I'm rereading KotlC to cure myself (it's not rly working because Flashback exists), and I'm at the beginning in Legacy when Sophie is at Fork Man's "secret office" sharing how he knows the Neverseen are going to overthrow the dwarves next.

Onto my theory:

In present time, they've overthrown the ogres, trolls, and dwarves. That leaves us with the goblins and gnomes.

I'm assuming they'll go for the gnomes first because of no reason I think?

And then they'll go after the goblins since the council has goblin bodyguards, and then try to overthrow the council as the rest or the intelligent species are overthrown

(if the Black Swan fails to stop the Neverseen that is.)

I know the Neverseen's plans better than the Black Swan-

Keefe returning after Unlocked, him and Sophie stopping for a second just to look at each other, and then just him hugging Sophie, and not wanting to let go

Sophie wanted to punch him. He probably deserved it after all the sleepless nights, muffled cries, and tantrums (they needed to be called that - she’d broken a pencil or two out of rage) Sophie’d had to endure because of him.

But she couldn’t.

So, then, she wanted to preach to him. Pour out her heart on a platter, let him see all the bruises he’d beat into her, show him all the cracks he’d left in their foundation, reveal the gape he’d carved in her life.

But she couldn’t.

Another want was to run. He didn’t deserve closure when he’d stripped it away from her. Keefe didn’t deserve an apology or an ‘I missed you’ or anything, as far as logic was concerned. A large part of her wanted to turn and walk away while she still could. She wanted to leave the past in the past and continue moving on like she’d been doing for weeks.

But she couldn’t.

Sophie’s fist wouldn’t clench, her mouth wouldn’t unscrew, and her legs refused to move.

“...Hi, Foster.”

Sophie choked on a sound. He had croaked it, like the name hurt to speak.

Sophie could see the tension in his body, from the way his nails dug into his palms and his legs planted his feet sturdy on the floor.

She couldn’t take this. No matter how pissed she knew she should be, it all flushed out when his eyes landed on her face. She’d missed him. She couldn’t count the nights she’d spent longing for his return, mourning the fresh absence he’d left in her life.

Without a word, Sophie strode forward until she crashed into him. She wrapped her arms around him, knowing he wouldn’t take the first step. Knowing he wouldn’t dive in unless he knew she was willing.

At first, Keefe stiffened, but only a mere second later he melted, scooping her flush against him. “Hi,” he repeated, sounding more choked and garbly. “Hi, Foster.”

She shuddered when he ran a hand down her back. All those weeks of hatred for nothing. All those weeks of promising herself she’d moved on, down the drain.

Sophie couldn’t say she exactly hated it. Whether she liked it or not, she needed him.

And he needed her.

“Hey,” she rasped. She sniffled, blinking back the tears burning in her eyes.

“I’m... I...”

“Later,” Sophie said, already knowing what he was trying to say. “We can talk about it later.”

Keefe made a muffled sound that trapped itself in his throat before he buried himself into her hair. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say it, but I... I missed you, Sophie.”

Sophie sobbed, tears slipping down her cheeks. She fisted her hands into the back of his shirt, burrowing her face into his shoulder. Her own shook from her uneven breaths.

“I m-missed you, too,” she hiccuped. “I... I hate you...”

“I know,” he whispered, squeezing her tighter. “I know...”

Her lip trembled. “Don’t let go,” she whimpered.

Keefe shook his head. “Not yet,” he agreed, “not yet.”
