Smartphone or Smart Aleck? You decide.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one who ever looked at the “Learn Spelling” prompt in Pages and assumed the app had evolved to roast me.

The Olympics Opening Ceremony are tonight and I'm already overdosing on the ice skating that started airing Thursday afternoon here. And this shall continue for the next two weeks, 'cuz I love ice skating and what the heck, it's the pandemic and I'm not doing much anyway.

It makes me want the AU where Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes grew up together in Brooklyn, modern times, and both started skating. Only Bucky took advantage of his mother's dual citizenship to skate for Romania. Steve gets dubbed Captain America for his blond hair, blue eyes, and aggressively brash style. Early on in his career, Bucky skates in all black with epaulets, which combined with his icy precision, gets him dubbed the Winter Soldier.

After they compete against each other in the Olympics (the first double gold in male figure skating?), they both skate out together on the ice for the exhibitions, and perform a routine that combines ice dancing with some pair elements, blowing everyone away. Because they had some ups and downs over the years, but always hated the way the press tried to use the 'childhood friends turned competitors' theme, and though they didn't like the secrecy, they also didn't want their love dragged into every single press conference. But they're retiring, getting married, and going to be coaches together, so it's time to come out.

Or something like that, I just wanna picture those costumes on ice skaters. :-)  

I looked at this little guy (who I copied from somewhere and I no longer know where) and thought about mistletoe stories but how would a toad get the mistletoe? And thought… it should be Sam, wandering out on the bayou, and there’s a toad, and maybe Sam is a little drunk and talks to the toad about his life, and at some point he goes to brush off his shoulder and realizes that there’s a piece of mistletoe on it (maybe he was helping his sister make mistletoe sprigs for the party he wandered away from?), so he laughs, and says what the heck, and kisses the toad, and it turns into Bucky! Who obviously is a prince who has been put under a spell that Sam has now broken.

That’s not really a mistle-toad, that’s a toad under the mistletoe, but it amused me. And it is Christmas, so best wishes on a lovely holiday.
