went through a bad breakup recently. i found a little ring he gave me still hiding in one of my drawers.

he gave it to me as a promise that he’d never leave, that he’d be there forever

i threw it in the lake

we weren’t forever, but the lake is and the water is and the rock that ring was made out of will be and to me that’s enough

I also wanna add onto this a little bit, veering from things to look out for:

Please make sure that even if you are in a wonderful relationship that you are still making an effort to reach out to your friends. Talk to them! Go hang out with them! Don’t completely ignore them or let them fall by the wayside because you’re so infatuated with your partner & want to spend all of your time with them. Your friends are important too.

This is something I am guilty of, and luckily my friends have hearts huge enough to recognize that even if we hadn’t talked for a while, that didn’t mean we weren’t friends anymore or that I hated them.

We’re not together anymore for unrelated reasons, and now I find that I have so much more time to talk to the people I’d been neglecting. It would have been great if I could have talked to them the whole time.

Reach out to your friends! I promise your partner will still be there when you get back :)

If EVERYBODY in your life hates your significant other then they are the problem. If it is one or two people like a family member you have a turbulent relationship with and one friend who’s always been kind of jealous, maybe they just hate your success. But most of the time that is not the case and the people who are closest to you and love you and have had your back for years probably know when your new relationship is toxic and/or doomed.
