And I'm Trying To Figure Out What/how - Tumblr Posts

@lostchasingsilver asked for a digital coloring tutorial and i got so excited that i choked up and realized that I have no idea what I’m doing. Here are some notes (and I apologize again)
Extra notes:
Adding random bits of color to your base adds a bit of dynamicism. I call that borking.
Analogous colors are comforting and balanced. If you want to punch some eyes in the face, add in a complementary color to make it pop more.
There are like at least 30 blending modes in krita play around with all of them i just usually go with these
FILTER YOUR PAINTING. In krita it looks like this (or with brightness/contrast):

You can change up (fix) your contrast, make your painting lighter, darker, etc. Also keep in mind that your screen and other’s are configured differently... which is something that personally bites me in the ass. This also applies to pictures of traditional art.
The painting process above only really takes you 60~ percent of the way. Afterward is fixing things that need to be fixed, adding more detail, etc.
Yes, I’m dead serious that you can use overlay for borking, shading, and highlighting. In the case of shading, since overlay is such a finicky mode to deal with, sometimes you can also use it to increase contrast between a “shadow” and a “highlight”. Overlay can be really finicky though, and even though you could make an entire painting in overlay, you probably shouldn’t.
For example, if you’re painting a person of color, keep in mind that softlight and overlay will usually have a lightening effect, so be careful on how your colors interact to avoid accidental whitewashing. Bork, but bork responsibly!
You don’t have to be ultra proud of everything you make!! Sometimes things don’t turn out the way you like and you feel bad but that’s ok! The most important part is the learning experience! (... at this point this is more for me to be honest...) And then you realize where you screwed up and you work on not making the same mistake again.
If you want to see the full versions of the pictures above they are over here.
Y’all have a good night (morning? afternoon? ... evening?)
