his fathers compass...his father's moral compass??

the fact that snow wished he looked more like his mother but everybody tells him he looks like his father.

Then right before leaving district 12 his mothers compact and his family photos get ruined. the only thing from his box of personal items remain is his fathers compass, even though it had been drowned in the lake.

solidifying that he loses the last shred of compassion or humanity or whatever goodness he has in him before returning to the capitol. Only his father remains inside him while others fade away.
