Finally had the inspo to write my first oneshot! Enjoy!

“Lovesick Fool(s).”

Pairing: Shadow x Sonic.EXE (X)

Description: A small story telling the details of how two hedgehogs fell in love.

Their first encounter was nothing short of what Shadow would consider to be “normal”.

Eggman decided to attack, and who did he bring with him?

A new lackey.

Of course, Shadow thought it would be an easy fight, just like how easily he had defeated Infinite the first time he met him.

But, there wasn’t even a fight at all.

The “lackey”, a blue Hedgehog Mobian looking very similar to Sonic except for slightly darker quills, black sclera, and bleeding, red eyes, didn’t attack.

They just seemed…fascinated.

Meanwhile, as soon as the Faker, Sonic, showed up, the bloody-eyed Hedgehog immediately started attacking the hero.

Shadow let Sonic fight his own battle as Shadow managed to scare Eggman off while scoring the white Chaos Emerald in the process.

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog disappeared not long after, but Shadow was…sad to see them go?

No, more like…disappointed?

Why did he feel this way about another of Sonic’s lookalikes?

Shadow decided to ask Rouge about it a few days after the fight.

“Rouge, is it…“normal” to feel disappointed after the enemy leaves?” Shadow had asked.

“You’re gonna have to elaborate, hun.” Rouge replied. “What happened this time?”

“The doctor brought along a new lackey. I didn’t catch their name, but…” Shadow started before shaking his head. “They didn’t fight me. We just stared at each other until the blue menace showed up.”

“Ooh, seems Egghead’s little hench-Mobian has a crush on you~” Rouge teased.

“Wh- Crush?!” Shadow asked, his face housed a green blush.

“I wouldn’t say that for su-ure, but I would keep an eye out for any signs.” Rouge stated. “Call me if I’m right!~”

Rouge quickly flew off, leaving Shadow to his thoughts. He knew close to nothing about romantic relationships. Hell, his only experience with love was with Maria, and even then she felt like a sister to him more than anything else!

Shadow sighed, this was going to be difficult…

…

Their next encounter was a lot less dangerous.

Shadow was traversing through Sunset Forest on the hunt for a possible Chaos Emerald, having been told by Tails it was in that general area.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), the bloody-eyed Hedgehog was there too, presumably hunting for the emerald either for Eggman or for some sort of personal reason.

Shadow grumbled, not wanting to have to fight, but just like last time, no such fight ever occurred.

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog seemed to be curious seeing the ebony one there, as they were looking with either admiration or confusion.

Either way, the bloody-eyed one, instead of trying a surprise attack like the ebony thought, seemed to pull out a small wrapped box from their quills, holding it out for Shadow to take with both of their hands.

Shadow was…skeptical, to say the very least, expecting it to be a bomb when he roughly took it and ripped it open (to which the bloody-eyed Hedgehog watched curiously), when instead, it was a soft, knit, light-red-colored hoodie, having looked like it took weeks to make.

“Did you…make this?” Shadow asked, to which the Hedgehog nodded to. “For me?”

Another nod.

Shadow eyed the hoodie carefully, checking for any sort of tracker, only to find it was a genuine gift.

“This isn’t some sort of trap, is it?”

The Hedgehog shook their head “no”.

“A diversion?”

Another head shake.

Shadow, albeit still hesitantly, slipped the hoodie on, nearly gasping from just how soft and cozy it was. But he suppressed it, just slightly feeling the material with his arms.

“…Thank you.” Shadow muttered. “You’re not so bad, for one of Eggman’s lackeys.”

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog blushed at Shadow’s words, before giving him two thumbs ups.

Shadow spots the Chaos Emerald near him, and picks it up, not expecting a fight.

“I’ll…see you around?” Shadow asked.

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog nodded rapidly, goofily grinning, though it seemed creepier than expected due to their sharp teeth. Shadow chose to ignore this fact, however, and Chaos-Controlled away.

…

Their third meeting was at Rose’s Bakery, a little place Amy had opened up with the help of Vanilla and Cream after the Metal Virus had hit. Shadow had to admit that it was a cozy spot.

Shadow was sitting at one of the outside tables, eating a slice of dark chocolate cake, when he spotted the bloody-eyed Hedgehog again. The Hedgehog noticed Shadow, too, and ran over to him at a human-like speed with a small grin on their face, waving.

“Hello to you too.” Shadow said, just barely having stopped a small smile from showing.

The bloody-eyed one pointed at the chair across from the ebony one, tilting their head to the side as if asking if they could sit, which Shadow nodded to.

They took a seat with a smile, but the smile quickly faded when some of the other guests ran away screaming from seeing them. They looked down at the ground with a sad look.

Shadow didn’t know why at the time, but it killed him to see them so sad. So, he struck up a conversation.

“Y’know, I…never got your name.” Shadow stated.

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog’s ears and face perked up hearing that, and they moved their arms to an “X” shape.

“Is that hinting that your name is X, you don’t have a name, or you don’t want to tell me?”

The bloody-eyed Hedgehog holds up one finger.

“The first one?”

They nod.

“X, huh? Name’s Shadow.”

…

Their last unexpected encounter happened right in one of Eggman’s bases.

Eggman had just captured Shadow in order to use his Chaos Energy for his newest robot, the “SoniCrusher 2000”.

“Let me go if you know what’s good for you, Doctor.” Shadow threatened.

“Oh ho ho, and why should I do that, you pesky rodent?” Eggman asked. “You’ll be no threat to me once I harvest that Chaos Energy of yours!”

Eggman goes to hit a button, but to his (and Shadow’s) surprise, nothing happens.

