Mark 10:9.
“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate!”
Marriage has not, and never has been, merely a socioeconomic arrangement. It has never been a pairing of convenience, a temporary alliance meant to cease once husband and wife tire of each other or desire someone else. It has never been a "feel-good" partnership that crumbles as soon as adversity is encountered.
Marriage is, has always been, and always will be the one-flesh union of one man with one woman, a union ordered toward the fruits of mutual support, mutual comfort, and (above all) procreation. It is meant to endure hardship, and through that endurance become even stronger & more devoted. It is one that is not rooted in sociology, but in biology, and predates any conscious human notion of culture or society or civilization.
Scripture makes it clear that Christ takes his Church as his only bride, loving Her so tremendously that he would offer his mortal life on the Cross for Her Eternal Life in his Kingdom. St. Paul reminds us that the husband is head of the family, just as Christ is head of the Church, who is the Mystical Body of Christ. Even in the mystical marriage between Church, we see this union - Christ as the head united with the Church as the body.
We must take a stand for Biblical marriage in these confusing times of ours. Because there are many today who say that marriage can be dissolved for any reason or for no reason at all, who say that marriage is possible between more than two individuals, who say that marriage is possible between people of the same sex, that marriage is possible for a husband and wife who are completely opposed to procreation, and even that marriage is an obsolete and unnecessary institution.
We have two options: to roll over and let the Father of Lies triumph over this Holy Sacrament, or to defend the Truth that the LORD has revealed through Scripture and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Truth is worth defending, Marriage is worth defending, and I pray that God always grants me the courage and strength to do so. I hope he does the same for you, and I hope that you will join me in fighting to preserve Biblical Marriage.
Families are important - so important that the family is referred to as the "Domestic Church" in the Catechism. Mothers & Fathers have a duty to provide for the basic necessities of their children, to display the feminine & masculine virtues respectively to them, to provide a good example of male/female domestic cooperation.
The family is so important that Our Lord entrusted himself to a family during his Incarnation. He entrusted himself to the protection noble St. Joseph, a strong, hardworking, devout man, who taught Our Lord not only his profession, but how to be a virtuous & upright man. He entrusted himself to Our Blessed Lady, who nurtured him without coddling him, sang the Psalms to him as he fell asleep in her arms, and who did everything in her power to provide a happy home for him & St. Joseph, even in spite of poverty & exile.
Let us pray to Our Blessed Mother Most Admirable for an increase in motherly virtue across the world, and to St. Joseph the Glory of Domestic Life & Pillar of Families for an increase in fatherly virtue across the world. Praised and blessed be Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!
