Autistic Tanjiro Headcanon

Ayoo! Here's a character study of everyone's favorite protagonist I did while rewatching! It's just a few things I picked up on or personally vibed with as autism symptoms and I wanted to share :D

1. He tends to misinterpret or miss social cues

For example, when he first met Inosuke in Ep.14 and mistook his anger as his wounds hurting him and nearly all of the characters nearby had the collective thought of "He doesn't get it"

Or in Ep.26 when Kanao was making it clear that she wanted their conversation to be over, but Tanjiro didn't seem notice at all and instead took it as an invitation to sit down keep talking

Overall, he generally has a hard time realizing when people find him annoying

2. Imitation

4. Attention to detail

Just little things like him avoiding the papers in the demon mansion or noticing that Kanao's eyes changed.

5. Hyper empathetic

Empathy is a pretty big part of his character. He's always shown sympathy for demons even when others view them as unforgivable.

6. Hypersensitive to smells

It's just canon

7. Hyper focus

He has a few scenes in Ep.24 where he's so deep in thought that he doesn't notice other characters talking to him until they're literally in his face or physically grab him to get his attention

8. Overstimulation

That whole city scene in Ep.7? Sensory overload. He didn't calm down until he physically distanced himself from the lights, noise, and crowd.

9. He actually stress stims alot!

He tends to ball his fist or grip his clothing when he's really angry or stressed.

Sorry, but having Zuko actually fight back against Ozai during their Agni Kai is just wrong. He was a child, only 13 at the time, afraid to fight his own father and was mutilated as punishment, because Ozai saw Zuko's begging and unwillingness to fight as unforgiveable weakness.

The Angi Kai isn't meant to be a showcase of Zuko's fighting potential (that's what the Zhao fight is for), but to show the utter cruelty of Ozai.
