š Our muses to meet at a casino (Jordi)
First Meeting Starters // Open(specify muse)
The height of the evening, the casino was a loud bustle of chatter, cheers, and varying bells and whistles, even if it wasnāt always the most favored spot in the city. Jordi liked that, it was easier to blend when he knew there wasnāt a pair of eyes watching him at every corner. Some of the bigger places might want his head for counting cards, but they can never prove anything since he tends to throw the hand when it gets too high. The disappointment from the crowd was more amusing than their excitement. But, there were still days when he actually tried and failed. Games of chance tended to be better like that.
āHey, hey hey hey, donāt you fuckinā look at me like that,ā he pointed a finger at the table worker, his other hand covering his chips from the man,Ā āThat shit flicked from red, donāt think I didnāt notice that. You arenāt cheating me out of what I walked over here with. So fuck off, before I get angry.āĀ
Jordi scooped up his chips, far less than he had been promised, and turned mumbling to himself to move towards one of the blackjack tables. It was in the center of the room, but the table was vacant except for one other there. Jordi knew the look. The man didnāt need to speak, he didnāt need to even address him. He had arranged this through Jordiās sources, and paid quite well for it too. Jordi wasnāt one to turn down such... generosity.Ā
He sat at the table, laying the chips down. He tossed a couple forward, nodding to the dealer before snapping his fingers at a passing waitress,Ā āHey, whiskey. On the rocks. Make it snappy,ā he turned back to the table, watching the dealer draw the cards for him,Ā āI hope youāve been enjoying yourself here. This place... Well, they like to cheat and rob you blind, but its an honest kind of cheating. The kind that does it right in front of your face. I like that kind of honesty,ā he glanced towards the man beside him with a little smile,Ā āSure hope your luck has been better than mine.ā
For everyone: Describe paradise.

Jordi hummed to himself, considering the request. After a long deliberation, he shrugged, giving a big smile,Ā āWith my gun in hand and money in the bank, Iām already in paradise. What could be better than what Iām already living?ā

Dusan raised the glass to his lips, taking a sip of his whiskey,Ā āParadise? If youāre implying I think thereās some sort of afterlife, you can just stop right there,ā he set the glass down, folding his arms,Ā āParadise isnāt real, it canāt be achieved, man. The only thing we can do is make the best of life while weāre here. And Iām on my way to it,ā he smirked.Ā

āParadise...ā the monkās systems whirred as he pressed his hands together and his censors blinked excitedly,Ā āIt is a place where all are equal, all are at peace, and the world is finally one. Within the light of the Iris, it will be achieved. Whether or not you hate or love, or believe, you will be one with all some day.ā

Elias simply hummed at the request as he continued to write on the page he was writing,Ā āParadise is too good for us, isnāt it? Whatās life without a little fear, after all?ā he stopped writing just long enough to glance up at the anon and give a wide smirk.Ā

āTimes like these, Iām reminded of advice that one of my brothers once told his followers,ā the boy cleared his throat, preparing to get into the zone of such wise words,āĀ ā You don't know what you got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,āĀ ā he let out a sigh, slumping his shoulders and shook his head,Ā āParadise for me is probably a place where my family is safe, but so, so, far away from me.ā

It was a much needed vacation. After spending so much of his time playing babysitter for an ungrateful, self proclaimed vigilante, it was nice to be able to take some time for himself. Jordi typically prided himself on keeping himself busy, but man... Even the most dedicated needed a break after all of that. He still couldnāt help but wonder how he was doing.
Jordi walked down the street lost in his own mind until the amount of people around started to increase in groups. It seemed to be some sort of street fair or event, looking up he could see the stands up ahead, smell the scent of fried food in the air. Couldnāt hurt to look around, with a shrug, he pushed on forward down the center, walking slowly as he looked from side to side.Ā
He was dressed more causally than he did when he was working. He tucked his hands into the pockets of his dark jeans, his satin, dark red shirt tucked in buttoned up to the top three. Laying low, he figured it was probably best to not dress the same as he typically did, but there was no turning away from the only style one really has. His steps slowed down as he caught sight of one stand that had jewelry on display. All sorts of tacky pendants and rings, the sort of things kids liked to beg their parents for. He stepped closer, glazing over it all. He was starting to turn away when one caught his eyes, a necklace. With a knife.Ā
āOh, thatās too good to pass up,ā the irony of it made him laugh. How ridiculous he would probably seem if anyone knew, but it was also just too good. Once he bought, he put it on and turned to keep walking, a satisfied smile on his face. He didnāt notice the woman standing there when he turned, bumping his arm into her as he tried to pass,Ā āHey, watch it,ā he said,Ā āYou shouldnāt stand so close, you might just get run over.ā

