Song #79

Never Love an Anchor by The Crane Wives

It was released on August 29, 2015

Fun Fact: In “Never Love an Anchor,” the narrator ruminates on being unable to care for their child. The titular metaphor compares the narrator to an anchor weighing down a ship (their child). The song is one of the more popular on this album, based on Spotify streams and fan engagement.

Song #65

Canary in a Coal Mine by The Crane Wives

It was released on September 22, 2012

Fun Fact: Canaries were historically brought into coal mines in cages by miners, because if there were toxic gases such as carbon monoxide in the mines, they would kill off the canaries first and allow the miners to leave. A “canary in a coal mine” is thus a warning sign of danger. In this song, the singer shoulders the danger and pain faced by her partner, and suffers as a result.

Pomegranate Lips by Derivakat

Fun Fact: “Pomegranate Lips” is the first one of Derivakat’s era of songs not related to Minecraft, let alone the Dream SMP. Song #67

Wellerman by Nathan Evans

It was released on January 21, 2021

Fun Fact: Known as “Soon May the Wellerman Come” or “The Wellerman,” the sea shanty from New Zealand dates back to 1860. A long song with lots of lyrics, the song likely provided a great deal of meaning and accompaniment to long days in the country as shore whalers hunted their giant sea mammals for flesh and oil. The title of the song is a reference to supply ships owned by the Weller brothers, who were some of the earliest European settlers of the Otago region of New Zealand. In 2021, Nathan Evans earned a viral hit on  TikTok for his cover of this song.

Song #69

Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos

It was released on October 16, 2015

Fun Fact: The soldier embodies an undying fight for justice and truth, while the poet epitomizes the beauty of emotions, words and sentiments. The king is the embodiment of righteousness, leader of all the virtues, and defender of integrity. The song’s lyrics come directly from The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. It speaks of how faith gives us strength, reminding us that we don't have to choose between being soldiers for justice or being poets. Instead, it is a call to be both. With faith and moral courage we can do hard things, bringing justice and beauty into this world. (this isn't a confirmed meaning but best I could find- Mod Secret)
