There is only so far that I can dig my palms into my eyes before I

get to the other side of the earth

There’s only so long the board can bear the wave before it tilts

too far right and spits itself back to the shore

Leaving the body crime-scened on the sand

Or witch-trialed in the waters Atlantic

Either way, either state, you cannot escape

the fine grain that dashes 

down the hourglass

to find you

You, who breaks the mirror

You, who scorns the fractals

You, who pricks the finger then pretends it isn’t bleeding

You really must’ve lost it this time

When the calendar stops at the street corner

When time freezes at the number on the page

When you're drifting out with no one to tether to

When you’re mauling, wrecking, clawing at the ground

The talons break the skin, grey matter scratched off in rolls

The hair torn out of the follicles

We erode away like rock and towers of silt built long before us

And pile up on one another to build the basis of our being

Now I’ve got salt in my sweaters from all my superstition

Now I’ve got broken glass buried in my feet

And when the lights outside align and and cry for order

I’ll be the first to run across the Earth
