Alright Fuckers, Strap In. Were Going For A Ride.

Alright fuckers, strap in. We’re going for a ride.

Sangheili biology and my assumptions about what those qualities mean.

The Sangheili (Elites) only have a top jaw. And as far as I’ve observed they don’t have tongues. However, observable doesn’t mean shit when it comes to biology. Depending on “how canon” you see the books, the Sangheili allegedly store their tongues in their throats. The tongue also stretches as far out as their “lips”.

This denotes a possible lack of a gag reflex but we’re going to set that aside for now. Just settle for the mental image that the Sangheili are capable of swallowing large prey whole.

Instead of a bottom jaw the Sangheili use the mandibles as a substitute. These mandibles are full of rows of sharp teeth. Due to the number of teeth I’m going to make a safe assumption that Sangheili teeth regrow constantly. This may or may not be the same case for the teeth they have on their upper jaw.

These mandibles are also required for speech, but possibly not all that strongly. And obvious example being Rtas (Shipmaster), who speaks clearly despite the damage to both of his left mandibles.

Given the tongue is stored in the throat, the lack lips, and the lack of a lower jaw, I believe it’s also safe to assume that Sangheili have a much much more complicated set of vocal cords that partially rely on the mandibles for manipulation.

Due to the comparative extra load the throat has to bear their throats are likely extremely strong and thick muscled. Not as easy to cut through as you might assume.

Sangheili legs are digitigrade. This leg style gives them advantages in speed and energy recovery/conservation when running. However, it also decreases their balance. I wouldn’t outright say it is easy to knock them over, but it is easier than someone with plantigrade legs.

Also, I’ve seen the opinion that the Sangheili have scales but…

That doesn’t look like scales to me. Sure, they have those protrusions peppering their head, but outright calling them scales seems incorrect. They seem more like spines or keratin deposits. Perhaps their skin functions like tortoises, scaly in some areas but leathery in others.

Just for a last bit of fun I did a bit of light reading about whether or not the Sangheili have any serious advantages on us due to having two thumbs. My general understanding has come to that: they would if their thumbs weren’t symmetrical.

In order for two thumbs to actually be useful, as there are animals with that double thumb structure, the thumbs need to be specialized for different tasks.

As always, this kind of thing is totally open for discussion. If I’m canonically wrong, please correct me. I’d love to learn and improve. Also headcanons, if you’ve got one that fits this kind of post. Please share! I’d love to hear it!

I will literally never get over these two being perfect compatible opposites.

Knockout: Being gentle, trying not to damage the cars. Lifting them by the undercarriage which is usually reinforced so it can be raised with jacks or hydrologic lifts. Even grabs the tires to pull himself up so he doesn't scratch their paint.

I Will Literally Never Get Over These Two Being Perfect Compatible Opposites.

Breakdown.
