Strange Is Talking! - Tumblr Posts
i find it infinitely funny when large corporations use windows for their deployed applications. for example when a franchise opens a new restaurant and all of their POS systems use windows and run windows software. the corp had to pay money for those licenses, likely in a bulk discounted way but still funny
literally listening to spotify while having the tumblr app open causes my music to stutter and cut out. this is a text and image webbed site why on earth are you using so much wam that you cause other apps to be jettisoned
if my car ever breaks down in a beautiful winter storm I’ll simply scroll tumblr for a few minutes and the heat my phone generates will let me survive indefinitely
Hey! I wouldn’t mind switching from Windows to Linux on my personal computer (been using Ubuntu in several programming jobs I’ve had, that’s the one I’m most familiar with) but the videogames ;____; Is it hard to get videogames working on Linux?
Video games are hit or miss. You can find a lot of info on if a certain game will work by going to protondb.com. Notable incompatibilities include: Genshin Impact, Rainbow 6 Siege, & Valorant all because of their anticheat. That said, huge strides have been made with Proton and Wine, which are compatibility layers for windows apps running on linux. This is what has enabled the Steam Deck, which is a linux-based console, to thrive.
In the event a game doesn’t work out of the box, either natively or through steam’s Proton, check the protondb entry for it. It’ll probably have some tinker steps to get it working.
it works but god forbid you’re trying to go to anywhere that’s not in the city or at the end of a line. lucky all my business is in the city.
Test Post

so i had my halloween party in may instead of october. because i figured, if people can have christmas in july, then why can’t i have halloween in may? it was a blast, to say the least. we had 18 people in the house, everyone came in costume.
i was thinking just now: “wait, if i had my october in may, then what month would be be right now?” so i ran the numbers and figured out that it is currently march 22nd, however:

because my february falls on real september, i can’t progress to march until real september finishes. this means, however, that my july gets a couple of days chopped off at the end.
alternatively i could just let my march continue at a normal pace? but then i would be off by a couple of days for a few months while the real world catches up.
i have a small moral conundrum and i'd like the webbed site best known for its morality (/s) to help me:
i have a mac, specifically an m2 pro. the thing is a beast, i got it as a gift because I finished my first year at uni with straight A's. i love it to bits because it can handle anything i throw at it, big or small.
apple released something in the past few months that lets you play windows games on mac, which is huge. seriously. it is monumental that they did this. unfortunately, it is not a silver bullet. there are still a handful of games that are not playable no matter what you do, and as somebody who has used linux for years, i am very comfortable and familiar with tinkering. it used to be that you could check protondb.com to see if a game ran at all, but unfortunately because this windows-games-on-mac tech is so new, the corresponding website doesn't exist yet (or if it does I haven't heard of it).
now, as somebody with a limited amount of money, whenever I see a game that i want, i can't immediately go out and get it. I get this is a very first-world problem to have, but also if I do have the money, i want to be damn sure it can run on my computer. unfortunately there is no way that I know of to do this other than..... pirating the game.
(booing ensues)
I KNOW! i know. big studios can afford to swallow the loss of lil ol me pirating a single copy, i'm just more concerned about the smaller indie studios that produce some quality content. i'm talking aggro crab (subway midnight, etc), bluetwelve (stray), and more. i've seen people play their games, that's what makes me want to buy them in the first place and support the studio, but I simply cannot do that until i know that i can enjoy it at least a little for myself.
here's the point of this post:
is it okay to pirate a game with the sole purpose of ensuring that it can run on my computer before buying it?
kind of like getting a demo, if the publisher doesn't already offer one.
i'd also like to point out that this wouldn't otherwise be an issue if i was running windows (or even linux, again with protondb.com). i'm aware of steam's two-hour refund policy. however, due to the experimental nature of running windows games on mac with this new compatibility layer, things get complicated.
that's all for now. hopefully somebody will notice this post if i throw it into the ether.
love u all <3
hello
hello ms pecan! how are u today

the boopbeam.

