(Mun again! I know, 2 in a day, but I’m sick and bored 😅
Don’t worry, Goliath, you’re in good company 🤣
While Liberty has picked up a good bit of modern slang, her pattern of speech is still very similar to Goliath’s, and she can switch between the two whenever she’s with him and Hudson or the trio of youngsters.
This may seem duplicitous or two-faced, but I feel like it’s very smart on her part. She’s socially aware enough to know how to speak to be understood clearly depending on who she’s with.
Add onto that her passion for reading, and her lexicon improves vastly, and sometimes she’ll purposefully use complex vocabulary to mess with the trio if they’re getting on her nerves (which is more often than you’d think)
Brooklyn: Cool
Broadway: It's a new word we learned last night*
Lexington: It indicates a positive response
Once again, Brooklyn starts the thread of doing something they're unsure of how Goliath would react to, but the other two are right on his wavelength. It's all very appropriate for each of them. Brooklyn just does it, Broadway explains why they did it, and Lexington explains the behavior. Action, social responsibility, information sharing. There are probably better ways to put it, but so far, this feels like the roles these three often are falling in to people called Furi (me).
Goliath is so perplexed by it. They're moving so much faster than him. He had no real interest in integrating into this world even if he wasn't going to stop the others, but now he's faced with the prospect of having his own motivations to actually care about this stuff, and I don't think he totally knows how to process. He did just fine with the names and all the new things he saw, but a new slang word, new language, is suddenly throwing him off.
Between Demona showing up and giving him a reason of his own to look forward to the future and embarking on a mission that isn't quite gargoyles-like, this is one thing too much apparently in this moment. Poor Goliath
(Mun speaking again! More thoughts on Liberty’s interactions with the clan, particularly Demona before she revealed her true colors)
Ohhhhh this hurts 😅
The sheer ELATION Liberty felt seeing her again, believing her to have been shattered all those centuries ago. The feeling of joy at reunion was mutual, and to add onto that, Liberty would have wanted to share all she’d learned so far about the city, the new people, the new structures, her new name…
Sadly circumstances prevented such things, and I would like to believe Demona would have at least heard her out. Would she have agreed with any of it? Probably not, but at least she’d get a little peek into the enrichment her young companion was experiencing.
I do think she genuinely means it. She may suspect that she might never convert Goliath to her way of thinking, but she's been so long without gargoyles, and though she may care more for her vengeance than for her people, that came to be because she believed in the cause of helping her people at one point. It's the purpose she tells herself she's working toward. And she is so lonely. I do believe she truly hopes that she will have some of them by her side by the end of this all. There is still love and warmth in her heart, they just are nothing compared to the centuries of anger and fury and hurt and her need to burn the world down. In this moment though, she gets to play at a version of herself she, at least at one point, wishes she could recapture. These moments with her and Bronx almost makes me sad that she doesn't at least get to keep him at her side or something else that wouldn't necessarily know better.
“Awww, how adorable! I wonder if Elisa has done this with Cagney?”
(Hi, mun speaking here! I wanted to reinterpret this scene as if it were Liberty in Brooklyn’s place, how she would react in this scenario, so please bear with me ^_^u
I feel that, just like Brooklyn, Liberty would be conflicted. Demona has not shown herself to be entirely trustworthy, but she DID save her life from humans (I imagine in Liberty’s case, it would be a book club who happened to be meeting outside… and carry firearms 😅)
And the way Demona talks, it makes sense, plus her former standing in the clan lends her some authority over the younger gargoyle, who already looked up to her, at least once, as a mother figure.
And in here lies Liberty’s biggest flaw:
She’s a people pleaser.
She has a trend of going along with whoever’s in charge (Goliath, Hudson, even Elisa to an extent) and this trait has been part of her since their original time period, meaning she would innately defer to Demona, out of habit.
Demona knows this, counts on it even, and uses it to her advantage, presenting herself as remorseful, as looking out for the clan’s best interests, and offers Liberty something she craves: knowledge.
Knowledge that could protect their clan, after all, that’s what GOLIATH would want, right?
Brooklyn looks so defeated during all of this. A lot is going on for him I think. He's still feeling really awful about his experience. He also wants to believe in Demona and that she could truly be looking out for gargoyles, but he KNOWS he shouldn't. He doesn't want to believe Demona's claims about humankind, but he's afraid from what he's experienced that she may be right. He doesn't think he should give Demona a chance, and yet he wants to believe that they could be clan again together so badly that, against his own best instincts, he takes her hand.
“How sad that history does not value young women who have accomplished extraordinary achievements…”
You say 'amateur' as if it was a dirty word. 'Amateur' comes from the Latin word 'amare', which means to love. To do things for the love of it.
