Alice Through The Looking Glass - Tumblr Posts
«And certainly the glass was beginning to melt away, just like a bright silvery mist.
In another moment Alice was through the glass, and had jumped lightly down into the Looking-glass room»
«‘Here are the Red King and the Red Queen,’ Alice said (in a whisper, for fear of frightening them), ‘and there are the White King and the White Queen sitting on the edge of the shovel— and here are two castles walking arm in arm— I don’t think they can hear me,’ she went on, as she put her head closer down, ‘and I’m nearly sure they can’t see me. I feel somehow as if I were invisible —»

Ok so I'm going to cheat a bit, since I've essentially only been working on one big project this year, and choose 5 illustrations from it (instead of 5 different things).
Here they are! All from my art school graduation project on «Alice through the Looking Glass» (Lewis Caroll). It was a very long and sometimes painful process but I am so proud of the result!
+ Bonus : a couple pictures of the finished books, board and cards!

JABBERWOCKY
‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
‘Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jujub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!’
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two!! One, two!! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
‘And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Calloh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.
‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
‘And can all the flowers talk?’
‘As well as you can,’ said the Tiger-lily. ‘And a great deal louder.’
«‘She’s coming!’ cried the Larkspur. ‘I hear her footstep, thump, thump, thump, along the gravel-walk!’
Alice looked round eagerly, and found that it was the Red Queen. ‘She’s grown a good deal!’ was her first remark.
She had indeed: when Alice first found her in the ashes, she had been only three inches high—and here she was, half a head taller than Alice herself!»
«‘I declare it’s marked out just like a large chess-board!’ Alice said at last. ‘There ought to be some men moving about somewhere— and so there are!’ She added in a tone of delight, and her heart began to beat quick with excitement as she went on. ‘It’s a great huge game of chess that’s being played— all over the world— if this is the world at all, you know.»
‘Tickets, please!’ said the Guard, putting his head in at the window. In a moment everybody was holding out a ticket: they were about the same size as the people, and quite seemed to fill the carriage.
‘— then you don’t like all insects?’ the Gnat went on, as quietly as if nothing had happened.
‘I like them when they can talk,’ Alice said.
‘None of them ever talk, where I come from.’
Alice laughed. ‘There’s not use trying,’ she said: ‘one can’t believe impossible things.’
‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!’
Sharing this again bc love it

Season: Autumn Object: Alice through the looking glass
"Through the looking Glass was originally published in December of 1871 by Lewis Carroll," your lit partner says in slight monotone, informative voice.
"No wonder i feel like my head is going to pop off when reading it." Your eyes practically roll into the back of your head, as you drape you legs across a chair in the quiet study room. Looking outside, the leaves of the large oaks are red and yellow and tell you that the warmth and quiet of the library is a nice trade for the nip of the cold air outside if you had worked in the court yard.
You weren't planning on ever speaking to the boy in your class who possibly had the best hair, most beautiful eyes and greatest way with words out of everyone on campus, but now you were forced to do a project on a book that you severely struggled to enjoy. Now you were forced to and after working for hours in the library with the boy that made you feel giddy like a young child. His wise words made you realize the quality of the boom and you started the to believe that fate might be a real thing, and he was yours.
long has paled that sunny sky
echoes fade and memories die

Alice Through The Looking Glass concept done on 5″ x 7″ scratchboard.
I chose the scene where Alice runs into the talking flowers while they’re trying to figure out what she is. This is for the Illustration section of my Foundation Seminar class.

Sometimes reading Arthuriana feels like reading Alice in Wonderland.
“Well,” said Alice, “these are a dreadfully strange assortment of objects!”
“They all symbolize different aspects of Our Lord’s martyrdom,” said the Fisher King, casting a line into his teacup.
“Indeed. I am sure everything symbolizes something else, for if everything was only itself I should be very confused. Might I ask what the point of the bleeding lance is?”
Alice regretted asking the question as soon as she had done so, for she saw the pun that would likely be made about the word point. Instead, however, the room erupted in applause and shouts of “The Grail! She has achieved the Grail!”
The next castle she visited, Alice resolved to herself as the inhabitants of this one danced for joy, would be more sensible.
