There’s something profound and beautiful about trusting your own self. Despite what the world said. Everyday, I’m learning that. Today’s reminder is brought to me by @moonchild0297 who wrote this incredible piece about being a fangirl. And now I’m a fan of her boss-ass confidence in telling the world to shove it (and so articulately too!)

In case you didn’t know, I’m a fangirl of fangirls. And here’s why. (Please read in powerpuff girls intro voice):

Today... the average person is being ground to death in the machine, when the earth is being suffocated by toxic wastes of matter & thought. Systems of capitalism and patriarchy work together to create a wall between us and our inner knowing. The dark forces of generational trauma and centuries of internalised misogyny have infiltrated every level of society. In such bleak times, an unexpected force emerges. A force of true and pure love and light that is a net for the falling and a balm for the hurt. A non hierarchical system of support and kindness, of encouragement and pride. A wholesome wave of trust and faith - this is THE FANGIRL.

I could only write this because that article gave me the FEEEEELZZZ! I’ve only recently begun to trust and love the fangirl in me unabashedly. And I am LOVVVING IT! So, thank you @moonchild0297 for voicing what I’ve been feeling!

What BTS gave me? You.

Being an admirer of Kim Namjoon has brought me close to so many beautiful people. That’s the true magic of BTS, for me. Their friendship, their music - which is an inextricable part of their music - has created a ripple effect of friendships everywhere. I’m so lucky to have found it when I did. I’m so lucky to have been able to be a part of this beautiful domino chain.

These women, they are all so smart, on their paths to loving themselves every day (because as we all know love yourself is a train, not a station). These women - women I’m so so proud to call my friends. One of them is a straight up warrior raising and teaching her kids and is literally full of life! She lends me a comforting shoulder from far away and I can feel her love and her kindness and her fiery will to love and live fully all the way here, in my heart!

Another is the softest most beautiful shy and tender creature I’ve ever come across... she lives through the everyday without revealing her pain. She takes her feelings and weaves them into wool warmers for the heart. She speaks softly (I imagine) and writes deeply. I cannot begin to explain how she helps caress my heart. I hope she knows her words are basically warm tea for my soul.

Then we have another gorgeous person - she’s a gamer (idc if there’s a strict definition of gamer to me a gamer is one who loves and plays games), she’s a fighter and yet there’s such a beautiful softness, kindness in her strength. She’s been suffering, even if she’s been physically hurting, her spine is straight and her heart is soft. She is healing her own pain and in that process is helping me heal my own.

Yet another talks to me about finding her way to self kindness and she boosts me up with her words. My fangirl sister, I see her be kind, be vigil towards being kind in a way I’ve never seen before. She reminds me to be stepping consciously, conscientiously so as not to repeat the misgivings of our ancestors or of our past selves.

AND all these women write. All their words have brought me such joy and such warmth. Yet, the magical part is all the words I’ve written describing each describes the other too. Some might not be mothers but they are just as fiery, just as nurturing. I’m not taking names because I don’t want to put any of them on the spot (which is sometimes what happens with mentions) but I do want to thank them all. Thank you, you beautiful beautiful people. For helping me make a home here, when I’m yet to find my true home.

Yes BTS has given us all so much comfort and loving through their songs and their words and in general their chaotic antics. Plus, the gorgeous mind and heart that Kim Namjoon is has taught me so so much about myself and about us all. All of these elements together is causing an alchemy within me. BTS have given me is a way to reach people... to make friendships in a way that wasn’t possible for me before. How do I express gratitude for something as vast as this? I don’t know how these two words can contain it all... still, all I can say is Thank You.

FERAL WRITING ABOUT KIM NAMJOON AS PRESIDENT Of THE WORLD’S MOST CREATIVE PEOPLE.

What stood out the most in the recent interview was Kim Namjoon’s answer to Sakshma’s question about how they feel about constantly reinventing their music with each comeback -

So when Namjoon spoke about how it’s never been easy to make albums of multiple songs (8-10? Some even more?!), twice every year, sometimes thrice a year, while reinventing their style and trying to say things in a deeper way + the visuals + other content (games, variety shows, interviews, behind the scenes). He says there’s hardly any artists doing putting out THAT much music. AAAND he attributes this to be a major reason for their success.

So okay pause. Yes BTS do do that & we love them for it. But there’s something special about #Namjoon here - because basically he’s been the leader of this band for 8 years now. Maybe I’m wrong but he’s KIND OF been the creative director of this music making machine that has KEPT ITS SOUL ALIVE.

That is NOT EASY. I’m hard pressed to find something harder to do. Just in terms of the success, I think equating BTS to Apple and Namjoon to Jobs would be a fair show of the scale at which they are.

Except that I think BTS are more egalitarian & better for the physical & mental environment of the world. They have an integrity that is essential to live a soulful life and I know they’re loved for it but it needs to be appreciated more!

Now the more interesting part, the part that makes me go a little bit mad - the sheer creative prowess this frickin 26 year old has MUST BE INNNNSANE. It’s not just the lyricism, the wordplay (which, for me, is brilliant in its fearlessness) it’s also that he’s been solving problems - creative, administrative - for eight years. Which basically means that apart from the talents we know and love in him, he’s also BASICALLY A MASTER IN DESIGN THINKING!

This, along with honing his craft, getting more aware about both worlds - his internal universe and the external world. I’m in awe.

Ofcourse BTS have all done that. Ofcourse the members (& crew & the producers) are all responsible for it but you know what I’m talking about right? Even the members talk about Namjoon’s genius and the level of responsibility on his (gorgeous) shoulders. As an artist, a songwriter, a composer, a rapper, a leader - Namjoon is a CREATIVE LEGEND.

Need proof? The man talks about the three Bs of creativity here - like it’s no joke - bath, bed & bus- three places where ideas flow.

He speaks about a literal net of thoughts that he spreads across the world and then knowing that an idea is caught. This is the most creative description of the creative process I have ever heard. In one line, Kim Namjoon broke my mind and the matrix.

So yeah, he needs to be asked more questions about creativity. Such as -

1. Explain more about the net of thoughts and catching ideas.

2. What does he think of the word Genius?

3. What does he do when fear, comparisons crop up within him / within the members?

4. Thoughts on the quote - ‘the best writing comes through you, not from you’.

5. What does he do on “off days”, on days when the ideas just don’t come?

6. How does he stay curious?

7. Rest & play (purposeless fun) - how important are they to his inner well-spring of creativity? How does he get rest & play?

8. How does knowing different languages affect his perspective?

It must not be easy at all. There must be days that might be really hard. Thank you, Kim Namjoon. Hope you’re doing okay. We are grateful affff and extremely proud of you. 💜