“What the- BLASTED MACHINE!” Eggman yelled.

He pressed it again, and it actually worked that time, as Shadow felt excruciating pain as most of his Chaos Energy was zapped, bit by bit, until Shadow fell to the ground, his vision going black, only seeing a grey pair of shoes before passing out.

When Shadow awoke, he was in a bed underneath a red-colored blanket, feeling more energized than before.

When he sat up, he looked to the side, seeing X sleeping while sitting up, seemingly exhausted.

“X? …How long have they been here?” Shadow asked himself.

Shadow gently shook X’s shoulder, which caused them to stir, their eyes opened slowly before locking onto Shadow, their pupils dilated before they quickly hugged Shadow, embracing him as if he-

As if he had almost died.

“Woah, X, I’m alright.” Shadow reassured as he hugged their back.

“…almost…died…” Shadow heard X mumble.

“Did…Did you just talk?” Shadow asked, in disbelief.

“Wanted to…surprise you. But…danger came. Eggman…nearly killed you.”

“X…” Shadow muttered.

The two break the hug as X looks away, embarrassed.

“I…love you, Shadow. I…wanted to say that for a while.” X muttered. “You don’t have to-”

Shadow cut them off by kissing their cheek, which caused their face to turn red and their pupils to be shaped like hearts.

“Idiot. I love you too.” Shadow stated, his face green.

“Heh…guess we’ve always been lovesick fools, haven’t we?” X asked.

“Yeah…I guess we have.”

Second oneshot, woo-hoo!

“First Date”

Description: Shadow and X decide to go on a date, but each place they try seems to not work…I wonder why?

Shadow taps his fingers against the table he’s sitting at outside Rose’s Bakery with an annoyed expression, leaning on one of his hands as he checks his watch.

“They’re late…Why must that be the thing they have in common with the Faker?” Shadow asks aloud, to no one in particular.

Shadow seems to be wearing the red hoodie X had gifted to him, smiling slightly as he remembered when it was given to him.

Shadow gets cut out of his train of thought seeing X in the distance, them quickly rushing over to the table before hunching over, hands on their knees, catching their breath.

“You good?” Shadow asks, and X nods, standing back up straight, sitting on the chair across from Shadow.

X and Shadow share a quick smile but they both quickly fade hearing some citizens scream from seeing X.

X’s ears lower involuntarily and they sigh.

“Never going to get used to that, huh?” Shadow asks. “Took me a while to get used to it, too.”

“Shadow, as much as I don’t mind you bringing your partner here, they’re scaring away the customers…” Amy mutters after opening the door. “Could you two, maybe…have your date elsewhere? Please?”

X’s ears lower more but they sadly nod, getting up from their seat and clenching their arms. Shadow lets out a sigh, also standing up.

“Fine then. Come on, X.” Shadow states, gently holding X’s left hand as he pulls them away from the table. “Chaos…CONTROL!”

The two are suddenly teleported to a public park, specifically the one in Sunset Park Zone.

X looks around the place for a moment, taking in the sights.

“Nice, isn’t it?” Shadow asks, causing X to nod happily with a grin on their face. Shadow lightly chuckles at their enthusiasm. “C’mon. We have a lot to see.”

The two walk for a while, taking in the sights, before their peaceful time is once again interrupted, this time by the tons of stares they’re receiving.

“…Uncomfortable…” X mutters, clenching their arms, their ears down.

Shadow’s ear flicks and he growls.

“CAN’T YOU FUCKERS MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS?!” Shadow yells, causing X to flinch.

Everyone quickly looks away, and Shadow loudly sighs.

“Forget this fucking place, let’s go somewhere away from the public.” Shadow states.

X silently agrees, nodding slightly as Shadow Chaos-Controls them to a secret area, specifically a hidden spot in the Rainy Savanna.

“…Nicer.” X mutters with a small smile.

Shadow mirrors X’s expression, and the two take a seat under the trees, letting the rain gently hit their quills.

The peace, again, doesn’t last long, as it suddenly starts pouring down rain, soaking the two hedgies.

Shadow quickly teleports them back to his and Rouge’s shared apartment, grumbling once there.

Shadow’s face quickly becomes one of concern, though, when he hears X quietly starting to sob.

“X, what’s-”

“‘m sorry…” X mumbles, sniffling slightly

“What do you have to be sorry for?” Shadow asks, wiping away some of X’s tears as X mutters, “I…ruined our date…”

“X, none of what happened today was your fault.” Shadow says, gently caressing X’s cheek with the hand that was wiping away their tears just a moment earlier.

“But…the public-”

“The public screams at anything they don’t understand.” Shadow states, cutting X off. “Trust me, none of this was your fault.”

“…Cuddle…?” X asks meekly.

“After we dry off, then yes. We can cuddle.” Shadow says with a soft smile.

After the two dried off, they spent the rest of the night on the couch, cuddling under a blanket while watching Chao In Space 2.

…At least, until Rouge got home and scolded Shadow for forgetting to clean up the puddle that accumulated under the two while Shadow was cheering X up.

Let’s just say that the two decided to have dates away from the public from now on…

Finally decided to post this, sorry for the long wait!

- Exebright, Exeray, and Exefar are all siblings (though Exefar is adopted, that doesn't matter much though)

- Exeater and Exeveler are cousins

- Exebright and Exeater are ex-partners

- Exehost and Exebright are dating

- Exerver, Exever, and Exemper are all in a poly relationship

- Foen is Forgo's adopted brother

- Candy and Foen will not be accepted for romantic requests

- Once you ask about a character I can say their species, how they look, and a bit of their backstory

- I will only do angst and fluff in these oneshots