found it. i'm about to become so insufferable
how do i... boopbeam.......
I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED
HOW TO BOOPBEAM UNDER THE CUT

STRAP IN BOYS THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG ONE
ok so.
you need Bun. It's a JavaScript runtime for the server (your computer). It's what runs the little script I made that automates the booping. Copy-paste the little one-liner into your terminal of choice and hit enter.
2. download this file here. THIS IS THE BOOPINATOR!
3. You'll need a couple pieces of information. What you want to do is go to tumblr.com on a computer, then open up the developer tools. Usually Ctrl (or Cmd) + Shift + I (that's an eye). Head to the tab labelled Network.
4. With the network tab open, boop somebody! However you do it. Either by the boop button next to their name, or the paw icon on their profile. Boop somebody!
5. You should see a new entry in the Network tab labeled "boop". Click on it.
6. You should see a bunch of new tabs to the side. One of them will be named "Headers". Click on that if it isn't already selected.
7. Scroll down to where it says "Request Headers" (NOT RESPONSE HEADERS!) and copy THREE values into the boopinator.ts file you downloaded: • Your "Cookie". Copy that whole value into line 39; replace the bit where it says "YOUR COOKIE HERE" (and keep the quotes!) • Your "Authorization". Copy that whole value (including the "Bearer") into line 38; replace the bit that says "YOUR TOKEN HERE (starts with Bearer)" (and keep the quotes!) • Your "X-Csrf". Copy that value into line 85; replace the bit where it says "FIRST CSRF TOKEN" (and keep the quotes!).
I cannot stress this enough these three values are extremely sensitive and should not be shared ever.
8. In a terminal, navigate to the directory you downloaded boopinator.ts (usually with the cd command) Run: bun boopinator.ts and it *should* start going! Optional 9. You can replace the URLs at the top of the file with the URLs of the people you wanna boop. The script will choose between them at random every time it boops somebody, which is about once per second.
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS you have started the boopbeam! It should now run forever, assuming Tumblr doesn't cut you off. They will eventually, your cookie will expire, but that should be good for about 1000 boops. Occasionally you'll get hit with a 429 error; the script will recover from that automatically, but any other error will cause it to stop in its tracks and wait for you to restart it. An authorization error, for example, means you need to grab those three values again (see step 7).
If you have any questions, my DMs should be open? Or just reblog this post with your question and I'll clarify as much as I can.
it seems like tumblr's api has two ways of responding to too many requests. One way will actually respond with a 200 OK and set some error metadata stating that I made too many requests. The other way is a proper 429 Ratelimited, at which point my client will attempt to recover the same way it handles the not-429 429. I'm not sure if this is what tumblr is intending to do, or if they've made changes to the API under the hood throughout the day to keep knuckleheads like myself from causing too much trouble.
I've been.. testing the limits of the API, gradually increasing the length of time between booping. This morning I was able to do 500 ms between boops, then it started ratelimiting me like crazy, and so I increased it to 1000 ms. That went fine for the majority of the day, and now every 10 boops or so, I get ratelimited.
I also, just for sanity sake, introduce a little bit of jitter to the delay time. It's not precisely 1000 ms each time around, it's somewhere between 1000 and 1500. Just to see if I can throw off the API a little bit.
I also wanna add onto this a little bit, veering from things to look out for:
Please make sure that even if you are in a wonderful relationship that you are still making an effort to reach out to your friends. Talk to them! Go hang out with them! Don’t completely ignore them or let them fall by the wayside because you’re so infatuated with your partner & want to spend all of your time with them. Your friends are important too.
This is something I am guilty of, and luckily my friends have hearts huge enough to recognize that even if we hadn’t talked for a while, that didn’t mean we weren’t friends anymore or that I hated them.
We’re not together anymore for unrelated reasons, and now I find that I have so much more time to talk to the people I’d been neglecting. It would have been great if I could have talked to them the whole time.
