Angela as always was up early every morning. It was just a thing she’d done since she was little. She left the warm bed besides her partner, chills running down her spine when her feet hit the cold wooden floor. When she walked past the door she pulled her white robe off of it, putting it on once she walked down the hallway and to the kitchen. She started a pot of coffee , then proceeded to idly walk around and make herself a small bowl of cereal.

After she finished her cereal the coffee had been brewed, she grabbed her favorite mug and poured her coffee in it along with cream and sugar. Angela walked out onto the balcony attached to her apartment and leaned against the rail gently sipping her coffee as she watched the finish it’s rise.

Lucette had tried her best to calmly walk past Deacon but knew the moment he stopped her with his cane that he no doubt saw Uncle Kane’s still irritated behavior from the argument they had. She opens her mouth to greet Deacon, only to frown in irritation when he assumes that she did something.

“I have done absolutely nothing, Deacon. It is Uncle who you should be asking that particular question to, not me. I merely stood my ground. It was Uncle who got angry at me first. All over an idiotic marriage proposal that I have and had no interest in.” She says haughtily, a scoff in her voice hidden under her words.

One half of her mind was appalled at her tone, mentally strangling her to apologize to both him and Uncle but the other half stomped her foot and was practically breathing smoke out of her nose with anger. Telling her that she was in the right and they were not.

The Armada’s Emissary has noticed his creator’s questionable behavior as of late. He witnessed his short-temper earlier this morning while they were discussing important matters. Every time Deacon spoke to Kane, he found the Commander’s responses to be rash and unusually rushed. Reactions he rarely had - unless something has agitated him as of late.

While walking down one of the hallways, he finds Lucette heading in his direction. Deacon decides to stop Valencia’s princess by holding his cane out in her way, ensuring he had her full attention. Whatever was bothering Kane was likely on her behalf - she’d been causing nothing but trouble to both the Elite and Valencia lately.

Following Deacon over to the side of the large hallway, Lucette casts a quick glance around her to make sure no one was around before finally letting out a heavy sigh, most of her anger draining away. When he asks who had asked for her hand, she could not restrain the eye roll her eyes did, a minor spark of annoyance appearing before dimming down.

“Duke Alfonso VII of Castille. One of the tiny few of human nobles in that stinkhole of Monquista. From what I have heard, he only became duke of that enormous providence a year ago. The Monquistans are quite desperate to have Valencia. Too bad, they will not have it nor me.”

Lucette stares out the side of one of the many large windows in the hallway, her icy blue eyes narrowing into sharp daggers at the thought of marrying that pathetic, obvious excuse of a puppet. Not only will that be humiliation of herself, it would be humiliation of Valencia, of her people! And yet for some reason, her Uncle still insisted on her even considering the proposal! No! She knew exactly why! Her uncle could not resist the opportunity of having a chance to take and control Monquista’s largest providence. Of finally having a chance to bring down the prideful monkeys under his control.

Lucette lets out a small huff of amusement at Deacon’s flat statement. She is a bit surprised that Deacon of all people did not know of this, considering he is Kane’s right hand, but even Kane had plans that the Elites were left in the dark about. She expected nothing less. Hearing Deacon’s guess, she lets out a loud laugh though it wasn’t from amusement. The anger was returning again.

“HA! I wish! No, he is instead upset with me for not accepting the proposal! “Think rationally, Lucette. Just consider it for a single moment, Lucette. You are acting like a spoiled child, Lucette! You are thinking like a commoner, Lucette! Why are you still holding onto that minuscule false hope for Teach, Lucette? You know he is a pirate now, Lucette!” She mocked her Uncle’s words, tears starting to fall down her face and her voice wobbling once she said the name of her old betrothed turned traitor. She did not want to admit that her uncle’s words had hurt, but they always do. She did not want to cry in front of Deacon but he has seen her cry many times already. Once more would be irrelevant.

“I know that as the princess, it is my duty to marry and produce a suitable heir to the throne as soon as it is possible but...I...I am just not ready for marriage. I...I-I just...I don’t know.” She then admits helplessly, wishing once more that Queen was here. Or that Momma was still alive.

Through the veil of her tears, Lucette sees Deacon offer her a handkerchief, taking it from him gingerly and wiping away her tears. She could already that venomous voice waking up in her cage, no doubt woken up by her torment.

“I know I shouldn’t, Deacon, but it’s Edward. I still despise him for what he did and want to make him suffer for it but you know how how us humans are. After that disaster of a betrothal three years ago, I am just scared. There are not many human royals in the Spiral and not too many human nobility. What if I cannot find someone compatible?” She worries, her old fears popping up once again. When she and Edward had been betrothed to each other as children and grew up together, she had naively thought that he was her Prince Charming from fairy tales. Now all of those old feelings were coming back to bite and they were biting hard.