Jordi studied her for a moment as she spoke, looking her over. Young girl, the typical type youād see at these things. She was even distracted by her phone when he bumped her. In the middle of the street, with so many people walking past? Careless even. Though, he wasnāt about to admit he hadnāt been paying attention either. It was better to just push the blame.Ā
He smiled, a wide grin, as she complimented the necklace. An appreciation for the bling, he could feed into that a bit. Glaze over the fact that he was the one that bumped into someone not even moving. He stuck his thumb under the chain, holding it up from the collarbone a bit,Ā āYou like that? Its a bit cheesy, and definitely the kind of needlessly edgy that kids today love. But, I dunno, I kinda like it,ā he let it drop again and nodded his head back over his shoulder,Ā āBack there at that stand. Little pricey, but, thats the beauty of the scam.ā
The metal was far from being any kind of silver, so it was hardly worth what they were asking for. But, the novelty of it is what draws people in. He can recognize a proper money grab, the kind that brings in the cash at far less than the cost. Capitalism at its finest,Ā āIām sure you could probably find something to catch your eye. Everyone does, right?ā Jordi glanced back to the stand. He wasnāt usually materialistic, but he couldnāt pass up irony.

Wow, this girl was... really something. Jordi knew he could be chatty at times, its a good distraction for most people, but this was a whole other level. She was a real spectacle, sticking out like a sore thumb. Pair that with her mouth, she was likely the perfect scapegoat. It was just a shame he wasnāt being chased.Ā
āI donāt let anyone tell me what to do,ā Jordi just raised an eyebrow, keeping it light as he flashed a smile,Ā āUnless, of course, theyāre paying me well enough.ā It was a terrible joke, but those were Jordiās favorite. He just loved to make other people miserable, even if its with a cheesy pun,Ā āAs far as Iām concerned, society can kiss my shoes. Never liked to fit in anyway.ā
Watching her, he just nodded. He had to wonder, for just a moment, how much of what she was like was real. Heād never quite met someone like her with such a loud personality that wasnāt faking most, if not everything, they put on. Maybe that was too judgmental, but he wasnāt one to trust what he saw on the surface anyway.
āLike I said, a bit pricey, but,ā he shrugged, turning to walk past her as he waved his hand lazily to the side,Ā āgood luck finding something.ā

Before Aiden could grab the coffee, another hand reached out and took it from under his fingers. A familiar white suit and snarky attitude,Ā āWell, well, well. Arenāt you a sight for sore eyes?ā
Jordi had been watching the little store for someone to come in, someone he had been tailing. There was a connection he was following, a little gang war heād found himself chasing. It seemed profitable enough, he had enough clients out west who could benefit from the gangs downfall. It was hard to find smaller jobs these days. Looking to the man in front of him, he could see just why that was.Ā
āAnd I knowĀ sore eyes, since you gave me a nice one the last time we were this close.ā He looked at the coffee for a moment before just setting it back down on the counter and throwing a hand to pat Aidenās shoulder, turning him so they could walk back towards the door,Ā āTrust me, you donāt want the coffee here, itās hardly even caffeine. You want something that will really work? I know a place. My treat, for old times sake.ā
He wasnāt expecting to run into the infamous Vigilante himself again after their last encounter. Laying low for a while proved to be much less exciting than watching the man take on the Chicago South Club. Like a much needed vacation, but the money always speaks louder than time off. Here he was, watching out for another target when something else crosses his path. Something heād need to go away so he could do his job.

San Francisco was a hot spot. A literalĀ hot spot, it seemed like the sun never stopped shining there for more than a few moments. What was it that was so attractive to people about California? Was there some innate sense of manifest destiny in these young people even in the 21st century? It seemed unlikely, but what was clear for sure was that rich kids really tried to fool themselves thinking theyāreĀ āsomeoneā by living in what is probably a literal hell on earth.
Jordi scoffed at the thought. What did it matter? Theyād all waste their lives away in no time anyway. Waste it, or at least blow their money on something stupid. Young people were good at that. He watched another pair walk past the alley, not even paying him any mind as he sat behind the wheel of his car. They were talking, he could hear them. Excited about something, showing it off on their phones.Ā
āNope, itās not you,ā Whoever this girl was-- kidĀ he should say, recalling the details of their file-- he figured she would likely stick out enough to him. All these hackers around this town were the same, it wasnāt the same as it was in Chicago. Technology grew more and more all the time. Annoying, as the CtOS cameras continued to glance his way now and then,Ā āNot here, not now, not ever.ā
He started the car again. moving it to a more secluded location, something that wasnāt stared at by the cameras. God was there anywhere in this city they werenātĀ looking? Once Jordi felt more out of sight, he checked his gun was loaded and left the car to just walk. The ones who hired him had been specific about what they wanted from the target. She knew something she shouldnāt. Jordi just had to get it, or kill them. Easy. Idly, he pulled his leather gloves out, pulling them on one at a time. Slow, methodic, as his eyes scanned the area. Keeping behind the cars on the side of the street, he spotted them.Ā
A smile pulled at his lips a bit,Ā āWell well, there you are,ā he hummed to himself, moving closer to her.Ā

