i love the constant-ness of Mike as the truly alone character. Like, he was the only Black kid in his town, with no one to turn to with his experiences. he was the one who had to stay behind and remember it all, alone. He was the only one with no partner and no riches, alone. Even the fandom makes him alone, paying almost no attention to him. And even in this group of losers he is very much alone, because they still can’t understand his experiences to the point that he does. Even when he is still very young, his dad dies, and his dad was someone he connected with so much and felt truly close to. It’s all so interesting to me. It makes his relationship with the losers so much more, and I like how it doesnt entirely define him either. He’s still a librarian, he’s still a historian, he’s still everything he’s done and every way he’s grown, it doesnt define him and Stephen King and he himself don’t let it define him.
