's trying to tell her before her date but they've had back to back calls." Chimney explains as he puts on his gloves.
"Buck, you should've told her way before now!" Bobby scolds.
"I know, thanks!" Buck replies sarcastically.
"Talk to her as soon as this is over with. You two are good for each other and I don't want you guys to miss the opportunity." Bobby says.
All Buck can do is shake his head and hope that he's not too late.
§§§
It was a horrible fire. The family lost everything and Y/N was so upset.
"I hate this universe. That is so unfair." She seethes.
Buck had walked over to the ambulance to talk to her but he immediately knew now wasn't a good time.
"Hey guys," He says to catch Hen and Y/N's attention, "You two okay?"
Y/N and Hen both have a frown on their faces, but nod their heads.
"This is just so unfair that this happens. I feel horrible for them." Y/N whispers, "I just wish there was something I could do to help, even just a little bit."
Buck can visibly see how upset Y/N is. Her voice is a tad scratchy and she's got tears in her eyes.
He's not surprised though, as she is one of the most kindest, caring and strongest people he knows. Though, all he wants to do is wrap her in a hug.
"It's Christmas, this shouldn't be happening." Y/N finishes before slamming the back door to the ambulance and going to get in the front seat.
Buck and Hen share a look.
"Maybe there is something we can do."
§§§
Y/N had been sitting in her bunk with her tablet since they got back from the call. She hasn't said anything or gotten up.
Her adopted family had been watching her through the glass for a while before she perked up and finally moved from her bed to the door.
At first she hadn't noticed them, causing her to jump when she walked through the door, but she got distracted she saw Hen standing there.
"Oh good, you're already here. I want to take a ride to Walmart in a few hours, okay?" Y/N doesn't give her time to finish before going back into her bunk.
The group just stands there, shocked by that interaction.
"What the hell is she getting up to in there?" Chimney asks, before walking to the common area.
"Should we tell her or just surprise her?" Hen asks Buck.
"I think we should surprise her."
§§§
Y/N had dragged Hen with her to pickup a Walmart order and bring it back to the house. Her mood had brightened and she wasn't as upset anymore.
Bobby walks into the common area and stops when he sees bags full of stuff like clothes, hygiene and household essentials and even some fun things like toys and entertainment items.
"I thought we were done wrapping presents for the toy drive?" He asks, breaking his silence.
Y/N looks up and shrugs.
"This isn't for the toy drive."
"So, what is it for?"
"It's for the family from our structure fire today." She mumbles.
Bobby nods and comes closer to the table and picks up a toy.
"Would you like some help?"
Y/N smiles and nods, "Yeah Captain, I'd like that."
So, they wrapped all of the presents and placed everything else in bags for the family to use while everyone else in the house slept.
By four in the morning Buck was just itching to tell Y/N what he did, but first he needed some coffee, so he headed to the kitchen.
But Buck wasn't expecting to find his Captain and Y/N passed out on the couches in the living area and tons of wrapped boxes and bags full of items scattered around.
He stops for a second before going over to Bobby and tapping his shoulder.
"Hey Cap?"
"Yeah?" Bobby asks, still asleep.
"What happened in here?"
That makes Bobby shoot up and look around.
Seeing that everything was fine and it was just Buck be laid back down.
"Y/N got all of this stuff for that family. So, I helped her get it ready last night." He pauses to yawn, and looks at Y/N. "Wake her up and make her go lay down in her bed. Her neck is going to be hurting." He says before getting up to go start a pot of coffee.
Buck goes over to Y/N and places his hand on her arm gently.
"Y/N, you need to go sleep in a bed. Not on the couch with your neck all twisted." Buck whispers.
Y/N opens one eye before shaking her head no.
"I'm too tired to move." She complains.
"Okay, so I will carry you. You don't need to be sleeping out on the couch." He argues.
Y/N rolls her eyes before sitting up.
"Okay." She whispers.
Buck places one arm around her and the other under her knees before lifting her up, into his arms. Once he's sure he's got a good grip on her he starts walking down the hall.
The journey is silent until she's being placed on her bed.
"I wish that didn't happen to them Buck. They are such good people."
Buck nods in agreement before stopping and staring at Y/N for a few seconds.
"Y/N?"
