Movies Watched, Dec. 2022

December was rather hard. But the movies that I got to watch help me get through it. Felt foggy all month as I stumble towards the end of the year. As always, being on a long flight helped me watch a lot of films.

A Very English Scandal, Season 1 (2018)

Not a movie, but since there is only three episodes it may as well have been. The airplane had advertised the wrong season since it pulled images from the second season for its thumbnails. Great performances and sharply executed by Stephen Frears and Russel T. Davies (as always.)

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

The best in its recent generation, but they really should stop. Like, seriously just stop.

Official Competition (2021)

Smaller, darker and more searing than expected.

Bullet Train (2022)

The overall idea around luck and what brings the characters together is interesting but how the “story” is told feels kind of bad and weirdly, very dated. Joyless despite its overpacked cast.

I Love My Dad (2022)

So glad to have finally seen this. Wow. Funny, surreal, tight. Great. Captures how dizzying it can feel when you are connecting to someone online. Really enjoyed the way they showed the conversations between the characters.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (2022)

Great fun. The younger actors kind of ruined it for me. Their performances just couldn’t match up.

The Apartment (1960)

Great film, that still feels really modern. Risque and contemporary premise. Malcolm’s words on the premise of the film: “Choosing romanticism and uncertainty versus hypocritical, corporate, male structures”
