Bracers - Tumblr Posts

Hi all! After one of the busiest months yet, I finally have some time to share a few images of my most recent creations with you. :)
I’m really excited to continue making new designs with the dragon scale pattern, and can’t wait to share some new themed designs with all of you here soon.
Wishing you and your families all the best during these uncertain times.
I look forward to days when we’ll all be able to go out questing together safely again. ❤️
Until then all my love to you, and may you be in good health.

I made a fresh pair of dragon-scaled leather bracers. I was happy about these because I recently had an idea for a way to speed up the forming and staining process, and it worked! This pair was much faster to make than previous sets! In fact, the difference in speed was enough that I decided to reduce the price. Also, the color turned out smoother than the earlier sets I made, but that could have just been a factor of the particular leather and stain.

I've been really busy for the last couple weeks getting ready for a convention I'll be vending at next weekend, and haven't had much chance to post photos of things. So I thought I'd just post a couple in-progress shots to prove that I'm still alive. Here we've got some studded bracers (showing the front and the underside); a bracer with a celtic knot pattern cut through; and what will become a cover for a small Moleskine notebook, similar to this one. (This one I made just for myself. The interrobang is my favorite punctuation mark. It's used when you're both excited and unsure.)
I already talked about Nauticon in a previous post, so I won't go on too much about it. It promises to be raucous and bawdy, and I think it'll be a lot of fun. I've still got a good amount of work left to get ready for it, but the goal is in sight.

Just a quick photo of armor pieces I realized I hadn't posted. It's 3 different types of bracers I prepared for the convention I was vending at a couple weekends ago. The dragon-scaled one in the middle is a design that I originally did some time ago, but made a fresh copy of for the convention, which sold pretty promptly. The one on the right was a plain one that I did as a quick test of buckling these on instead of lacing them. And the one on the left was a new design that I'm currently referring to as dragon-rider bracers.

I finally made some leather armor!
For some time I’ve been meaning to get going on some larger leather designs, I just needed a kick to get moving. That kick came in the form of Nauticon, a convention I was vending at a couple weeks ago. This year the theme was the Aegean Sea, so I made some gladiator-appropriate armor designs with a motif of large overlapping plates.
And I just finished getting these all up on my Etsy shop! Links below.
The shoulder armor was way harder to get right than I’d expected. The first 2 prototypes I did had the overlapping plates riveted to each other so they would hinge at those points, but that turned out to harshly limit their movement in other directions. So the final design has the plates attached down onto a pair of straps underneath.
The gladiator belt was much more straightforward, but I had a lot of fun with breaking it up into big scales to give it texture and character.
The scaled bracers are actually an older design, but still a favorite of mine. I have a new design that matches the motif of the others, but I was dumb and dyed it in black instead of matching the brown on the others, so I don’t have photos of it yet.
And then there’s the codpiece. I am unreasonably happy to have designed this, so even though I’m also kind of embarrassed about it I’m posting it up. I actually even made a few different cup designs, so maybe there will be more of those floating by soon.

Made these scaled bracers recently, it’d been quite a while since someone ordered this design. They’re always fun to make though. Wet-forming the scales to point up and give it texture always takes more force than I remember. Finding a good source for paracord definitely made the laces more reasonable, though.
Available on my Etsy store as always!

My contribution to @magicmeatmarch this year! It’s a set of armor fit for a light and swift fighter. It protects the important parts while avoiding restrictions on mobility.
I’d been wanting to make a larger breatplate-type item for a while, this felt like a good excuse. I went with the overlapping plates motif that I’ve used in a number of other projects. It’s secured in place with Too Many Buckles along the sides. When it’s all tightened up it has a bit of a corset nature, straightening up your posture. Made it a bit tricky to do the over-the-top twisting-to-show-off-tits-and-butt poses. But I persevered.
The codpiece, bracers and cuisses were older designs, but it’s always good to fit them into matching outfits.

Here's a pair of dragon-scaled leather bracers! The shaping on the scales is always fun.
It's been a while since I was able to get any good full-outfit photos with this design, I need to put together a fresh armor set that I can swap pieces in and out of.
Obligatory Etsy link!

A pair of simple bracers / arm guards made for a local.
It's been a while since I made some of these, and I'm happy with the material and technique improvements since then. Better edges, new black dye that I trust better for dyeing the underside. It did make me want to revisit and update the base pattern though.
