So my guess is that the theme of Metaphor Refantazio is that fantasy can inspire change in the real world. That's why there's so much focus on the protagonist's fantasy book, a vision of utopia which will presumably inspire the protagonist to become elected king on a platform of equality.
Metaphor Refantazio itself is a work of fiction, and More's question in the beginning is basically "can works like this have an impact in the real world"?
The emphasis of the game centering on an election is like the game telling you that yes, democracy can lead to change. Which is interesting, since hasn't Japan's conservative party been the ruling one since the 50s? Then in a way the "fantasy" that is inspiring the player is that elections will change the status quo.
Love, love, looove Medalist. Honestly goes way more hype than most shonen battle manga, I'm screaming for these little kids to make their jumps. Having a really clear scoring system and constant high stakes scratches that itch for me, and the characters are excellent too.
STOHL HAS A FIRST NAME!? IT'S ACTUALLY STROHL, NOT STOHL!? WHO TF IS LEON!?
I played SMTVV and then SMTIV duology, and thinking back on SMTV I am so much less engaged with its world because outside of D'aat it's just modern day Japan again. Like yeah there's supernatural forces and the apocalypse is happening but the default is the masquerade. Even the stuff like the prime minister of Japan is Tsukuyomi you can't do much with because all that knowledge is limited to inside Bethel.
Asahi has this really cute, hero worship senpai-kouhai thing going on with Isabeau. She saved her life, she's so strong and cool, Asahi wants to know more about her, Miss Isabeau! Great potential for Asahi and Isabeau to go off on their own with Asahi nursing a crush. Make them share a tent and have Isabeau gush to Asahi about Rose of Versailles. "But I think you're just as amazing Miss Isabeau, can't you see how you've inspired me?" Bedrolls right next to each other, leaning in close so they can read under the same lamp, Isabeau's heart thumps as she realizes how close Asahi has gotten...
Asahi's a gungho go-getter kind of girl, does she have what it takes to sweep Miss Isabeau off her feet?
