Sir Pentious redesign!!!! Original for comparison ( also lil ramble below)

For starters I actually like sir pentious’ original design a lot! He’s one of the designs that actually feels demonic, if that makes sense? ( I feel like a lot of the designs are sometimes too bland or just anthro animal)

The only things I didn’t like is the generic suit and the top hat being a bit too expressive, it got too distracting for me.

For my redesign I tried to lean more into steam punk inventor since that’s seems to be a huge part of his character.

Some notes

I gave him a more Victorian outfit to better match his time period (it’s not the best but it’s better than shoulder pads and bow ties 😭)

I changed his primary colors to green and purple ( mainly to reflect the sins of envy and pride) you know since he desires to be an overlord I imagine he’s pretty envious of those in power, also he does have a bit of inflated ego

I simplified the hat, it’s only has the eye now, the pupil can move around and dilate but it’s not as expressive (it’s mainly a me thing I just find it way to distracting that the hat makes so many expressions)

I thought it would be a neat idea if he’d put lil accessories on his tail ( like different ray guns or weapons) I thought it would be cute since it would be like a lil rattler, I’d like to think he switches it out often

And probably the biggest change is the robotic limbs, I really wanted the sinner forms to not only reflect a persons life and death but to also be a form of punishment for them. So when pentious first arrived in hell he had no arms, a punishment to prevent him from inventing , the thing he loves to do the most. It didn’t stop him tho as he managed to build himself some prosthetics later on.

Also egg bois confuse me so much so I just made them lil robots, also needed to fill up the page with a doodle lol

This is still in the works, I’m not 100% satisfied and my ideas are a bit scattered but I do like how it turned out! I’m considering doing an alt demon form for him as well as his heaven version too ( I hate how it’s just a palette swap) Let me know what you think! Input is appreciated!!

I’ll probably do an Alastor redesign next ( I have quite a bit to say about him) that or redesigning IMP, I’m open to suggestions!

Another thing I’d like to add about Mammon, if the leaks are supposedly true, I don’t like how he’s one of the “ bad” sins, all the sins should be bad, I mean they’re sins. I don’t know why bee and Ozzie get a pass

If they really wanted the sins to have more character than just being evil, they could have either made them all morally grey or have them be in charge of punishing sinners who have done that sin ( that would make Ozzie’s consent line make a bit more sense as well as bees concern when others overindulge)

That or make Bee and Ozzie just hellborns they didn’t need to be deadly sins

I’ve been seeing a lot of people compare Mammon to Valentino

Basically if you like mammon you can’t get mad at people who like Val, since both characters are abusive

And while I do understand people comparisons, I think putting the two as the same type of character feels wrong.

Mammon does abuse fizz, he overworks and berates him but that is not comparable to Val sexually abusing angel. Also helluva treats Mammon as a more silly stupid villain, and his workplace abuse is so cartoonishly evil I can’t take it too seriously. That being said I don’t agree with Mammons actions but its hard to take it seriously when character like Blitz and Loona do the same thing and there’s not much consequence for them.

To contrast all scenes with Val abusing Angel are taken seriously and feel far more raw and vile ( I do have criticism on how Val is handled as a character and angels abuse portrayal but I’ll save that for another time)

In the end it’s a weird grey area when having favorite characters since all of them are in hell.

But Idk what are your thoughts? This is kinda more a discussion than a criticism

My pentious design is almost done but the inner critic inside me is not liking it 😭

I’m gonna post it anyways as well as ideas I would like to incorporate, but it probably won’t be the final version

In the future I wanna do a hazbin style study as well as make my design more animator friendly (not that I plan to animate lol) I just want it to look pretty close to the original series

So you guys will probably see me continue to redesign my redesigns as I go forth (it’s all a learning process for me)

Here’s a work in progress, trying to figure out the outfit ( want to make it more steampunk also yes he’s got robot arms)

Ive been liking the strella Halloween merch

But I’m hoping they aren’t made to be canon, I can’t stand one of my top ships being ruined by awful writing 😭

I feel like almost all hellaverse ships are better in fanon versus canon, I just don’t think couples in the show are well written (they either range from too perfect or just toxic, borderline abusive, there’s no in between)

Lil ramble while I work on the redesigns, but what’s everybody’s thoughts on the shorts?

I haven’t watched them all, haven’t been in the mood to, but I found them just fine, nothing special.

But what irritates me is when there’s people who defend the show saying the shorts fix the problems the series had ( Millie and the original premise) the shorts should be just something on the side, I shouldn’t need them to fix problems within the show.

It reminds me of the gravity falls shorts they used to air, they were fun but weren’t necessary for viewing. I didn’t need those shorts in order to find character development for Mable. It was just bonus content, and I feel that’s what the helleva boss shorts should be. The shorts aren’t the answer for the show, I shouldn’t need them to get info on Millie or see the actual premise

Might as well share something, if it wasn’t obvious sir pentious is my favorite character lol

I figured he’d also be the easiest one to redesign, rn it’s a wip, hopefully I can finish it soon! (I’ll also explain my design process then)
