nothing sadder than a piece of media making a girl who clearly more than anything else should be a dyke and then going out of their way to make sure the audience knows how interested in men she is. many such cases
It’s funny how, if you really really want, mash can be a completely cohesive epic narrative about recognizing yourself in that which you hate and simultaneously breaking beyond repair while becoming your true self through the power of love and friendship all while confronting your own role in the imperialist machine. But also if you don’t actively want it to be that, it’s literally not that at all and this is an insane thing to say
So here’s a little thing I noticed while watching In the Shadow of Two Gunmen. In the flashback to when Josh first meets Donna, he tells her, “This can’t be a place for people to come to find their confidence and start over.”
The irony is that that’s exactly what the campaign was for all of them.
C.J. had just been fired from her job in Hollywood.
Toby had been on an electoral losing streak for years.
Sam was becoming disillusioned with providing litigation to multibillion dollar companies, and when he started trying to do the right thing, they threatened to fire him.
Leo was rebuilding his life and his career on the other side of rehab, and he was experiencing his own disillusionment with politics, because nobody believed a good man could be elected president anymore. He got Bartlet into the race to change that.
Josh was working a campaign for a guy who wasn’t the real thing, and he knew it, and he wanted to do something more, something worthwhile.
The campaign helped all of them find their confidence and start over.
the scene in the crackpots and these women where Josh is standing in front of a target listening to Ave Maria talking about how he doesn’t want to be saved while his friends aren’t. When he will in fact be targeted when his friends are saved and he will be so traumatized from nearly dying that he will associate music with sirens and nearly have a breakdown listening to another piece of classical music. Aaron sorkin when I find you.

so true
fuck it. houlifield fancam

There was always this very glamorous problem that I had, and I know the other writers inherited it, which was that there were so many mouths to feed on the show. Every week you felt like you were shortchanging someone. That was the case with Toby and CJ in the first couple of episodes. (…) Toby and CJ, when the series first started off, those were the two most under-fed roles on the show… Richard and Allison were the first two people to win Emmys for the show. – Aaron Sorkin Toby Ziegler and CJ Cregg in season 1 of The West Wing
Growing up is actually all about realizing people don’t inherently dislike you and it’s a bit odd to assume they do
