‘ Ambrose got sick right before our first winter finals.I smuggled him fruits from the cafeteria. One day, i peeled him an apple. I didn’t have a peeler, so i just cut off all of its skin with a knife. When he saw it, he laughed. Thought it was silly. You’ve made it geometric,’ he said.I realized he was right.I just didn’t realize it could be done another way. He didn’t eat the apple because he said he didn’t like how its flesh felt on the skin of his thumbs. I went home that summer and asked my mom why she cut off the skins of apples. ‘Its cleaner,’she said. ‘And nicer. And the skins are bitter.Why would i feed you something bitter?’