Lucette’s eyes widen when she hears that Uncle Kane was regretting the argument between them, a small smile appearing on her face.

“I do too. I just feel like...After Edward, Uncle promised me that he would not force me to marry anyone as long as I did choose someone by the time I am crowned Queen. I just feel like Uncle is going back on his word.”

Lucette lets a short laugh at Deacon’s words of Kane’s unpredictability, but then stops when he talks about Kane caring. She of course knew that her Uncle cared about her, she would not be here if he did not, but it never truly occurred to her that how much it showed. She had always assumed that whenever Kane shown displeasure or anger with her that it was a sign of him getting tired of her.

“You...you are right, Deacon. I should have thought more deeply about Uncle’s reactions and behaviors. He is not a simple...clockwork man.” She quietly admits, a sense of shame creeping up her arms. She raises a single black eyebrow when Deacon suggested that she have an honest conversation with her Uncle after they had an argument but she then realizes her mistake and mentally smacks herself, her expression shifting into one of embarrassment. Of course after an argument, especially now that they both had some space from each other. Though it would probably be best to save it until tonight or early tomorrow before lessons. Just in case.

“You’re right, Deacon. Maybe it is time that Uncle and I have a true discussion like adults rather than yelling at each other like children. It may not change his stance on the matter but...maybe it would help him realize that I am not withholding my approval out of spite or for Teach. I am just waiting for the right prince or noble to woo me off my feet and for him to be worthy of Valencia and her people. I am certain that Uncle wouldn’t like some inexperienced fool to have some control of Valencia, no?” She asks, a sly gin blooming upon her lips with her rising mood. Only to sour again when she felt her stirring about and getting ready to say something. Before Deacon’s progress could be ruined, she threw her back into the cage and turned her attention once more on Deacon, making sure to wipe away any trace of discomfort or annoyance from her face.

Lucette raises a single eyebrow when Deacon stopped midway into his sentence, something he rarely does. Too late, though, she already knew what he was insinuating. As if she hadn’t listen to Kane rant dozens of times.Only to freeze when Deacon points out that he saw her expression change that she had tried to hide and asked her if there was something else going on.

“Deacon, I alrea-AH!” She was about to speak until a sharp pain from her skull interrupts her, forcing her to bend over and grab her head to attempt to ease the pain. No, no,no, she can’t be doing this NOW.

“No, no, I’m fine. It’s nothing.” Lucette tries to wave away Deacon’s worry, only to groan again as another sharp wave of pain hits her head, stumbling a bit. When he asks her if seeing Kane would help, she hastily shakes her head, pausing only for a second to consider it. When she did, the pain got much worse, prompting a whimper out of her.

“No, please, do not bother Uncle.” She begs, handling another onslaught of pain before it finally ebbed away, leaving her panting for air. She should go see Kane, knowing him, he could help her in some way but Lucette’s pride absolutely refused. What would her think of her, seeing her in such a sorry state? But he has already seen her in worse states before!

Blue eyes peeked up at Deacon through her dark hair as Lucette considered her choice. The last time she talked to Uncle about her...headaches and the voice, he started to act a bit strange and secretive, telling her that if it happened again or got worse to go to him. So she wouldn’t be doing anything wrong, but...

“Are you certain that he isn’t busy with other business? I really do not want to disturb him with my unwanted problems.” She asks, holding onto Deacon’s hand tightly so she wouldn’t fall. Others would find the coldness of the clockwork’s hand startling but she found comfort in the chill. It grounded her, in a way.  “I do believe it would be smart to inform Uncle about this but...”

She did not know why she stopped but she did anyway. But what? But her foolish pride? But she was still angry? She wasn’t. Her anger has evaporated  into thin air long ago. But that doesn’t mean Kane’s own did.

“You are right, Deacon but still, I..” She tried again but still, something was stopping her.

Deacon’s words of Kane dropping more important things for her surprise her but at the same time they didn’t. She knew that her Uncle cared about her dearly, but sometimes, its nice to hear it reaffirmed from someone else.

“You are right. If...if you are certain that Uncle would not mind us intruding.” She gives in, cowering behind Deacon as they approached the door.

‘How do you know that dear Uncle Kane won’t turn you away?’

Lucette cannot tell if those were her fears whispering or her. Another vicious headache ripped through her skull, giving her the answer. One she didn’t want. It seemed like with every step she took, she felt like something was weighing her down. As if a weight was on her back. Filled with the sudden urge to sit down, she started to pull on Deacon’s arm.

“Deacon, I-I think...I think I need to-to sit down.” She says, beginning to pant, out of breath suddenly.

