you know I've thought about this and I think soil scientists might be the collectively nerdiest area-of-study-based group of people I have every come across. like, in every group of people, there are those who are fanatics, but there are also those who are just kind of there without being too obsessed, but every single soil scientist I have met has been totally bananas for soil.

there's someone in every area of study who's just kind of there because they like it well enough
