Calcifer tells Howl about Sophie's situation (and they both feel something to her)
someone i know tried to tell me that the War Themes™️ in howls moving castle were “undertones” and “not explicit” and i was genuinely dumbfounded. they were explaining it to someone else and said out loud “it’s an undertone because it’s never directly addressed” and they were speaking with so much confidence i started to doubt myself. like ? did i misremember ? but no. i did not.
like. i understand the movie is a bit confusing on your first watch. but this person was saying they had watched the movie hundreds of times and it was one of their favourite movies of all time.
and like. same. but. the war themes are very much an explicit overtone that they do directly address many times. like i have watched this movie hundreds of times and it’s one of my favourites. and i did not miss that they actively and openly discuss the war efforts ?? like even during my first watch when i was very confused ?? i was like ? oh okay there’s a war.

Howl's Moving Castle
Tis a well known fact that there are MANY people who are yet to read 'Howl's moving castle' as in the book by Diana.
So,
If you think that the movie howl has a complex personality, you should definitely read the book! He might be a bit of a jerk scratch that,he is one nevertheless I came to accept the way his character was written.
As much as I love the studio ghibli adaptation , the book by diana wynne jones is on another level. I must say that both 'Castle in the air' and 'House of many ways' were as amazing as the first!

I'm pretty sure I would have the same reaction had I watched the movie first...
Since I read the series and then watched the movie, I was gifted with Miyazaki-San's stunning, sweetheart Howl and Hisaishi-san's wonderful ethereal music.
Howl no Ugoku Shiro was definitely worth both reading the books and watching.(Though Diana's Howl is a major jerk and douche)
Diana wynne's Writing is absolutely fantastic to read!
I would recommend reading both castle in the air and house of many ways after the first book.

What about... Howl's Moving Castle crossed with Lockwood & Co? I don't know what it is about Lockwood but he reminds me so much of Howl... maybe the easy, smiling, roll-with-it way about him? 🤷🏻♀️😅 (No idea who'd make a decent George though, haha)

Howl does make a pretty good Lockwood, Sophie makes a good Lucy, and Calcifer makes a good skull, but the rest of them were a bit hard. Heen (the weird dog) ended up as Flo, Turnip Head (a.k.a. Prince Justin) is Quill Kipps, Lettie (Sophie's sister) is Holly, and since there wasn't really anybody else; Markl is George. Hope you like it! :)