"Yeah Evan?"
"I am in love with you."
"I'm in love with you too."
Evan's heart stops for a second. He can't believe she said that.
He shakes his head, she's probably not even awake, so he shouldn't take it seriously.
He squeezes her hand tightly before standing up and walking out of the room.
§§§
Buck couldn't stop thinking about his encounter with Y/N earlier. His coffee had gotten cold because he hasn't touched it.
Buck is brought out of his head by Y/N walking into the living area.
"Good morning Buck!" She says.
"Good morning Y/N."
She walks past him and into the kitchen to grab one of her yogurts. She stops abruptly once she can see out the window.
"What is this?" She asks.
Buck stands up and walks over to her.
Outside there is a bunch of people, coming to donate food, household supplies, old clothes, anything you can think of really.
"This is for the Vasquez family. We set this up after we were done." He starts, "I got them set up at a house until they can get a new one or rebuild their house. They will be here in a few minutes actually."
"Are you serious?" She whispers.
"Yeah. You inspired this." Buck says, "You have a heart of gold and your Christmas spirit is unmatched. It's nice, especially in this line of work."
Y/N smiles and drops her eyes to the ground, scared to meet his eyes when she says what she's going to.
"I really am in love with you, Evan Buckley. I know I was half asleep when I said it this morning, but I really do love you."
Buck lifts Y/N's chin up and leans in.
"That's a good thing, because I'm in love with you too."
He leans in and presses a soft kiss to her lips.
They pull away and Buck sighs, "What about your date after shift?"
"What date after shift?"
Silent Night [Eddie Diaz] đ
Description: Eddie and his family spend Christmas Eve together and no nonsense is welcome.
A/N: This is sort of a additional part to "Prove It To Me"!
"Come on Chris. Letâs go get ready for bed." Eddie says as he notices Chris nodding off on the couch trying to watch National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
Chris groans and sits up, rubbing his eyes.
"I want to see my baby first." Chris replies and grabs his glasses off of the side table.
Eddie helps his son off the couch and nods, "Momma took Hadley upstairs because she was getting fussy. If sheâs awake you can see her, okay?"
Chris nods and Eddie picks him up to go up stairs. They turn into the nursery to see Y/N sitting in the rocking chair reading Hadley, who is smiling and cooing back at her mom, a book.
Eddie knocks on the door and comes in, putting Christopher back on the ground once he was by the chair the girls were in.
"We came to say goodnight." Eddie says, leaning down to kiss Y/N's forehead.
Y/N smiles and shifts the baby so there is room for Chris in her lap.
"Do you want me to read you both a book before bed?"
Christopher nods eagerly and Y/N wraps her arm around him to pull him into her lap.
She turns to the beginning of the book and says the title.
Eddieâs phone rings, causing everyone to turn their attention to it.
There had been a major incident and there was a possibility firefighters would get called in, unfortunately.
Eddie sees that his Mother is the one calling, so he groans.
"Dad, you donât have to go to work do you?" Christopher asks, disappointed.
"No buddy. Itâs your abuela. Iâll be back in a few minutes, okay."
He exits the room and answers his phone.
"Hello."
"Edmundo, itâs your mamĂĄ. I was wondering when you were going to bring your family home. The baby has been here for two months and we have yet to meet her."
He knew that this was coming. Sheâs trying to con him into moving back.
"MamĂĄ, her name is Hadley. Y/N canât just pack up and travel first of all, sheâs a doctor. Second of all weâve been short staffed at work so thereâs a chance that I could get called in at anytime. Third, we are trying to keep Hadley contained to certain places and people. Flu season is running rampant and we arenât willing to take any chances with flying." He tries to explain.
"Well what are we supposed to do? We canât see our granddaughter? Itâs not fair that you took of with Chris and now we canât even meet her. Does she not like us or something?!" Eddie sighs and rolls his eyes, trying not to blow a gasket.
"What do you mean?"
"Your babies mother. Does she not like us?"
Eddieâs ears are steaming and he slaps his hand on the railing around the stairs.
"My daughters name is Hadley and my childrenâs mothers name is Y/N. Why canât you say their names?!" He exclaims, "Y/N has never met you, why would she have a reason to not like you? Did you do something that makes you not like-able?" He pushes.
