Soft Steddie Saturday

I've been having a rough one today. Plans all got cancelled. Car isn't working. To help myself cope, I wrote a soft little Steddie moment for an unexpected Saturday. Maybe it'll help you too?

Fifty-two.

That’s the number of times Steve counts the rise and fall of his boyfriend’s chest as he sleeps soundly.

He watches the gently flutter of Eddie’s full lashes and wonders what dreams he’s having. He hopes they’re good ones.

Eddie deserves great ones.

Steve sees the delicate way his full lips part. How he lets out whispered breathes with each smooth exhale.  

A lone curl lies loosely across his forehead. Steve fights the urge to reach over and move it away. Be he doesn’t disturb him.

Let him sleep.

Let him be.

There’s something content about the look on Eddie’s face that makes Steve’s heart feel light – the way it always makes Steve feel light.

And lighter still – like he can float on air.

Steve sits up, leaning on his elbow as he smiles softly at his love.

He reaches for the twist of curls on his brow, moving it carefully away.

“I love you baby.” He mumbles to himself and lays down, sinking into the bed to rest his head on Eddie’s shoulder.

Eddie keeps his eyes closed.

And a smile softly stretches across his face.
