And If You Skip Over It His Actions In Civil War Make Him Seem Like The Bad Guy - Tumblr Posts

I'm still very confused about how would Steve know about the truth of who killed Tony's parents.

People say the in the end of the first Cap movie, the last scene, it was hinted that he'd know. But I seriously don't remember that

And even when Steve worked for SHIELD, not even them know who actually was the Winter Soldier, and when Steve figured who it was, all the files from SHIELD were already released by Natasha. So if Steve knew, Tony would also know. Because they'd have access to same files, and everybody knew Bucky Barnes from the WWW2

So, how would Steve know? Canonically, within all the movies?

I think the scene you are referring is the one in the former SHIELD hideout in that one abandoned military complex Steve and Natasha go to. While talking to Zola, who boasts about Hydra having influenced internationally important events, there's a monitor that shows a bunch of pictures in quick succession. One of them was an article about Howard and Maria Stark's death in a car crash. The problem is... it's blink and you miss it. I watched the movie several times and you only recognise it if you pause. I never did that. That's why Steve's confession that he knew about Bucky killing Tony's parents came at a total surprise to me. I even thought that Steve was lying to divert Tony's anger from Bucky to himself. I only came upon a post about this one scene months later and realistically, I don't know how Steve was supposed to see this headline about Howard dying and immediately conclude that Bucky was the one who killed him. Maybe I'm not remembering the conversation right, but it just didn't make sense to me for the longest time. Now I know that the Russos simply needed to sow some conflict for Civil War. Which is why Steve does something that seems so out of character for him.

You are right that logically, Tony definitely should have known the truth about his parents' murder. As long as the Winter Soldier files were uploaded along with all the others. I don't really remember if they were, however, so I'd be grateful if someone else could chime in and clear this up for us. In this scenario, Tony could have easily found out the truth, if he bothered to have one of his AIs sort through the material, at least. And if he didn't then… that's kind of on him. Steve could have easily believed that Tony knew all along and still taken the blame in the hopes of distracting Tony from Bucky. But Steve antis are so focused on blaming Steve for every wrong ever committed in the MCU (and comics) that we can't have that discussion.
