I am learning to live in synchrony with the sun, taking my showers in the afternoon when the solar heater has warmed the water, charging my phone during the day instead of at night, going to bed sooner and rising earlier to save electricity.
I am learning to live in synchrony with the seasons, spending more time outside in the summer, and more time inside studying in the winter, planting my seeds when the time is right, making wild garlic pesto in the spring, picking berries in the summer, collecting chestnuts as laundry detergent in the autumn.
I am learning to live in synchrony with myself, giving myself time to rest, accepting that the downs are a part of life as much as the ups, trusting that a period of low motivation will be followed by periods of inspiration and high energy.
I am learning that viewing life as cyclical instead of linear makes me feel more at ease with the inevitable changes that take place all around me.
"And so you ask for my help in your time of need?" A sneer crept into Ylla's tone.
"I never said I was asking." Aethren raised their hand and clenched their fist. Thrigg gasped sharply as she felt the wyrdness clench around them. There was nothing subtle or delicate about what Aethren did. Thrigg and her fellow hrafmaer manipulated and wove, carefully guiding the wyrdness to influence the physical world; Aethren called out to it with sheer bloody-minded willpower, and demanded that it listen. The threads wound tight, and Ylla shuddered as the very fabric of her body was gathered into Aethren's grasp.
"Aethren..." It was difficult to talk. The air felt thick and sluggish, and Thrigg had to fight to get enough in her lungs to use. Aethren wasn't directing their power at Thrigg, but they'd tangled her up in it anyway.
Thrigg should have felt afraid, or angry, or at least slightly disturbed. Instead, she just wanted to take Aethren's face in her hands and kiss them until they were as breathless as her. Maybe that made Thrigg a bad person, but it felt so good to see Ylla squirm. And after everything that Thrigg had struggled through because of Ylla, didn't she deserve to get a little vicious?