Eddie couldnât figure out why his parents could never say Y/Nâs name. Itâs almost like they think they are above her and everyone else.
"Edmundo! How dare you speak to me that way!"
"How dare you call me on Christmas Eve, my babyâs first Christmas Eve and try to ruin my time with my family! Call me when you guys can grow up and acknowledge that Christopher isnât coming back to you and I have moved on and created a life for myself out here." He hangs up his phone and runs his hands over his face.
After a moment Eddie looks at his watch and notices that itâs Christopherâs bedtime, so he makes his way back into Hadley's nursery.
A soft voice comes from the room, causing him to stop in his tracks.
"Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace." Y/N sings, rocking her kids to sleep.
Eddie pokes his head in the room and smiles at the sight.
He knows he did something right now. Y/N is perfect and so are their kids.
"Silent night, holy night. Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar. Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia. Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born." Y/N continues as she runs her hand through Christopherâs hair and rubs his neck.
Eddie continues to watch, just melting at the sight of the people he loves the most.
"Silent night, holy night. Son of God love's pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face. With dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth." She finishes.
Y/N presses a kiss to both kiss heads and sighs, leaning further back into her chair.
Eddie finally comes into the room and sends her a bright smile.
"Youâre amazing." He says.
Y/N giggles softly and shrugs.
"What can I say? Iâve got a natural touch."
"You most certainly do." He walks over and presses a quick, but sweet kiss to her lips.
"Is everything okay with your mom? You sounded pretty upset out there?" She asks quietly.
Eddie nods and lifts Christopher out of her lap.
"Everythingâs okay. My mom is just being rude."
Y/N frowns, knowing she is the cause of it.
"Iâm sorry that I canât just go on trips without much notice, but you and Chris could go if you guys want. I donât want to hold you back from seeing your family." She offers, getting up to put Hadley in her crib and make sure her monitors are hooked up.
Eddie shake his head no. "Absolutely not. This is my family." He circles his finger around the room, "And if my parents canât accept that and respect our wishes and choices, I guess theyâre not my family." Eddie says.
Before Y/N can say anything he walks out of the room and into Christopherâs room to put him to bed.
Y/N sighs, but stays with Hadley a little longer to make sure sheâs okay for the night.
Eddie eventually makes his way back in and wraps his arms around Y/Nâs waist so she can lean back into him.
"Iâm not going to let them walk all over us and disrespect us at all. Iâm tired of it happening and it wonât happen to you, Hadley, Christopher or myself anymore. I will cut off all contact and ties with them if I have to. Iâm finally happy, Iâm not willing to risk this."
Y/N turns around in his arms and wraps her arms around his neck.
"I love you, Eddie. Thank you for sticking up for us."
"Always, mi amor."
A/N:Â Ngl this was entirely inspired by my desire to have someone in my life who surprises me with gold star stickers, that desire was inspired by a text post on here that says âIâm a gold star bisexual. The gold star has nothing to do with my bisexuality, Iâve just been very good today & I deserve it.â Anyway, hope you enjoy the fluff. Much love to all! Requests are Open!Â
P.S. I just want a couple of gay besties that let me be a child every now & then... is that too much to ask?
--- Your POV ---Â
    As I hop down out of the fire truck and trudge up the stairs to the coffee maker, Buck lovingly greets his boyfriend Tommy who has stopped by for lunch before they follow me up. In my sleep deprived and pissed at life state, I completely miss any and all other interactions. Truth be told the only reason I even noticed Tommy is here is because he ruffled my hair when I passed them.Â
    I'm pouring what feels like my thousandth cup of coffee since breakfast this morning when Buck leans against the counter beside me, "How many cups of coffee is that today? I think you've set a new record."Â
    From the table, Eddie looks up and raises his own mug of coffee, "Uh uh, I've got that record set at seven," before going back to his phone.Â
    I roll my eyes, "This is number eight, Eddie. Nice try." He only shakes his head and takes another sip.Â
    Leaning against the counter across from me, Tommy's eyes nearly pop out of his skull, "(Y/N)... that's way too much coffee for one day."
