i do think that tsoa is a great book with lots of its own merits but i also think the reception of it, particularly from booktok, is interesting.. a lot of the nuance seems to have been stripped away to focus on achilles and patroclus as their ‘gay babies!!’ and it’s now being held as the most accurate interpretation of the iliad because it presents patrochilles ‘accurately’ unlike other interpretations which is ‘done by homophobic historians’. like it’s a good book but it’s not trying to be a translation of the iliad from greek to english play to book it’s a modern adaptation of it and it frustrates me to see people ignoring other facets of the book in favor of patrochilles. can’t have shit huh
