Canvas Size - Tumblr Posts
Hello! I've seen lots of different answers for this so I'm confused, how do you size your art so that it doesn't look all pixelated or 'blown up' when posted to tumblr? When I post my art the quality goes straight down and all the images post in a straight line instead of in squares next to each other (so the post looks like a block and you don't have to scroll). When I've googled this in the past I get a variety of different answers, so I was wondering if you had any advice?
I’m not really sure b/c it doesn’t happen to me :
as for the pictures in a straight line you normally should be able to click and drag them into position :0 if they’re really locked in place, you can try 1)clearing your cache and restarting your browser, or 2) using a different browser. If any of those don’t work then it may be time to contact Tumblr Support :0
(if y’all have any alternative options please don’t hesitate to reply to this post! though I request replying here instead of sending anon messages so my inbox doesn’t get overwhelmed;;)
Hi! I have two questions! I am wondering what resolution you do your work on? :D I'm also wondering if you'll ever sell tutorials on Gumroad? I know people ask you to do Patreon stuff, but Gumroad might make you feel less obligated to constantly upload things for people paying so often, if that makes sense! I hope you have a wonderful day :)
Hey there anon! I always try to work with a resolution of 300dpi, (even more so if it’s a commission/paid work) and my preferred canvas size runs around 2500x2500 (8x8 inches) and up. :>That is a wonderful idea! I find Patreon to be such an overwhelming concept, so maybe I should look into that? I’ll certainly have the time for it by the new year. Great suggestion, thank you so much for it! ❤
Seeing as you draw primarily on a digital medium, would you say a canvas size affects how well you draw? Does it even matter? If it does, how big is your canvas?
To clarify, I mean sizes primarily for characters and character sheets.
canvas size matters to a point. if youre using 100x100 px that'll be pixel art territory, whereas 2000x2000px is a bit more normal for digital painting, but you probably dont want to go too far beyond about 9000(width or height) pixels for your computers sake. also if you plan to print things ever, its smart to save them at 300 dpi.
tldr; anything too small will be too pixellated, anything too big will fry my computer, 2000 ish w/h tends to be kinda the sweet spot