    I shrug and make my way over to plop down on a couch and drop my head back to rest on the cushions. I am soon joined by Buck beside me and Tommy who takes a seat on the coffee table. I pout at him which makes him chuckle, "What are you pouting about?"Â
    I playfully stomp my feet a couple times, "I was gonna put my feet there."Â
    Buck nudges me, "Just do what I do," before propping his feet up on Tommy's thigh. I look at Buck's boots and then mine before shrugging and resting mine on Tommy's knee. Tommy simply shakes his head and they strike up a conversation.Â
    Before long, Cap is calling us all to the table to eat. As soon as I sit down, I flop my head over onto my forearms. To my right, Eddie sighs, "Why haven't you been sleeping?"Â
    Without lifting my head, I shrug, "Between working doubles, insomnia, and noisy neighbors I just can't."Â
    To my left, on the other side of Buck, Tommy tuts, "Do I need to dope you up with Benadryl?"Â
    I lift my head finally as Buck scoops food onto a plate in front of me, "Please don't. I still owe the hat man money and even with all these doubles I can't pay him yet." Everyone at the table shakes their heads this time. They all know how bad my insomnia gets at times, so they're pretty familiar with my sleep deprived state. What they're not familiar with is the thoughts that keep me awake at night and create a void that should be filled by sleep. I always just blame the insomnia on something less concerning.Â
--- Third Person POV ---Â
    That evening as Buck and Tommy make their way into their apartment, Buck is concerned, "Do you think there's anything we could do to help (Y/N)?" Â
    "Well, she vetoed my suggestion of Benadryl, so not really," Tommy responds as he shuffles through the mail in his hands.Â
    Buck wanders off to the bedroom to change, raising his voice a bit so Tommy can hear him, "No, I know we can't really help with the insomnia. Me and Eddie already tried. I mean to like cheer her up."Â
    Tommy enters the room as Buck is exiting to make dinner, "I don't know. Did you have something in mind?"Â
    Buck is still thinking, tomatoes on the cutting board in front of him, when Tommy joins him in the kitchen. Saying nothing, Tommy grabs a knife from the knife block, holding it out in front of his distracted boyfriend. Buck snaps to and takes the knife to begin cutting up the tomatoes, "I can't really think of anything. I was hoping you had some suggestions." Tommy retrieves two beers from the fridge, cracking them both open before leaning against the counter beside Buck to take a sip of one, placing the other beside the cutting board. He takes a few more sips as he thinks. Â
    Tommy has noticed how similar you and Buck are in the somewhat short time he's known you. He's noticed that a lot of the things that spark Buck's interest also spark yours and how you both get excited over similar things. He has an idea of where to start, "What's something that would instantly brighten your mood on a rainy day?"Â
    Buck grins, "Seeing my hot pilot boyfriend but I don't think that would cheer (Y/N) up as much as it would me."Â
    Tommy chuckles, shaking his head, "No, silly, something someone could give you or do for you," he clarifies, quickly adding, "regardless of who it is and something we could also do for (Y/N)." Buck is quiet for a moment before mumbling something that Tommy can't quite make out, "Baby, speak up please."Â
    Buck takes a deep breath and sets the knife down. He turns to Tommy as he picks up his beer and takes a sip before repeating, "Gold stars."Â
    Slightly surprised, Tommy tilts his head, "What do you mean?"Â
    Buck smiles wide, "When I was little Maddie used to give me little gold star stickers whenever I did well on a homework assignment or test, even for not-so-great grades like Bs and Cs. I always kept the stickers because for some reason they made me feel really happy and proud."Â
    Tommy is unsure, "So, you're suggesting we give our friend, who's a grown woman mind you, gold star stickers to cheer her up?"Â
    Tomatoes forgotten, Buck sets his beer back down and insists, "Yes! She'd love it, I swear. One time on a callout she was taking care of a little girl while her mom was being bandaged up. The little girl was coloring the whole time and chatting to (Y/N) about what she was coloring and all kinds of other stuff.â Tommy has to dodge as Buck talks with his hands, âWhen it came time to leave, the little girl ran up to us as we were heading back to the truck. (Y/N) squatted down to see what she needed and the little girl stuck a unicorn sticker to her shirt pocket and then yelled, 'Thank you' as she ran back to her mom. I've never seen (Y/N) smile that big before." Â
