Two years ago this week, I came to Nashville to save my life and figure out how to be myself. I was scared to death no one would love me as I am.

One year ago today, I celebrated my first Trans Day of Visibility. I had only been out to the world for a month. My ears had been pierced for a week. I was finally visible. That was a huge step. But I didn’t feel seen.

In the year since then, I have lived and loved and lost and struggled. HRT has calmed me and made me recognize myself more and more. But the greatest change of the past twelve months is that I have found my chosen family. A glorious mix of familiar faces and new. All incredible, wonderful, goofy, and full of so much love. I would do anything for these people. I feel comfortable being myself with them. They feel comfortable being themselves with me. That was something I didn’t know I could have before.

Now I feel seen. Now I feel heard. Now I feel loved.