prev. / @n0va-c41neā
Getting a good look at them, oh yeah Jordi could definitely tell this was the one. It always amazed him how some people in this town did the bare minimum to hide themselves. Even these so calledĀ āelite hackersā tended to act like they were so far above everything that hiding was pointless. Maybe they were right to an extent, but it just made them bigger targets. And when someone got the upper hand, there was nowhere they could run.
āOh yes, I am,ā his eyes followed as they seemed to reach for something, the motion not escaping him,Ā āDonāt even try it,ā a swift motion, he pulled out his own gun and point it at them,Ā āYou try anything and itāll only make things worse for you.ā
The determined look in Jordiās eye was not one easily swayed. He had a job to do and he would do it by any means necessary. The client didnāt care for the outcome, only that they got what they want, what they paid for.Ā
āCatherine Rheeves, huh?ā he exhaled a hard laugh,Ā āYou know, being in this town, you start to see a lot of sad things in people. But, I think that has to be the saddest attempt to hide, donāt you think, Vivienne? One in your position might think theyād want to hide a bit better than that.ā
Jordi shook his head as he stepped closer, though keeping his distance from them,Ā āOh well, makes my job easier at least. Who am I to complain about an easy pay day?ā

āNeat little trick, huh?ā Giving her a chance to completely survey her surroundings allowed Jordi the delightful element of surprise, letting this young personās mind wander and assume the worst before he fully showed his hand. Was she naive to think no one would follow or notice her? Or was that the sort of confidence that came in most of these self proclaimedĀ āhacktivistsā these days?
Jordi stepped out from beside the nearest building, holding his gun out pointed at her. There was a slight smile on his face, as well as the humor in his voice, but his eyes remained solely on her. The trained eyes of a man on a mission, and he was about as determined as they come.Ā
āSpecial little thing I picked up from a rain cloud who knows your type well. Effective, definitely keeps you from getting any funny ideas - now, step away from the railing,ā with his other hand, Jordi pointed to the side, gesturing for her to move so that she didnāt have any funny ideas or try to escape,Ā āYou and I are just gonna have a little chat.Ā āKay?ā
@ineffablemusesā / xxx

Her attempts at flattery did not go unnoticed, it was just very typical of anyone who had a gun pointed at them to try. Jordi didnāt blame her; it was smart, really. And at the very least she seemed to be frightened enough to not want to run away. At least not yet.Ā
Slow and deliberate steps followed her, keeping the easier escape cut off. She could always run the other way down the alley, but there certainly wasnāt much to hide from his gun.Ā āUseful, yeah. But, not particularly favorable. See, Iām the kinda guy who honestly would rather shoot first and ask questions later. Which should be good news for you, kid, because it would at least be quick,ā usually, anyway, he thought to himself. That sort of thing depended more on how generous he might be feeling in the moment.Ā
āSo, Iām sure you must be wondering then, why?ā Jordi started to move a couple steps closer, towering over her even as he kept his gun pointed straight at her chest,Ā āI saw what you did. Took down that whole operation before slipping out the back door and leaving the guards wondering how fucked they are now. Oh yeah, I was there. That little show you put on fucked up my own plans, so now, youāre going to fix it,ā he gave a smile, holding his other hand up to the side,Ā āCall it a side job with an extra special payout.ā
@ineffablemusesā / xxx

āSee, now youāre getting it.ā Cooperative, Jordi could appreciate that. He wasnāt in the mood for a foot race, and wasting too much time could lose him his target anyway. He needed to figure out where that little snake slithered off to, and what better way than with the hacker that scared him off in the first place?
Stepping closer to her again, he gestured with the gun for her to start walking, down the alley. His car was waiting at the end, just out of sight but close enough they could get in quick without any drawing any suspicion,Ā āWhat I was doing,ā the slight inflection of irritation was shot back to combat the bit of bite she seemed to have in her tone,Ā āisnāt the point. What youāre going to do is track down the man I lost because of your little fucking show. Preferably before the fucker decides he wants to skip town. I have obligations here that I canāt be too far from for too long.ā
Never a dull moment anymore. It was just supposed to be a quick job, one that wouldnāt take him too far from the sad sack of shit he was keeping locked up. It had even been on his way to get lunch. But now, he was set back hours, maybe even days. They really didnāt have much time to debate.Ā
āYou find my guy, he gets a bullet between the eyes, and just maybe Iāll let you go and forget the whole thing. Got it?ā
@ineffablemusesā / xxx