    Tommy thinks he's done but before he can even open his mouth to respond, Buck gasps, "And remember that time a bunch of us went to the beach? She had been wandering up and down the sand randomly picking stuff up and then when Maddie yelled at her to see if she wanted to go get ice cream, she ran over to us and was super excited to show us all the sea glass and shells she had collected in her shirt."Â
    Tommy decides to make sure this time, "You done?"Â
    Buck thinks for a second, placing his hands on his hips, "That depends. Are you convinced that we should stop and get gold star stickers before you drop me off at work in the morning?"Â
    Tommy laughs as he answers, "Yes, Evan. We can stop and get gold star stickers in the morning." Â
    The next morning, Buck directs Tommy to a local craft store where he had recently helped Chris buy stuff for a school art project. The two make their way inside but have to ask for help finding the stickers. Tommy chooses to ignore the judgmental look on the little old lady's face since Buck very clearly misses it, too busy craning his neck to see if he can spot what they came for. She leads them toward the back of the store and points down an aisle full of stickers. Tommy notices her shake her head as she walks away but is quickly distracted by the golden retriever stuck inside his 6' 2", muscular, firefighter boyfriend.Â
    Tommy smiles brightly as he watches Buck make his way down the aisle, scanning for and collecting any sticker packs with shiny stars in them. When he returns to Tommy, bouncing with excitement, his hands are full of different sticker packs that he shuffles through to show him, "Which ones do you think she'd like most?" There's all different sizes and colors of stars, some have other sticker shapes mixed in; others are very clearly marketed toward teachers who use them to reward young students. Â
    Tommy places his hands over Buck's to stop his indecisive shuffling, "Let's start by eliminating any that aren't just stars." Buck shuffles through and hands the rejected packs to Tommy who quickly puts them back where they belong. When he returns, Buck has tucked a few packs under his arm and is staring back and forth at the three remaining packs in his hands.Â
    "Whatcha got?" Tommy asks looking down at the stickers. He finds that Buck is trying to decide between a pack that has only gold stars in varying sizes, a pack that has rainbow-colored stars that are all the same size, and a pack that has different pastel-colored glittery stars in a few different sizes. Â
    "Yeah no," he says as he gently removes the glitter stars from Buck's choices and places them back where they belong. He knows you'd kill them for giving you the craft herpes that is glitter and to him you don't really seem like the pastel type. When he turns around to rejoin him, Buck is already heading toward the front. Â
    When he finally catches up to Buck, he's handing both the gold and rainbow packs to a younger cashier who smiles brightly when she sees them, "Aw these are cute! Are you getting them for your kid?"Â
    Buck laughs softly, "Uh no, just- just trying to brighten up a friend's day." She smiles at him and nods as she rings them up. She gives him the total as Buck taps his card on the pin pad. Once the receipt shoots out and Buck collects the stickers, the two make their way back to the Jeep to head to the 118, deciding that Buck could hang onto the gold stars and Tommy could man the rainbow stars. Somehow, they still make it there before you.Â
--- Your POVÂ ---
    After yet another night of tossing and turning, I trudge into the fire house like a zombie looking for brains, except I just want coffee. I make my way to the locker room, change clothes, and head upstairs b-ling straight for the coffee maker. My path is blocked by Buck and Tommy who are both leaning on the counter in front of the wonderful machine of caffeinated goodness with their arms crossed looking like they were expecting me. I join them and attempt to shove them out of my way but they won't budge. Instead, Buck turns his back toward me and pours coffee into a mug before facing me again and holding it out to me.Â
    I take it gratefully and enjoy a sip before they both reach up and stick something to my forehead. Bewildered, I look up toward my hairline before deciding I don't have it in me to give a shit right now. I plop into one of the chairs at the table, stickers still on my forehead, and drop my chin into my palm. "Did you get-" Eddie looks up from his phone and grins. His eyes cut behind me where Tommy and Buck are approaching, "Who's idea was that?" he asks pointing at my forehead.Â
    Tommy takes a seat beside me, sipping his own cup of coffee, "Let's see, maybe the one who can't sit still," he smiles as he points his thumb behind us at Buck who is bouncing on the balls of his feet, "because he's too excited to see her reaction when she sees them."Â