“I...I do not...feel well. Can you...can you bring Uncle?” She asks, falling down to kneel on one knee, gingerly massaging her head to try to make the sick feeling go away.

Lucette’s eyes flickers open to glance at Kane before weakly smiling up at Deacon.

“Thank you, Deacon. I...really appreciate it.” She breathes out, the pain receding back enough for her to weakly stand, legs shaking. Only to feel her smile fade away when he wished her a quick recovery. She desperately wants to tell him the truth, that this was not something that could be cured. That this was a curse she is forced to live with but in obscurity and mystery for the rest of her mortal life. She does not know what it is, what she is, why she was there, why Kane always seemed so secretive whenever she asks about it, or even how she got there! Is she real or just a personification of Lucette’s fears and doubt?

But despite these questions clawing her mind to shreds, she only gives Deacon a weary smile.

“I will do my absolute best to recovery as soon as possible.”

With that, she turned her attention towards her uncle with a serious expression on her face.

“Uncle, we need to talk.”

Lucette was, unfortunately, already in a bad mood. The voice had been more and more active lately, barely giving her any time to rest, causing her to snap at people and clockworks more easily. Her uncle had sent her out to go “gain some maintenance of her mood” in her gardens, only worsening her already sour mood and now she has to deal with this malfunctioning sack of bolts and wires who has the audacity to sass her!

“How about you pry open gaping mouths you call eyeholes and watch where you’re going, babysitter?” She spat out rudely, quickly rising from her crumpled heap to stare down at the useless wind up doll.

Talia had just returned from a trip with Rooke. Kane described it as assigned missions. She knew she was just a babysitter at this point. She was ignorantly walking without looking where she was going, her focus is on her notes she had taken about her trip.

She didn’t react much when she bumped into poor Lucette in the halls of the main castle, knocking her over.

Talia moved her notes down to look down at the princess. She really hasn’t seen Lucette much apart from being stuck with her a few times in the same meetings and didn’t really care to see more of her anyway.

She was like that with everyone.

She lifted her hat and placed her notes under it before placing it back on.

Lucette could feel a small sliver of smugness creep in when she the clockwork took on its stiff stance, glad she got a physical reaction out of it. She only rolled her eyes when it called her a child as if it were an insult. As if she hadn’t heard that one ten times a day.

“Why yes, I am at the younger stage of a human’s life cycle, thank you for noticing.” She sassed in a syrup sweet tone. She raised a single eyebrow when the clockwork asked her what she was doing, a rude reply already on the tip of her tongue when the voice advised her that it would be better and quicker to just tell the clockwork so it could leave and she be left alone. In peace.

“I am going to my gardens to relax. By the order of my Uncle.” She answered with a heavy sigh, the fire in her chest burning slightly hotter than usual. She might have to cause a few controlled fires in order to settle the magic down. Or else...well, let’s say the next she gets annoyed, the palace might be a bit blacker.

Lucette’s jaw tightened as she let out a long stream of Valencian curses in her mind. Just when she thought she could find some! Is the Spiral just set against her? Reigning in her mental tantrum, she focused her attention on the clockwork now next to her and let out a sigh, her shoulders drooping. Her lips did twitch a bit when the clockwork said that she was not boring like the others. She will admit, she is curious about this particular clockwork. And clockworks, when they have decided on something, do not let it go.

“Very well. As long as you keep the talk to a minimum. I was commanded to relax and that is what I shall do. Let us be on our way.” She commanded, continuing her stroll towards the gardens in the center of the palace. The change that overcame her when she stepped onto the soft grass was relieving, a soft sigh of contentment leaving her lips as she made her way over to her favorite spot. A large patch of grass surrounded by large bushes of various carnations, a little bit of an opening allowing her to walk in without trampling her flowers. Sitting down in the middle, she gave a pointed look at the clockwork and gestured towards the spot a couple inches in front of her in invitation.

Lucette only rose a single black eyebrow when she heard the clockwork’s words, becoming intrigued when it pulled out a rusty gear brooch. Is this clockwork afraid of...death? And replacement? While it does make sense for the replacement part, fearing death is a living being trait. Clockworks weren’t supposed to be fearful of death.

“Yes, everything will eventually die and be replaced. That is inevitable. But, nature will always continue and always has a way to make new and better life from the remains of the old. A fallen tree will be a home to little nervous critters and their children. A forest fire, sad and terrifying as it is, will wipe the slate clean and give sufficient nutrients and space for the new forest to begin stronger and more beautiful. Humans came from nature and even though we try to separate ourselves form it, will return to nature in the end. We must decided if we want to go kick and screaming, shivering and weeping, or happily and peacefully.

