Duck Detective: Select Skin 🦆🕵️
A couple months ago, I stumbled upon Duck Detective by Happy Broccoli Games, as a dedicated duck enthusiast, I simply had to do some homage including some of my favourite duck species. The game's lovely flair looks absolutely delightful. 🦆

This bird has had too much of the suet feed! It's going to need to sleep that off before taking flight again...

the masked lapwing is a large bird found in australia, new zealand, and new guinea. they are commonly found by the edges of wetlands and open fields, where they primarily feed on worms. although fairly docile and reclusive through much of the year, they are known for their extreme defensiveness during the breeding season. when fighting or scaring off potential predators, they use the bright yellow spurs on their wings. although they are sometimes referred to as ‘masked plovers’, they aren’t a member of the plover subfamily.
birds whose existence defies gender essentialism

bilateral gynandromorph northern cardinal! the left side of this bird’s body is female, and the other side is male. they can still hypothetically reproduce, as birds (mostly) only have one functioning ovary, on the left side!

bilateral gynandromorph rose-breasted grosbeak! the same case as above, just a different species.

chickens. just all chickens. they can just defy our boundaries of sex.

the white-throated sparrow, which is considered to have four sexes!

the ruff, which also has four distinct sexes! their breeding behavior is really unlike any other bird

ducks, which can also change appearance to show plumage associated with the opposite sex!
this is really just a jumping off point since birds don’t conform generally to human expectations for sex and gender - which is fair since they’re often pretty arbitrary!