    I look back at Buck whose smile is so big it looks painful. Sighing I pull my phone out and open the camera. There I find two stars on my forehead; one is rainbow and the other is slightly bigger and gold. I can't help but smile so big it probably matches Buck's as I look back at him again. He does a little happy dance before getting very close to Tommy's face, "I told you she'd like them." I quickly snap a photo in which you can clearly see the two stars on my forehead as well as Buck and Tommy, who are still in very close proximity, smiling at each other before putting my phone away. Soon a conversation picks up as Buck sits down on the other side of me. Â
    At some point I decide that I need to find some paper to keep my stars on because I can't exactly walk around all day with my face covered in stickers, Buck has added two more since the first two. I also can't bring myself to just throw them away either. Having no luck elsewhere I make my way to Bobby's office and knock softly. He answers and when I open the door, he laughs, "Whatcha got there?"Â
    I look up toward the stars and smile, "Gifts from Buck and Tommy. I was wondering if I could have a piece of paper to put them on." Â
    Bobby nods, handing me a sheet of printer paper, "Of course," and as I turn to leave, peeling the stars from my forehead and placing them on their new home, he adds, "It's good to see you smiling again (Y/N)."Â
    I give him a big smile, "Thanks, Cap."Â
    A little while later, Tommy is heading out to go grocery shopping and clean up their apartment. Eddie and I follow as Buck is walking Tommy out. Tommy stops when he notices me. He backtracks to me as he pulls his sticker pack out of his back pocket. After placing a new sticker on the tip of my nose, he hands the pack to Eddie, "Hit her when she least expects it." Eddie nods, watching as I remove the sticker from my nose and add it to my collection with a big smile on my face. Tommy ruffles my hair before rejoining Buck at the door and heading out.Â
    Throughout the rest of the day, Buck and Eddie take their sticker duties very seriously. At one point, from upstairs I notice them over by the engine whispering to each other. When they catch me watching, Eddie sassily shoos me away with sticker pack in hand making Buck laugh heartily. Not long after that, I am bombarded by not one, not two but six star stickers. Each one from a different member of the team. Â
    After a particularly grueling call out, I sit with my head leaned against the window. In my peripheral, I notice Buck and Eddie make eye contact and nod at each other before both of them reach in their pockets, pick out a sticker, and slap them both on my forehead. Every chance they can, they are stickering me. I walk around the corner coming from the bathroom, sticker. I pour myself a cup of coffee, sticker. I'm helping Hen take inventory in the ambulance, sticker. Every single sticker makes me smile.Â
    By the time Tommy arrives to pick Buck up that evening, I'm pretty sure Buck and Eddie are both out of stickers and my printer paper is getting full. As we are walking to our vehicles, Buck rushes over to meet Tommy, who is leaning against the door of his jeep, before we can and whispers something to him. Tommy's face breaks into a big smile. I'm dropping my bag into the passenger seat of my Bronco when Tommy places what feels like a big sticker right in the middle of my forehead, "Buck said he saved the biggest one for me since I wasn't here all day like they were."Â
    I grin and look around at my three friends, "Thank you guys. You genuinely made my day," I look down at the paper in my hands as I peel the newest star off my forehead and place it with the others, "I don't think you realize how much this means to me." Â
    Tommy ruffles my hair, "Anytime, kiddo. Besides, I don't think you realize how much joy this whole thing has brought Evan." We both look at Buck who is grinning as wide as humanly possible. Â
    Buck pulls me into a hug, "If you ever need a star sticker day again, just say the word." I nod as he pulls away.Â
    Eddie places his hand on my shoulder, "He's being dead serious."Â
    I laugh, "I know. I will." With that, the four of us are parting ways and heading home. On my way home, all I can think about is how happy I am to have such amazing people in my life. Often, the most prominent insomnia inducing thought at night is that of loneliness. I've spent hours lying awake at night wondering if I actually have people who care about me or if they just let me hang around because they pity me. I wonder if I even deserve to have them around. After a day full of stickers, I truly believe that my team genuinely cares about me. Why else would Buck and Tommy get up early to buy star stickers before work? Why would Cap smile so big just because I'm smiling. Why would everyone get such a kick out of getting to put a sticker on my face? They care about me and I care about them. They mean the world to me. They are my stars.Â
