So Let’s Talk About Body Language.

So Kallura stans have replayed this scene over and over again because the Space Dance is Kallura gold. But I haven’t seen anyone address this particular aspect of this scene. So take this:

This particular screen shot is at the end of the spin right before the image changes to Allura’s point of view of Keith’s concerned look. Allura posture here is hunched over. Her shoulders are up high and her head is low. Her back is hunched in and she’s looking up at Keith. She’s unconsciously making her body appear smaller. Her knees are up and relatively close together.

This is a classic posture of distress. Animals will often hunch over like this in the face of an Alpha to seem less threatening, or to beg the larger animal for protection. Humans will sometimes do the same in extreme distress. The less space they take up, the greater the stress. Keith is projecting confidence and strength as a response to her vulnerability. His shoulders are pulled back and his stance is wide. He’s opened up his hips and legs to better draw her in. His hands are close to his heart and he’s pulling her into him.

A confident pose will show the person with shoulders back, legs and hips wide. Think of a classic superhero pose. This works in real life too. Throw your shoulders back and stand with your legs hip width apart and you instantly project confidence and strength.

So the argument can be made that Allura’s posture is natural in the face of trauma and a space ship blowing up from under them is nothing if not traumatic, but this is one of the few times we’ve seen Allura so vulnerable. It’s also about Keith’s inherit response to her need for comfort. Instead of responding the same way, which he does a bit when he first catches her, he quickly changes his stance in response to her emotional need. Her body is saying, “I need your help, protect me please.” His body is saying, “You can trust me, I’ll protect you.” Just adds another level of beauty to this lovely scene.

keith’s hands are so big?? and allura’s are so tiny? he can envelop her entire hand with his do you understand what i’m saying here?? if allura’s hands are cold boom there’s her boyfriend to the rescue he’ll hold them and warm them up. allura’s teeny hands on keith’s shoulders or his face or his chest? absolutely precious good lord keith is blessed. soulmates.
