College is like a continuous circle of stress, tiredness, joy at getting a good grade before falling back into stress. It’s been like this for four years, and you’re beyond glad that this is your final year before you can finally be free of the confines of a classroom.

Your parents had already been querying whether you might want to continue on and do a master’s degree, considering your single history degree to not be good enough to get a good job. Which was ridiculous, because even though you weren’t sure what job you wanted - you were sure that history was the one subject that you hated the least out of everything.

So no, you would not be subjecting yourself to a further year of of stress and unhappiness. Particularly as you’d have even less chances to fail than you did in your four years of college until now. You and college hadn’t co-operated very well on the education front, so you really weren’t inclined to put yourself through even more. Probably the only saving grace of your college life had been your friends.

Coming from a small town like you had, you had never interacted with any predator shifters as they simply hadn’t existed in your town. Your town had consisted of the more fearful prey shifters and humans with the majority being either deer or rabbit shifters. Which was fine when you needed pleasant neighbours, but not so much for actually growing into a well rounded person.

As such, you’d grown up practically afraid of your own shadow and it had only been when you’d entered high school in the next town over that you’d finally been introduced to predators. Even so, they had only been dog and cat shifters. Back then it had been a point of pride that you’d got used to the dominance battles they had all the time, but entering college had been a shock to your system.

It had taken some serious convincing with your parents to let you attend the state college instead of the local community college in the city closest to you. You’d desperately wanted to experience the world outside of your insulated community, and the real world involved apex predators. If you couldn’t handle living and studying with them, then you could kiss goodbye to a job working with them.

Which of course meant you’d spent the first two months in college firmly inside your room, terrified to leave as you’d had a tiger shifter to your right and a wolf shifter to your left. It had only been a month after this that the wolf shifter, Jisoo, had dragged you out finally to try and convince you that she didn’t want to eat you.

Slowly becoming friends with her had meant becoming friends with her pack, who she had moved in with in her second year. You’d stayed in dorms for the whole four years, unable to find another prey shifter who was willing to live with you and unable to live with predators.

But her friends had proven to be nice and respectful, being careful to not play too rough or engage in too many dominance battles that would have you running away. If you’d told yourself five years ago that your best friends would be wolf shifters, you’d have laughed all the way home. Yet here you were, wedged between Jisoo, a black wolf, and your other best friend Jimin, a silver wolf.

When Hoseok had told you, “I’m in apartment 2E, feel free to drop by whenever you’d like”, he’s not entirely sure what he had in mind in terms of how you would follow through on that request. But this isn’t exactly what he had in mind.

All he knows is that he has a difficult time trying to develop a grasp of diction as he stands in the doorframe of his apartment, gripping the doorknob with a bit more force than necessary, staring at the figure standing opposite of him. You are just as stunning as he remembers, the only thing that is different about this particular encounter is the fact that you look as if you have just stepped out of some winter wonderland catalog given with how many coats and scarfs you have drowned yourself in.

And you look positively adorable in it.

He swallows, forcing himself to stop staring at the way your lips are covered by the scarf, the way your wide eyes are studying him, the way you also look so soft and vulnerable which in turn makes him soft and vulnerable. He tries for a smile, but he doesn’t have to try for the surprised quality in his tone as he opens his mouth. “H-Hey Y/N, what are you doing here?”

You just couldn’t help but stare at the adorable tiny baby that was on one of the ads of your favorite magazine that you get weekly. The newborn was being cradled in his mother’s warm embrace as she was rocking him to sleep in the rocking chair that was being promoted. 

Turning to the next page, another baby, but a bit older. You pouted in adoration seeing a wide toothless smile on his face and the excited spark in his eye as he sat in his high chair waiting for his mother to feed him some strawberry and banana Gerber. You knew the baby fever would hit you someday, but you didn’t think this soon. You and Namjoon were not too young, 26 to be exact, but still young to handle little versions of you two running around the house and destroying everything if they came out like your Joonie. Would you be ready? Would Namjoon be ready? Does Namjoon even want a kid now?

And you were definitely no stranger to the shuffling that was Jung Hoseok valiantly attempting to make his entrance discreet (but you’re smiling anyway).

“I know,” Hoseok calls from the hallway after having shamelessly let himself in (Yoongi distributes the passcode to your shared apartment almost as if he was giving out free samples outside Taco Bell), “But help a guy out, it’s V-day and I don’t wanna lament my singlehood alone.”

based off of the premise of the movie TiMER (2009), or at least the world in that movie. I wasn’t going to write this but @xhixtape made me want to flesh out my idea. I never write angst, I hope this is enjoyable.

Hoseok wakes to a beeping, checking his phone through groggy, fuzzy eyes, before he remembers the little piece of metal in his right wrist, embedded into his skin a little over a year and a half ago. As soon as the small device turned on, implanted at the age of twenty-six, it began counting down the years, months, days, hours, seconds until midnight of the day he’d meet his soulmate.

He grins and lays back down, trying to calm himself, knowing the timer will beep again when he locks eyes with them, whoever they are. Despite his nerves and excitement, he manages to fall back asleep and dreams of some stranger, beautiful and lovely.

Hoseok sweats in his uniform, the humidity of Seoul in the summer pressing down on him as he writes out parking tickets–he’d been lucky to get simple work for his military service, but the monotony bores him, and he misses his team members more often than not. Yoongi works over in Daegu as a desk worker in a police station, and having his closest friend the farthest from him takes its toll on him.

He smiles through it, despite it, assured in his mind he’ll be reunited with all six boys, and Yoongi will finish his service at the start of the next year, and Hoseok will finish only a month later. And, another reason to smile–he’ll meet them soon, his soulmate, the one he’ll grow old with, and Hoseok could only ever be honest about his desire to find love, buying into the Timer before Bangtan had even gone on hiatus for conscription. He’d been the first of the group to get the device, and the last to meet his soulmate out of the first four that got one.

But here it is. The day he’ll meet her. Or him, or they, whoever.
