I know EXACTLY how Doc would come out, too:

He does one of those Most Google Searched interviews, and one of the questions is something along the lines of "Is Jesse Hudson married?"

And he answers something along the lines of "No, but I am in a relationship with my lovely partner. I couldn't be happier with anyone else."

The fact that he was purposely and repeatedly keeping it gender neutral is a little alarming, but it's cool, maybe he's trying to be progressive.

He repeats this again, though, after that's a question like "Is Jessie Hudson with Louise Nash?" (He's obviously like "No, she's like my sister, but there were 100% rumors back in the day you can't prove me wrong.)

This starts some speculation.

Later, June rolls around, and he tweets something in support of the community and says something like "As a gay man myself" in it in between races.

He promptly turns off his phone and refuses to answer any questions.

Damn, now I really need to read/write a fic where Louise hits on Doc back in the good ol’ days and he comes out to her, and for one second he’s scared she’s going to tell everyone and ruin his career, but then she’s actually cool with it and keeps his secret for years, even after he’s dead, always saying that “he didn’t like fast women” when someone asks her about it.
