You’re right - it is! I inadvertently ended up writing mostly about the Bronx Zoo for a few reasons: 1) Not so much a reason, but I’d like to point out that I do talk about Claire from the Queens Zoo 2) I’m a New Yorker, born and bred. I’ve been to the New York zoos more recently and more frequently than any other zoo. Therefore I can speak from experience. 3)
I've done some digging into the past of the Bronx Zoo (the history and he design) and I'm more familiar with that information.
3) Basically, I have information about an organization that I've known and trusted since I was a kid (woohoo - zoo camp!)
4) Though I'm a big fan of the WCS I was a bit disappointed by the Prospect Park Zoo, which is why it is not mentioned. While it does try, it is not as successful as the other two I mentioned.
5) I, like you, am a little bit tired and for whatever reason felt it necessary to write this out as a long list when it can probably be said much more concisely. The moral of the story is: yes. I only use one (or one group of examples). BUT I would love to get input about other zoos! I invite you to add more info and more sources! Teach me about other zoos! Demand I visit other zoos! Order me on a zoo-hopping road trip across the country! (That actually sounds kinda awesome...)
I originally wrote all this as a response to something I reblogged earlier, but decided that it deserved its own post.
Yes, there are bad zoos out there that keep animals in sub-standard conditions solely for the purpose of human entertainment. But you know what? From…
do you think somewhere out there, there’s a dusty attic
and in that attic there’s a painting of the first misogynist to call himself an MRA, covered by a sheet
and every time some nerd on the internet is abusive toward women, the person depicted in the painting becomes decayed and withered
because i think that must be the case
i think somewhere out there is the painting of fedorian gray
Damn; you’re right. There is no context given for these images, nor are sources provided. Despite the positive message intended by the original poster, this photoset is woefully uninformative (and I didn’t even realize until you pointed that out). Do any of you guys know how to read brain scans; what areas are being highlighted and how are they relevant to the disorders? Does anyone know anything about the source material?
"The brain can get sick too."