Clockworks have a bit of an advantage over us. You will be okay and will live for many many years as long as you take care of yourselves. There are ways to clean off rusted gears, ways to replace broken wires, and ways to re-upload memories and consciousness. Us living beings don’t quite have that...yet. So yes, these plants will die and be replaced but not always by me. It will be by themselves. Just like how the eventual children I will have will replace me and hopefully be better than me. That is why this garden is so beautiful.” She explained, softly plucking a yellow carnation and stroking its soft petals gently.

“Watch where you’re going, Princess.”

Lucette nodded her head in slight agreement with the clockworks’s words. The pirate has been becoming more and more of problem each day, taking out clockworks by the day. It was concerning and worried her, that one of her family members would be next to fall under the pirate’s blade. It doesn’t help that Adrian, that annoying little rat, had teamed up with them, meaning that Edward will be with them. That idiotic, gnat-minded, naive fool!

“It is quite annoying that Rooke, the Grand Marshall, cannot detain the poor confused child. Adrian, I can understand since he is like a snake and can’t do anything except sneak around but a child? It’s irritating and I’m worried for him. Uncle is reaching the end of his patience with Rooke and, due to the fact that you are more or less in charge of watching him, with you as well.” She explained, picking out more flowers to weave into a flower crown to give her fingers something to do. Her brows furrowed in confusion when the clockwork told her about a tale of a broken clockwork.

“I assure you that the tale is false. I have been around for all the clockworks being produced and have never heard of a clockwork that used to have Snowwhite’s ability and purpose being broken and never replaced. Not only would that be incredibly wasteful which annoys Uncle, but is also very dangerous. Imagine what would happen if the pirate found that clockwork. They could reprogram it and turn it against us or retrieve information!” Lucette’s voice rose a bit at the idea of a clockwork turning against them. It was terrifying and a possibility.

The young Valencian only gave the clockwork a pointed flat stare of mild annoyance.

“Did you see the actual tale itself or something that reminds you of it? And how are you certain that you will not be forgotten?” She asked in her royal tone used in meetings or at Court. She tilted her head in curiosity when the clockwork started scribbling something on the notepad. She had noticed it earlier but never commented on it out of concern of more important things.

“And may I ask why you carry that around and under your hat of all places?”

Lucette struggled to hold back the wide grin that would have no doubt split her face in half when the clockwork talked about how long it has been around and how it has seen more than she could imagine. If only the poor thing knew what she had hidden under these pitch black curls. But Uncle told her not to even whisper of it to anyone, clockwork or no, so she shall stay quiet. Play the part of the dutiful niece and keep her secrets. For now.

“I see. Interesting. You seem to have quite a...content relationship with the Grand Marshall.” She said, stating a mere observation. If her voice sounded serpent-like, well that’s only her imagination, after all.

Talia made a motion with her head, clearly an eyeroll if she had eyes.

She stood up and walked over to a red and yellow flower and squatted down to it, staring at it.

“I’ve been around longer than you could ever imagine. I was a last minute adjustment to a simple record keeping bot.”

Talia sat down on the ground, crossinf her legs.

“I’ve seen far much and been apart of far much more than you could imagine. Far much more than any stormy any wrinkle on a old dog’s face could tell.”

Talia looked back to Lucette.

“Oh. And bots don’t have pockets. Usually.”

She paused again.

“…and Rooke taught me to.”

“Hahaha, for a clockwork that has lived longer than I, you are quite easy to rile. You jump to conclusions faster than you apologize. Think, you stumbling genius. You are a clockwork, why would I accuse you of an affair? That is quite a reach.” Lucette laughed, not in the least intimidated by the clockwork.

“But do go ahead and make me take back my words that you misinterpreted, darling clockwork. I will warn you though, I do not think Uncle will appreciate both of us disobeying his orders and I will not back down until you are neutralized or terminated. After all, you did threaten me. It is only common sense to defend myself.” She warned seriously, glaring venomously at the clockwork that towered over her. She was not afraid to melt the machine in its place if she had to but Uncle would be disappointed with her if that was her immediate action.

When the clockwork reached her hand into her shirt, Lucette immediately reacted, jumping up and going into battle position. The ever burning flame that appeared in her chest that fateful day burning hotter when, as if sensing her adrenaline and preparing itself for battle. She stood there, glaring darkly at the clockwork, raising a single eyebrow when the clockwork froze for a second and sat down on its knees. Once the clockwork spoke, she rolled her eyes and sat back down, picking back up her discarded flower crown.

“You only decided because you lacked your main weapon, do not even try to lie to me. But I will ignore your unneeded outburst and attempt to relax.” Lucette huffed, leaning back into a bush and closing her eyes, her fingers smoothly weaving the flowers as if she had done it all her life. Which she has. Her eye twitched when she heard the clockwork mumble but decided to ignore it.
