Alfyn's deep angst in what could have been. Alfyn devouring raw potatoes in bitten, the first time he transformed.

14- I hear you! I love vampires and werewolves but not necessarily all the tropes fandoms tend to loop them into. So I set out writing Bloodbound to be the kind of vampire romance I wanted to see!

ah, this one was an alt-timeline for Bloodbound :0 The premise was that Alfyn and Therion both died, but Craving (the demon bound to Therion) remained and now had control of Therion's body. Cyrus steps in as caretaker. I didn't get very far with this one and it was going to be a series of one-shots done in conjunction with a friend but things fell through and I haven't heard from the friend in a while.

colby i need your help i keep baking challahs and they keep coming out flat. what am i doing wrong

There can be a number of issues at play here. The main one I can think of is if the yeast gets killed thus preventing the dough from rising. It could be underworked. I can grab a recipe in the morning with step by step instructions from my old textbook. Sometimes people just have bad luck with certain recipes (looks at one of my aunts).

Things that kill yeast: water too hot. Salt too close.

If too cold the yeast will be slow to activate. They sleepy. (You can put dough in the fridge to slow fermentation. This is the opposite of putting it in a proofer, which is warm and humid)

The gist of it was that Therion overheard dome dockworkers talking in the tavern abt how some fishermen caught a merman, and then proceeded to describe the one he saw in a dream(?) six years ago after his betrayal. And he thought about how the memories were fuzzy but his face and the desperation of the merman's lips on his were seared into his mind, and how he still spent a lot of time staring at the ocean in spite of everything. He didn't know what he expected, to see the merman, to see Darius with only just enough life left in him to beg for forgiveness, something else, who knows. But he still likes the sea. It's calming, thr sand is nice, he likes watching the hermit crabs scuttling around. Sometimes he swears he sees a flash of green iridescent scales behind the rocks but when he goes to investigate there's nothing there. Anyway the dock worker's friend thinks he's full of shit but Therion can't help himself and goes to investigate. And wouldn't you know it, there in the warehouse where all the fishermen's catches are brought is that same merman from six years ago, unconscious and tangled in fishing net.

Aaaaah this has me rotating ideas (along with the tags you left on my sketches) and just

Time to steal a merman. Rescue mission.

I loooove the idea of Alfyn finding this deactivated, beat-up android of a pretty unusual model and bringing them back to his shop in Clearbrook and painstakingly cleaning the leaked battery and replacing broken and waterlogged circuits to the point where he can even activate. Idk the other details (why was Therion turned off? Is this bc of Darius? How long was Therion out?) But. I'm a sucker for a good human/android dynamic

Oh I love the sound of this... if it was Darius then the last thing he would remember would be the betrayal... what if Darius found and restored him first just to use him until, well, he had too much a mind of his own and outlived his usefulness...

Then he's worried that Alfyn might do the same and Alfyn has to build up trust with him while also trying to keep him functional...

Anyway. For ur consideration. Alfyn accidently confessing when he says 'I love you' during sex. Therion probably rolls with it until it's done when he teases Alf about it but uh. He's very embarrassed. More embarrassed than someone who just Says Shit during sex would be. Or maybe he stops everything right when it happens, not on purpose it just shocks him so much he's like 'what'

Either way he's ultimately not like. Against it. Just surprised (and maybe a little guilty, feeling like he tricked Alfyn into having real feelings for him somehow).

Oh man depending on other factors I can also see Therion like... not taking it seriously/being in denial over it as well. (It has been a long time since he's been shown love/care- the emotional whiplash of expecting abuse and getting kindness instead is real. Platonicly or Romantically.) And like you say, it's not that he's against it! It's just unexpected.

Meanwhile once the dam breaks and the confession is out there and accepted I can see Alfyn saying 'I love you' a LOT. He's very affectionate- though it could be a bit overwhelming for Therion early on since he's not used to that sort of attention.

At any rate I am Rotating Thoughts of Them. Gosh could you imagine it not even being the first time Alfyn has confessed- like he's done so a dozen times over while drunk and Therion never took it seriously (and then Therion just doesn't call attention to it and it's up in the air if Alfyn remembers or not)

i think one of the big things i still need to figure out for this au is 'does magic still exist, and if it does, how is it currently understood, if at all'. like i LOVE a good Modern Magic setting but. to what degree are we talkin here. is it just people slinging fireballs? are entire cities powered by magic? what about clerics? are they involved in the healthcare system? are they the same religious people we knew in the 1600s, or is that just the word for 'person who has healing magic' now?

Oh that is a tricky one- if magic exists and to what degree. Personally I like the idea of magitech (I believe you mentioned Therion having a soulstone battery?). Magic existing and being augmented by human ingenuity. The scope of how religious institutions mingle with things like Healthcare in this context is interesting. Because like, if faith is a factor in healing magics then there can be a basis for churches to double as clinics. But there are things magic can't fix, which is why there are apothecaries and the rest of the Healthcare system. (Aside from cost differences and church biases for treatment also developing a need for nonmagical aid)

I'm rambling. The level of magic is ultimately up to you, of course. There's also a question of what practices and spells have been lost to time. That said the idea that some people can just, muster a little flame to light a cigarette or something is amusing. (Use of intense fire spells to clear snow from your driveway is still frowned upon. Besides it refreezes to ice and then things are worse.)

btw im probably gonna cut it for time in this chapter but. consider. alfyn is feeling like hot shit after his chapter 3 and in a reversal of the trope where alfyn likes to drape his mantle over therion when he takes a nap or has a bad dream. therion is like 'yknow what fuck it' and drapes his own shawl over alfyn while he sleeps. will it do anything?? hell if he knows (yes) but for the first time since this whole thing started it feels like hes actually done something for alfyn. and thats good enough for him

Considering. Crying. Hell yes, this is so sweet. Therion absolutely would, he's kind at heart he just isn't always sure how to show it (or if he safely can).

for the longest time ive had an hc that postgame alfyn and therion accidentally adopt a cat (broke into their house and therion was like 'we cant keep it' and then did) and then they name her linde. and then one day h'aanit visits with big linde. and therion is embarrassed but h'aanit thinks its hilarious

XD yes, headcanon accepted.

I like to think of Therion as the sort to easily bond with stray cats. He is the sort to feed a feral colony. And with a stable home? Totally bring home a stray or two.
