I have this headcanon that Pete can only sleep when he can FEEL Vegas being alive next to him.

Like hearing him breath - even if it's easy and deep and regular and undisturbed - is not enough. Pete needs the physical touch. He needs to feel the lasting warmth of Vegas' body, the unyielding beating of his heart, the unfaltering rise and fall of his chest.

So alive, so alive, not dying, not bleeding out, not dead. Not. Dead.

His own hand becomes his anchor, always attached to Vegas' body, especially during the rough sea of the early hospital nights. It turns into a habit he can't shake, not after Vegas starts healing, not after he dares to sleep in Vegas' embrace without the worry of aggravating his wounds, not even after they start using the hours of darkness for more pleasurable activities again. (Or the hours of early morning, of noon, of afternoon, or any given time, really, if they're in the mood.)

His hand (after it's unbound, more often than not) unintentionally finds its way to Vegas' chest; and it stays there, anchoring, soothing his anxiety, soothing this nightmarish fear that never quite leaves him. Not dead.

Little does he know...or maybe he does know that this touch is just as anchoring for Vegas as it is for him. It's the reassurance that Pete didn't leave, that Pete doesn't want to leave, that he's loved and not alone. Not alone.

Pai may be a Kinnporsche baby, but he absolutely learned how to read people from his Uncle Vegas. That kind of emotional IQ? That’s the sort of thing that could be used to, say, manipulate someone into loving you so much they decide to kidnap teenagers and blow up warehouses over you. I’m sure Kinn and Porsche have something to do with the way Pai ultimately uses his skills for good rather than evil. But no way did Pai learn how to read people like he does - skillfully enough to notice Sky’s trauma and course-correct as early as he does, then walk the line that allows him to be just as pushy as Sky needs him to be, all while realizing that Sky needs someone who can take what he dishes out and not abandon him - from Kinn “I would make a good decision but I’m tripping over my emotions like they’re my own feet” Theerapanyakul or Porsche “What?” Kittisawasd. I love them both, but lbr, it’s a good thing they’re pretty.

All I can think is that Venice dragged his beloved cousin around enough that Vegas finally looked at this poor kid, recognized innate talent, rolled his eyes, and taught him some necessary skills to surviving a Mafia family.
