and instead of telling me that she was going to that my best friend just told me she was busy at a certain time!! on top of that she wanted to hang out with me in the morning and she would have done that knowing that i was feeling very shitty and that she was just going to a party that confirmed all of my insecurities

AHH!! hii!! im literally so so sooo glad you asked!

ok so basically the story is high fantasy and like double layered (idk how else to describe it without spoiling the entire plot twist at the end) and what i mean by that is that all of the events that happen in the book revolve around an event that happened ten years before the book starts but the main character doesn't know exactly what happened

the actual plot of the story follows my MC (main character) who just graduated from a school for orphans/children with parents that wanted them trained in their powers (having magic isn't exactly rare but it's not unbelievably common). In exchange for being raised by them, you have to do whatever they say and go on missions for them and even once you graduate they can call you at any time and ask you to do something. The school is run by three women that see the future and they group the children in the school based on the futures they see for them. The main character's prophecy is that she's going to end the world, and she's determined to not do that. She's desperate to be a good person even though her powers seem to always manifest themselves destructively and the fact that she's been trained to be a killer/spy.

Anyways that's all kinda background bc the main character's story starts with her joining this disgraced gang leader (who disappeared ten years ago after a mysterious fight with the most feared man in the city they live in) bc the leader promises to give the MC the power she needs to avenge her friend. the MC gets sent to participate in a contest that man holds every year in order to gain his trust and then kill him. The thing is, he's been looking for someone with the MC's powers since that night and he seems to be the only one that can answer her questions so she's temporarily getting his help. However, the longer she plays his games the more evil he seems, and she starts to think he might be using her for something.

there's also the return of this disease the disappeared that disappeared, and the MC's powers affect it strangely.
