When Bentley (on the left) came to Rancho Relaxo, he had a bad case of cecal dysbiosis. But plenty of fiber and greens cleared him up. I suspect their diets consisted of a lot of treats and starchy stuff.
Bentley (brown and white) and Baxter (black and white) are back at Rancho Relaxo for a few weeks. They lost a bit of weight at the humane society, and Bentley's fur wasn't coming in on his bunny bum. The vet suspects that Baxter is over-grooming him. So they asked me to foster them again, and this time to separate them. So I have to keep an eye on how well they do being apart, as they have been together since birth.
New foster at Rancho Relaxo™, Voltaire. His name was Scout, but everyone felt that was a terrible name so they tasked me with giving him a new one. Pretentious, I know, but whatever. Besides, I'm pretty sure I heard him chewing hay in french.
He's here for a week or so, until they can get him in to be neutered. They have a backlog at the moment.
When Bentley passed away, I had hoped whomever adopted Baxter would try to find a friend for him. Well, turns out the person that adopted him was I. I know I should really try finding another rabbit to pair with him, but I just don't know if I can take on another non-foster permanent rabbit right now. In the meantime, I have read and heard that having a psuedo-rabbit friend has been known to be sometimes helpful for unpaired rabbits, so I bought a surrogate Bentley this week. We'll see how he takes to it, or doesn't.
It's seems to have clicked in Baxter's brain that the kitchen area is where the carrots come from. Every single time I was in the kitchen today, when I turned around, there Baxter was, waiting patiently. He got 6 dime sized carrot chunks today. That's a bit more than I usually give him for treats due to his sensitive GI.
Darmok noshing a banananana. He and Jalad go back to the humane society to get neutered today, and then come back for more fostering tomorrow. Will probably stay here another week or so. Too many rabbits at the shelter at the moment, need to wait for space to open up.
It just boggles my mind that someone decided to abandon this rabbit when they moved. This rabbit obviously loves people, and is possibly one of the friendliest, sweetest rabbits i’ve ever met. Someone must have loved this rabbit once. They don't get this human-friendly by accident.
Well, we'll find him a good home soon enough. In the meantime, I have to come up with a name...
