I figured out how Wallace's Avatar Technique works. Here's a snippet from a Contest Appeal I'm writing with Wallace where the master explains for himself.

“I’ve been told your world doesn’t have what I call the Avatar Technique. Since your resident Wallace didn’t invent it for you, I’d love to explain to you what it is. The Avatar Technique is a training method that allows first-stage evolution Pokémon to adapt to the changes in their bodies much more readily when they evolve during a performance or in battle. In short, they skip the awkward stage where they’re still trying to figure out their new bodies and get straight to doing the difficult techniques we all want to see them do. What happens is that first, a Pokémon–or more than one Pokémon–uses a combination of Future Sight and Psychic to see exactly what a Pokémon’s body will be like after it evolves. Then, moves like Psychic and Hex are used to take those images and create avatars of a Pokémon’s future bodies that they can manipulate with their minds. Psychic is then used to create a mental link between the first-stage Pokémon and its later stage avatar, allowing them to get a feel for doing incredible feats in their new bodies before actually obtaining them…And today, I’ll show you the most incredible feats of all.”
