Origins

The humble aster is a misunderstood flower. They're often confused with daisies, and some even consider them to be weedy because of how easily they grow. These little, dainty blooms have a big, rich history behind them and a Greek legend telling the story of how they got their name. Asters were named after the Greek word for β€˜star’. Because, when the Greek god, Astraea, was upset by how few stars there were in the sky she started to cry. And where her tears hit the ground, they turned into asters. Cool story right?

Meaning and symbolism

In general, asters are considered to symbolize love, affection, and wisdom. In the Victorian flower language, they also carried the meaning of daintiness, patience, and charm. However, the specific color of an aster can change its meaning.
