I thought I was done with all the stuff I had to say regarding the Church of Light, Mauler temple, Antandra, Lucius, and Belinda, but apparently I still have more thoughts on the matter. So here’s a more detailed breakdown of why I think the AFK lore is amazing and nuanced and why I don’t think a single character in the Church of Light or outside of it is objectively morally correct or wrong. And why I don’t think Antandra is as much of a moral authority as people seem to like to think of her. But let’s take it one by one.

The Deadly Sins as Hypogeans
Envy: Khazard. He wanted immortality so he betrayed the other Elementals.
Gluttony: Mezoth. He has an insatiable hunger.
Greed: Leofric. He is rich, and pretends to be generous, only to back-stab you.
Lust: Mehira. While her powers don't focus on sex specifically, they play with peoples' desires.
Pride: Mortas. He is tired of being made fun of. He killed those who disrespected him (except the one guy he turned into a Graveborn so the deal he made with the Hypogean powers would last forever)
Sloth: Zikis. He is the laziest of all the Hypogeans, and shows typical lazy cat behavior.
Wrath: Lucretia. Seeing what seemed like an act of betrayal sent her down a dark path of rage and hatred.
Mehira: I have two main reasons for doing things
Mehira: Number one: spite. Number two: the aesthetic
Mehira: Okay, fine, I lied. Number three: attention
Lucretia, at any given time: Seems like I’m full of rage
Mehira: Gaslight
Mehira: Gatekeep

Actually, the game has said that there were 2 Hypogean wars, and the war the game is in currently is the 2nd. Morael and Audrae were born wayyyy before the 1st Hypogean war. So those lines could be talking about the 1st war with the Hypogeans.
I know the timeline is vague and a mess in general but Morael's story makes it clear that Hypogean War finally concludes at some point.
They have won but the threat is still present.
I wish we knew more about the aftermath and the casualties. Who perished and who lived.
