Not enough empurata related Tarn angst :) I headcanon that the Decepticons just gave him a generic MTO face for his reconstruction.

Since you mentioned Tarn and Rodimus have a Care-Giver and Sparkling relationship going on it has given me a silly idea on how it happened.

The DJD attacking the LL and Tarn has cornered Rodimus ready to snuff the spark of the so called prime. Rodimus in a panic tries to swing a punch at Tarn's mask but his hands land on the side of Tarns head holding him firmly by the sides. Tarn however goes ridged and his optics widen to the point they cover half of his mask, then he starts sniffling before he beings to bawl and whimper. Roddy is convinced he broke the purple tank but for what ever reason his carrier coding senses a sparkling in distress and is demanding Roddy to comfort the (Fully Grown) Bitty.

When back up arrives the crew is expecting a heavily wounded Captain or a singed Tarn, but what they see is Tarn perfectly curled up on the floor with head in Rodimus's lap all the while Roddy is gently cooing and petting his head like a carrier.

Everyone was 100% confused that day.

Whoever you are, you have a wonderful & beautiful brain and yes.

This keeps Ravage from dying and this is how Rodimus gains an adult sparkling thats a murder baby but its his murder baby.

They have to learn to share Roddy with his partner too.