"Good. Not so bad, huh?" Reaching into his pocket with his free hand, Jordi pulled out his keys, "I've got a phone in the car you can use. No funny shit or I'm pulling the trigger. That's you're only warning," once they made it to the end of the alley, he lowered the gun to her back more conspicuously, shifting around her to unlock the passenger door for her, "Get in."
The car was a classic 70ā²s Chevy muscle car, the sort that got all the attention at car shows. Dark red with black stripes across the top. It was well taken car of, pristine condition despite itās age. His pride and joy, Jordi considered it his favorite of his collection. One he had searched for and held on to, especially for those times when he just wanted to cruise down the highway and draw the envy of strangers. His favorite past time for sure.Ā
Jordi shoved the girl down into the seat and closed the door behind her, moving around the front to the drivers side,Ā āAll I wanted was aĀ shawarma wrap and maybe a side of coleslaw - something quick and simple so I can get back to this shitty job Iām stuck with - here,ā he reached down under the seat and took out a smart phone, holding it out to her. The gun still pointed at her, he started the car,Ā āGet to it, we donāt have all day.ā
@ineffablemusesā / xxx

Quick and efficient, that was one thing that Jordi could always appreciate about these hackers. They got things done when they needed to and didnāt waste as much time as some of the fixers beneath him might. The car pulled forward as he pressed down on the gas, taking off from their spot by the alley in anticipation of wherever they would be going. The gun was kept in his lap, still pointed to his unfortunate passenger.Ā
āSouth of Parker Square, huh,ā Jordi mused at her small talk, an offer of somewhere he could eat. He took his phone out to look the place up, his hand momentarily taken off the gun. The place was easy enough to find, no website beyond an info page they set up for themselves on Googles. But, the reviews seemed promising,Ā āHuh. Well, if itās actually shitty, then I know just who I will blame for it.ā
Once she had some sort of direction for them to go, Jordi pressed on the gas and turned sharply for the highway. it was the quickest shot from there to The Loop, and even quicker to Tremont House.Ā āI know the place. Donāt know how this piece of shit ends up staying somewhere like that, but hey. Thats Chicago. Shitheads hiding right under your nose. If heās trying to run, then weāll have to hurry if thereās any hope to catch him.ā
Swerving smoothly around the other cars, cursing out the window as they passed, the ride only started to slow once the exit was approaching. Jordi tucked his phone back away and made a motion to Bailey once again,Ā āWhat are we looking at, come on - I know you can find out what heās driving. Even if its not his. Cameras everywhere, especially somewhere like Tremont House. He sure as hell aināt getting away on foot.āĀ
Even if he did, Jordi was prepared for that.Ā
@ineffablemusesā / xxx

Jordi gave a small hum and a slight nod in response to the information. A decent car with a higher price tag, but not uncommon. Probably didnāt take him long to find it, assuming he took it right out of someone's hands to waste no time getting away. Or, he had it ready ahead of time, which might have been the more likely situation.Ā
āThat aināt gonna be easy to find,ā he hummed, turning off the highway and back onto the city streets,Ā āEven less so if he ditches it. Heās bound to know someone is coming. Thatās a problem. I donāt like problems.ā This quick stop of a mission was turning into a longer ordeal very quickly. They needed to find a way to get this guy before he had a chance to run.Ā
The streets around Tremont House were as busy as you would expect in early afternoon. Crowds of people checking in and checking out, catching cabs out front, as well as moving to and from the underground subway stations. There were plenty of ways for the guy to disappear if he so wanted to, plenty of ways for Jordi to lose out on his payday.Ā
He stopped the car a block away, keeping the hotel in his line of sight as he observed the crowds. The gun stayed resting on his leg, though still pointing directly at his passenger, but his focus was no longer on it. Instead, he took his phone out again to make a call, eyes seeming to follow any person in or out of the place that might look like the target.Ā
āYeah, hey, its me. Hit a bit of a snag, but Iāve got it under control. Yeah - Tyler is in Tremont House. Saw him pull up and walk inside,ā he snapped his fingers at Bailey, gesturing to the building for her to find him, find more information, anything,Ā āI need a pair of hands to cover the subways. Just in case... What, my guy? No no no, I canāt call my guy - heās busy. And probably cranky as usual. Get someone down there and stop the trains, delay them, keep this fucking guy from leaving the street.ā
