Meet Kashaya Allen, my model for Sims’ Next Top Model challenge by @mamalovesnuts.

Backstory: Kashaya is part of the Dry Creek Rancheria tribe of Pomo Indians in Northern California.  She grew up in a close-knit family and community.  She did well in school, but was happiest when she was pursuing creative outlets – designing and sewing clothes, jewelry making, and dancing. She savored the pages of fashion magazines – dreaming about the glamour, designer clothes, and exotic locations, but was frustrated that she never saw herself reflected in the images.  

After graduating from high school, Kashaya attended the Fashion Institute, which is where she was discovered by a model scout while walking in a friend’s runway show.  She decided to give modeling a try – she thought she’d get a foot in the fashion industry door and perhaps be able to travel the world.  At first she was told over and over that her look would never work, that she was too exotic, or that she was not what the client wanted.  But slowly she started picking up work and now, a few years later and living in the big city, she is signed with her dream agency, Simhelmina Models.

Kashaya is also head designer for her fashion company, Mata, which blends tailored silhouettes with cultural influences by integrating fabrics, weaving, and beading from local craftspeople into the designs. While Kashaya has had success in the fashion industry, she feels that there is still room for growth.  Her concern is that the fashion industry needs more cultural representation and less appropriation.  

Opinions on SNTM competition: Kashaya hopes that winning the prestigious Sims’ Next Top Model competition will bring mainstream success so she can use her fame to create change.  Kashaya dreams of a day when little girls like her see themselves regularly represented in the media and in the pages of glossy magazines.

Newcrest is so scenic at night...  I love the way the city backdrop illuminates the night sky.  It has me intrigued about what the next world will look like for the City Life EP.

I’ve had my simblr for a little over a year but I only became active on it five months ago.  I’m a Sims 4 builder and sims creator and I post about my builds and interior design, sims, lookbooks, challenges, and gameplay.  I really enjoy the creativity and shared enthusiasm of the Sims community so I’d love to connect with other simblrs.

My Answers:

1. What’s your favorite Sims world (feel free to list one from each game that you’ve played)? Sims 3 had so many gorgeous worlds – Isla Paradiso, Monte Vista, Roaring Heights, & Lucky Palms (ah, Palm Springs midcentury modern).  In the Sims 4, I love Windenburg (so beautiful) and Oasis Springs. 2. Who’s your favorite pre-made Sim and why? Sims 2 – the Caliente sisters.  Sims 3 – Agnes Crumplebottom.  Sims 4 – Bella Goth. 3. If you could choose ONE thing to be included in a new EP, what would it be? I’m kind of a maximalist so choosing only one is difficult.   That said, I desperately want seasons! 4. Do you know any other Simmers in real life (not online)? My sister played Sims 2 & 3, but she couldn’t get into Sims 4. 5. What rooms do you have the toughest time decorating (in-game)? I enjoy decorating every room, but I’m finding it tough to decorate bedrooms without custom content because there are so few beds. 6. What’s your favorite kind of room to decorate?  I love decorating every room, especially kitchens. 7. To clutter, or not to clutter?  This one’s easy – clutter all the way!  Clutter makes a room look lived in and personalized.   8. What animal besides cat, dog, or horse would you like to see in a Pets expansion? Monkeys. 9. What’s your favorite mode of transportation, in real life and in The Sims? In real life – cars.  In the Sims – bicycle (sadly not in Sims 4 yet). 10. What’s your favorite Sims career? Chef or painter. 11. If you could create a new Sims trait, what would it be? Neurotic could be interesting.  Also, I miss the vegetarian trait from previous games.