Reach out to your friends! I promise your partner will still be there when you get back :)
If EVERYBODY in your life hates your significant other then they are the problem. If it is one or two people like a family member you have a turbulent relationship with and one friend who’s always been kind of jealous, maybe they just hate your success. But most of the time that is not the case and the people who are closest to you and love you and have had your back for years probably know when your new relationship is toxic and/or doomed.
holy shit i forgot to post my twitch url here as well whenever i stream. i've been playing half life 1 for the past couple of days. i've never played it before, i know next to nothing about it and so i'm going in completely blind. my friends are going insane over this: that in the year of our lord 2024 i am playing a legendary game from 1998 for the first time
Similarly, I remember playing Guess Who with my friend, but instead of the usual “is this person a male” or “does this person have piercings” we would ask things like “does your person work as a barista?” “is your person into scientology?” and things like that. entirely vibes-based Guess Who.
The last time we were on a long flight, my wife and I invented a game we call "Little Guy."
You start a game of Little Guy by saying, "I'm gonna hand you a little guy." The little guy is some kind of baby animal you are imagining. "Oh," she might say in response, "Okay," and hold out her hands for it. I will then mime handing her the animal. This provides some clues as to the little guy's size, weight, and general ungainliness.
She then gets to ask questions about what kind of little guy this is, BUT NO QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS ACTUAL APPEARANCE OR SPECIES ARE ALLOWED. Qualitative questions, or questions about his behavior, are the only ones permitted. She can ask "Is he soft?" or "Does he seem nervous about being held?" or "If I put him in the bathtub, does he seem okay with that?" or "Would he like a lil grape?" or "Is he the sort of little fellow who would wear a vest in a children's book?" but not "Does he have fur," "Is he a reptile," "Is he from Asia," etc. Some questions are in a grey area so you have to follow your heart, but the point is not to identify the animal as fast as possible: the point is to guess the animal purely based on vibes + how he would act if he were in your living room right now.
And I'm not limited to yes or no answers! If she asks, "Would it feel appropriate to see this little guy in a propeller hat?" I can reply, "Oh no, he has a gravity to him. A bowler hat would be a more appropriate hat." Or if she asks, "Does this little guy have protagonist energy?" I can say something like, "he probably wouldn't be the main character in a children's cartoon. He'd probably be the main character's ditzy best friend who's always eating sandwiches, or something."
We're big Twenty Questions to kill time in a waiting room people, but Little Guy is more about the journey than the destination. It's got a different kind of sauce that's nice if "killing time" and "lowering anxiety" need to happen hand in hand.
Bro I WISH the queue limit was 9,999. I'd hit it in a week
i respect your dedication to an unending queue. i aspire to reach this level of success. (what actually is the queue limit?)
i only have one sideblog and it’s a VERY SPECIFIC gimmick so unfortunately i cannot as easily queue on that sideblog but when i do come across a Post, you bet your ass it immediately gets reposted
occasionally when a post is REALLY good, i’ll both put it in my queue (easily 500+ posts long) AND i’ll immediately reblog it
good afternoon tumblr :]
for those who do not know this about me already, i stream. i stream whatever i feel like. lately it's been a whole lot of half life and modded minecraft.
i've been looking for solutions to get out of the hellscape that is twitch.tv, but unfortunately it has such a chokehold on the livestream market that it is extremely difficult to escape. and so, to mitigate this, i have actually set up my own streaming platform. for now, only i can stream to it, but i may open it up in the future to whoever wants to.
the url is https://live.strange.boats. i'll go live there literally whenever with no set schedule. and, because it's my own platform, i get to do all sorts of crazy shit that would literally never fly on twitch. feel free to stop by whenever, i'll probably be live.
i'll still be keeping my usual schedule (mon, wed, sat @ 3pm est) over on twitch, but hopefully having an alternate platform will free me of some of the restrictions twitch imposes.
hope to see you all there o/
