Song #79

Never Love an Anchor by The Crane Wives

It was released on August 29, 2015

Fun Fact: In “Never Love an Anchor,” the narrator ruminates on being unable to care for their child. The titular metaphor compares the narrator to an anchor weighing down a ship (their child). The song is one of the more popular on this album, based on Spotify streams and fan engagement.

Song #73

Classic by MKTO

It was released on June 20, 2013

Fun Fact: “I wanna thrill you like Michael” probably refers to the Michael Jackson song “Thriller.” He wants to keep her entertained and excited on a date, like in the music video of “Thriller” They want to have a special, unpredictable relationship. “I wanna kiss you like Prince.” Believe it or not, this refers to a song by Prince, called “Kiss.”  “Let’s get it on like Marvin Gaye.” Marvin Gaye has a song called “Let’s Get it On.” Needless to say, it’s about…getting it on.

Song #75

Pomegranate Lips by Derivakat

It was released on May 6, 2022

Fun Fact: “Pomegranate Lips” is the first one of Derivakat’s era of songs not related to Minecraft, let alone the Dream SMP. In the following months, she would go on to make covers on Japanese and English pop songs, songs about VALORANT, and another song based on books on ancient history, titled “Eden.”

Song #69

Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos

It was released on October 16, 2015

Fun Fact: The soldier embodies an undying fight for justice and truth, while the poet epitomizes the beauty of emotions, words and sentiments. The king is the embodiment of righteousness, leader of all the virtues, and defender of integrity. The song’s lyrics come directly from The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. It speaks of how faith gives us strength, reminding us that we don't have to choose between being soldiers for justice or being poets. Instead, it is a call to be both. With faith and moral courage we can do hard things, bringing justice and beauty into this world. (this isn't a confirmed meaning but best I could find- Mod Secret)

Song #67

Wellerman by Nathan Evans

It was released on January 21, 2021

Fun Fact: Known as “Soon May the Wellerman Come” or “The Wellerman,” the sea shanty from New Zealand dates back to 1860. A long song with lots of lyrics, the song likely provided a great deal of meaning and accompaniment to long days in the country as shore whalers hunted their giant sea mammals for flesh and oil. The title of the song is a reference to supply ships owned by the Weller brothers, who were some of the earliest European settlers of the Otago region of New Zealand. In 2021, Nathan Evans earned a viral hit on  TikTok for his cover of this song.

Song #71

I'd Rather Sleep by Kero Kero Bonito

It was released on September 30, 2013

Fun Fact: The song probably deals with mental illness (possibly depression), the discomfort felt by child while growing up and the struggle to regain the sense of innocence lost once you become an adult. The simplistic language used through the song is quite possibly a way to express the idea of the childish idealization of sleep and trying to escape reality.
