just thinking about how short of time joel and ellie really had.

it was really only just a handful years when ellie was a teenager. but, holy fuck, did they love during that time. they loved and they loved and they loved. but what is that going to mean in ten years? in twenty? when she’s old and gray and joel’s age? will she remember him? will she remember the love? or will it still be overshadowed by grief? will he be anything more than a fleeting thought here or there? a passing memory? how long before she can’t even recall his voice or what he looks like?

how deep will joel’s love go? how long will his memory last?

i can SO CLEARLY imagine his expression watching ellie do things like try to fix her hair and tug at her clothes and be just SO self-conscious without even realizing that she’s doing it 

i can just visualize joel smiling slightly watching ellie be young and in puppy love and so not sure but still so hopeful 

and like. there’s a part of him that fears her getting her heart broken. but also being SO happy that she still gets to do things like be a teenager with a crush bc she DESERVES to have her highest worry be “do they like me back??”
